And ppl still think yg isn't talent prison
So many people. CL, the rest of SU Pearl's, so sketchy. And YG has all the resources
@@godslittlecrayola I know. They deliberately go out of the way to not let these artists shine
it’s wild because in general most kpoppies know of YGs Dungeon. it’s sickening honestly
@@kamaniaray yeah
Why do they keep doing this?
When Remember dropped I was blown away. Now it's been 5 years and she has less than 30 tracks. I didn't even know about her background or how long it took to even debut. YG's policy of just not bothering to promote their artists or give them comebacks is so harmful ISTG
I remember hearing about her, listening to her music and thinking she had potential, and then never hearing of or thinking about her again until now. YG really really sucks at promoting their artists.
Yeah they even suck at promoting treasure
I know it's an old clip but when Jennie says "I'd do 10 more songs if I had any", I die every time lmao.
Ive never heard of Katie, but one thing I lnow is if she picked JYP back in 2014 after K-Pop Star, her career would have likely been very different. Maybe she would have been in Sixteen to audition for Twice or made the Itzy roster or even debuted solo in English since JYP was really focused on doing that around that time (like Wonder Girls touring with Jonas Brothers era). I'm glad she's able to do what she loves now, and shame on YG for sleeping on her.
I would hope so, but it's hard to say. Park Jimin was left in the "JYP dungeon". I think the companies judge along the way, whether they believe their artists are profitable and whether or not to let them promote. Soo soo sadd :(
@@danawang780 jyp dont like soloists. lily performed as a soloist in trainee showcases so people expected her to go solo instead of debuting as a group but it makes sense.
Honestly I think the best option for her would've been Antenna. Definitely not a Big 3 company, but their soloists have staying power and aren't neglected.
'remember' still hits to this very day. yg always just fucks over so many talented artists
i could seriously see her as an artist under aomg or 88rising
YG did Katie soooooo dirty! Her music is amazing, I love her voice so sultry, my ears melt every time I listen to her ❤
YG has screwed over a lot of K-pop Star contestants. I always thought it was weird that it wasn't a "guaranteed debut" when you won the show, I guess the prize was just to train at the company along with whatever sponsors that season had.
And Mix Nine
@@gwenmloveskpopandmore Yes!!!!
Jyp seemed so genuinely interested in her and might have been more willing to work with her on maybe negotiating bilingual albums just so the Korean public kept interest in her too. It's all what ifs at this point though
i genuinely don’t know why ppl even sign to yg atp💀 even if u make it to debut they’re just gonna lock u in the dungeon and you’ll barely be heard of again. i mean even blackpink who’s their most popular group right now barely gets comebacks, we just got an album after 2 whole years💀 the appeal of that company especially nowadays knowing how they rarely even promote their artists baffles me tbh
Trainees want to debut any way they can, and the YG name still has value. Same reason some go to Cube, or why BlockBerry is still working on their next group, or why Fantiago still exists.
I guess because big 3 privilege at least they WILL be famous if they ever debut
She quit YG herself because he took too long to debut her isnt it? Know this, he only debut people that he knows are ready. She wasnt. Clearly so since she didnt do so well outside YG
How did I forgot about her? I was so obsessed like damn her voice is like hearing an angel. LOG was so gooooood. Thank you for reminding us of this talented artist !!!
I would love it if she did a colaboration with Jamie or Heize, it would be so sweet for our ears
Just YG being YG 😮💨
omg i loved katie, cant wait to watch!
I friggin love her!!! She's so talented and I love her music so much! YG has been doing their artist dirty so Katie being newer to the company, they just screwed her over completely. I wish she would have been able to release more music and showed more of her talent.
If you love to sing and create music, YG isn’t for you.
And also, if Baby monster turns out to be successful, do not audition for YG because the next time they’ll debut a new gg is after 7 years…
I like your name 😎
Katie is such a gem. Thank you for this video
I remember loving her music when it first came out, such a shame thag YG fails so many of their artists
I really hate how YG stalls and keeps their artists back, like whyyyyyy??? they are not getting younger, music industry is changing quickly, and fans move on to other artists quickly, so they get forgotten. they are waisting their time with YG for absolutely no reason and no fault of their own! madness! plus YG is losing talent and money by not promoting and making comebacks for their artists. maybe YG is just lazy? otherwise what’s the point?
our time is blue was one of my favorite albums of 2020/2021 I am praying she starts releasing a lot of music again 😭
I remember Lee Michelle and SuPearls story. YG is where talent goes to die
And Maydoni (her debut song was awesome but then she went to yg's dungeon)
Anda as well I thought ow okay after touch I expected something like that but she was locked in YG's dungeo
Do one on the way JYPE ruined Jamie Park's career too 😔 and how they squandered 15&'s potential!
