I want to see someone do a video of Paul and Gene responding to each song on the album. I don't think they have a clue how special some of these songs are, because they're so blinded by their own remembered experiences.
but WHEN did you first hear it? I'm guessing, you didn't hear it the first time during that era. I MAY have liked it if I hadn't heard it during that specific era, idk. But to this day, I don't like it. It's easier to listen to now, but it's still a 2/ 10 stars
No matter what Gene and Paul say, this album is top 3 in Kiss' discography. It is a timeless masterpiece. Thank you Kiss, for everything and for music from the elder!!
Nobody hurt the sales of this great album more than these two over the years bad mouthing it every chance they got. It's one of their best moments as musicians for sure.
@@jaredandmandimorris4420 The Elder is a ten times better album than Sonic Boom or Monster. There's two albums they should be warning their fans about, both complete garbage.
I love this album. It is the first one for Eric and he did a great job. But the responsability for its failure is only Gene and Paul's. They, along with Bob insisted on doing it. Ace wanted to go back to the origins of the Band, but he was out-voted.
For some reason Bob Ezrin, Paul and Gene decided that Eric wasn't the right fit for all of the songs and brought in Allan Schwartzberg to play on Odyssey and I. I can't imagine a scenario where Eric couldn't absolutely smoke I. I'm really glad that they allowed him to be such a central part of the Creatures of the Night album.
The Elder is a great album, it was way ahead of its time. It's disappointing that Gene and Paul never got it the props it deserves. They bash it every chance they get and it's unfortunate. They should stand by its brilliance and say, maybe it wasn't what the critics expected at the time, but we put a lot of hard work into it, and we're proud that people still have it in their collection. I listen to it and I think it's a brilliant album regardless of whether it was the right album for the time it was released.
@@ingleringlet-snipps3rd449Not me but I got the impression the majority of those fans jumped ship after "I Was Made" - KISS was only saved by new fans coming onboard, ironically, by the same song...
I'm my hometown in the UK, there was a bunch of us Kiss fans. Our own little Army! Everyone loved this album. I can't listen to most of their stuff these days, just tired of it. But I can always listen to The Elder.
My favorite front to back album ever. Never not listen to the whole album in its entirety. It’s very heavy. The orchestra pieces add to it and its heaviness. Every song kicks ass.
I totally agree with you about listening to the album right thru. I would never play this just to hear a particular song, I treat it as an audible story even though I still haven't figured it out lol.
The Elder was my 2nd kiss lp. got it for christmas. 3 times. lol each family member got me a copy without knowing. so I still have my first copy on LP.,. CASS.,. 8-TRACK Tape.
I'm not a big KISS fan, though I understand their appeal and respect their success. I also like it when a rock band is inspired to do something out of their realm. Be it classical, or jazz, or experimental, the results may not be authentic, but they're often interesting. Upon listening to The Elder, I get the impression that they were going for something grandiose, but just didn't quite give it their all. And when you shoot for epically pompous and fall short, it's especially embarrassing. I know they'd never try something like that again, but I do wonder had they revamped some of that material and gave it another shot it might have a very different , and satisfying, result.
Sonic Boom was an attempt to recreate the past. Get all the band members to sing a song, just like back in the day. Sorry, sequels rarely better the first attempt
I agree that Music from The Elder was a beautiful album and listening to the songs off of RUclips caused me to go out and buy the remaster off of amazon. I just wish we got a movie to complement the album it would have been nice.

I actually like this album and thought it would have been better had been combined with Creatures. That would have made the concept better.songs like War Machine, Creatures, Danger and Killer would have fit in well with the Fantasy Concept of the Elder
Kiss Army is a hoax. I sent in the registration application for the Kiss Army from the Destroyer album, I believe when I was twelve years old. But I never heard from them again, and neither did my best friend. It was a hard blow for such loyal fans as we were, who even snuck away from home and risked our lives just to see them live at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, Sweden, back in 1976. I remember watching most of the concert with a great view, stuck in the crowd, and at no point did my feet touch the ground. The only painful part of the concert was the insane volume of the treble during Ace Frehley's solo.
That mentality was responsible for them playing the same 20/25 same songs for the last 30 years. This album is genius. Great music, dark and a refreshing and well needed change from dynasty and unmasked (which I love but was time for a chaging).
I bought this album when it was released. Oddly, I knew nothing about it, it was just in some small record store. No promotion or news about it. I loved most of it. Some great stuff on it.
Kiss fan for 25 years. Favorite band hands down. The Elder IS my FAVORITE Kiss album Maybe Mr Blackwell and perhaps Dark light you can keep, but the rest is an absolute masterpiece. How can they not see this????
It's kind of