Have you ever considered doing a video on NRG? My sister (who actually isn’t a kpop fan) was telling me a bit about the groups history back in the 90s and it seemed right up your alley since you cover a lot of first gen groups 💜
Katie still has so much potential. Still streaming her to this day. Look in to Blue.D as well. Both from YG with so much potential and underrated with incredible voices
I think I've only heard of Katie in Bobby's album love and fall. YG really sucks in promoting their artists
Thank you for introducing me to this artist I love her sound!!!
Reasons why YG entertainment won't let black pink leave cause once they go yg will lose popularity
Omg thank you for making this video I love Katie so much 😢
I’m do glad I found Katie’s music on YT a few months ago. Was searching for more R&B type singers like her to include with my Sarah Kang and Yerin Baek songs, so I could stream a longer list of chill music❣️
Never heard of her , but the way Yg treating her was horrible
she gives 88rising vibes fs
Oh my god I am literally so happy Katie’s situation is being talked about
Yes, I've been following her since her debut! I love her music so much, both the Log and Our Time is Blue EPs are on my daily playlists :) But I didn't know in depth about her background in the industry, thank you for the video
Well detailed explanation and Video on a very talented young woman who had a potential to be a successful Artist and Singer but unfortunately YG Entertainment didn’t let her debut hopefully Katie is enjoying a healthy happy Life
Now I'm going to look into Katie's Smooth, Soulful Music thanks to you Midnight 😊 this is another awesome video
and learning more and more thanks to your RAD Channel 😎❤️
Thank you for introducing me to this talented artist. Vary informative.
I'm subscribing
Thank you for recommending new artist to my playlist. I knew Lee Hi and was glad to know that she left YG.
Oh man, this is brand new to me. I gotta watch this.
I can't help feeling she sabotaged her own career - she breaks through on a kpop tv show, signs with one of the biggest kpop labels and then decides she doesn't want to be a kpop star. That said, the music she releases is pure class. Another great video from MT too.
I remembered hearing about Katie from K-pop Star, but I didn’t really follow her so I was ecstatic when I saw her release Remember because it reminded me she existed. I went looking for more songs and was very disappointed there was nothing else.
Katie is one of those artists I remember about every few months and get so disappointed there’s barely any music out from her. I will forever be resentful to YG for locking her up in the dungeon and I hope she will continue to release more soon.
I literally was watching her on get real and suddenly remember her song remember. That was song .😢 I had to go back and listen to that song.
She was honestly my favorite, all her songs are one repeat on my pintewst
I always love your videos I heard about you from ploopy and I have been watching from a but now it's really good
My sister actually put me on Katie and honestly I’m happy she did! Her music is soooo good! It sucks that YG couldn’t see her potential and talent .
I’ve been following Katie’s career ever since “Remember” and I absolutely LOVE her discography. I wish she was better promoted, so that more people would listen to her music as well 💔
PS: Been really enjoying your new video schedule, but make sure you also relax so you don’t burn out ❤
she's one of my fav artists and always thought YG did her so dirty. i'm glad this is shown some light.
I did not realize that this is the SAME Katie that I have been downloading songs from. I had NO idea she was Korean, nor did I realize that she was on Kpop Star. This was awesome and I love her even more realizing her struggle to debut
pls if you ever heard her talk, even in english (i first heard of her on dive studio's get real podcast) and she's so sweet 😭💕 and her voice is so cute too
2:34 I think you meant to say "YG opts to not do anything with them"
I love Katie so much she deserves so much better
I have heard of Katie but haven’t really delved into her music (which thanks to this video I just might). YG is great for finding talent and recruiting but the longevity of it becomes a problem. Like how do you fumble a bag like Katie??
It sucks that wanna-be/ idols KNOW that YGE is more than likely to fuck them over with next to no content yet many still join that company.
I know a few of her songs and absolutely love them too bad to see this happen
that infamous jennie live where she talks about the lack of comeback still hurts my feelings till this day
Oh you have no idea how happy I am that there’s someone remembers she even existed! I haven’t heard anything from her in so long.
I really love katie kim ... I love her voice and music. .. 😢
Also Blue.D Only had a short time on YG. Could never understand why.
She join the wrong competition 🙄🙄 She should have join american idol or america got talent. maybe yg doesnt see her as a money magnet if she only wants to sing english in korean music industry. oh well at least she is releasing her music just like what she wants and thats all that matters.
Yeah I agree if she doesn't like k pop or singing in korean she shouldn't have joined a korean music show
featuring male artists, especially k hip hop, is a liability not an advantage. it’s only a matter of time before they’re accused of a crime. they almost sabotaged her debut
So why did she audition for "KPOP star" if she didn't want to be associated with kpop..
I don't think it was that, more that with ygs background they expect yg to let them be more creative and individual, but yg has been becoming more just like any other company with a hyperfocus on traditional idols and a very set plan for them.
@@ND-kh5yw yeah I get it but even groups with musical freedom like big bang, winner, & ikon fell under the category of "kpop", and there's nothing wrong with that. They didn't mind because they just loved making music but she just wanted nothing to do with that term. From this video it seems that she didn't even want to give it a chance.
I think they just couldn't work it out, Katie wanted to release songs in english, yg was probably thinking that Koreans wouldn't be fans of that. They should've been able to compromise on a full bilingual discography, like her first release being in Korean then shortly after releasing the English version, and continuing on doing songs in either English Korean or both. Not to mention they shouldn't have made it about her visuals at all and only focused on encouraging her to be her best self in every sense but her talent was why she was popular.
YG really needs to try harder. They're still one of two main companies who have the ability to massively appeal to western and eastern tastes simultaneously, Katie could've been a great example of this but instead is an example of yg faltering yet again
I've never heard of her before but the second you showed the K-PopStar clip and said she chose YG, I already knew this was gonna be bad! JYP 1st, Antenna 2nd, YG never! If she had chosen either of the other 2, this would be a whole different story and the world would know her name. I will support her going forward, some of the songs you highlighted seem good, I wanna know more. Yay Katie!
Yo i used to listen to her all the time where is she now
YG have no heart!! The whole company is so sketchy & would've sunk long ago without Bp still carrying them even into 2023
Heart will know make them money
@@sukiChopz agreed neither will being heartless. As fans can boycott. Fans are the money after all.
I don't know much about KATIE but she deserves better
I feel like what she wanted to do didn’t cross paths with what yg is known for and they weren’t eager to experiment sadly cuz genuinely having an artist like this could’ve opened new doors for yg not just “the cool yg style “ they could’ve added some debth to their reputation cuz it’s an area they’re missing and being criticized for over and over again , they seem a bit too strict and afraid to try new things , she was the perfect opportunity to open their eyes but they didn’t , however I’m glad she was able to debut and release her music in such great quality
I didn’t even know who she was
I have an idea for you. How about covering the career of Swi-T. No one really talks about them.
my god, even i forgot she existed. yg really needs a better strategy to promote their artists
I’ve been the biggest fan of KATIE ever since she popped up on spotify but I never knew she was from YG?!??
Everyone should know by now better not to join the gym dungeon
I bet it's bc she doesn't look doll-like enough
Lily isn't conventionally attractive either but she is still known, I don't think it's that.
@@_my_insomnia_blink562but she was never in yg right?
@@_my_insomnia_blink562 we're talking abt artist YG artist here
And YG is mysogynist anw, female artist never treated right there
I didnt even know she was under YG, damn
Remember is still one of my fav tracker ever. What a waste. :(
I love Katie sm yg did her so dirty
Did the video not end fully?
Who's Katie🥸
She should release songs that complimented her
Style before she went on kpop star! She sang jazz and the blues! Not rnb! Thats way too main stream
And she got lost in a sea of great artists!
how is yg still a company
Because their biggest money maker makes millions and millions for them monthly.
@@jayr7781 oh yeah i forgot the pinks are the only thing keeping them afloat
the besrt thing she ever did
She sabotaged her own career by being "too good" & looking down on Kpop. She's trying to be big in Korea after rejecting Korea for the US. I hope S.Koreans see right through her. She looks down on SK or she would have initially embraced them.
And how did you come to this conclusion?? Spreading hate and misinformation for no reason.
im not south korean, but i agree. i dont think her winning a kpop competition (literally called KPOP star), and then rejecting kpop as an industry, really helped her career.
I'm not sure about 'looking down on Koreans'. So what about the big Korean groups that are now releasing fully English songs to appeal to non-Korean fans. It's ok for them to branch out to different audiences, sounds and genres, but she was wrong for wanting the same thing?
God damn, she was better off being an independent artist. They screwed her over BIG TIME
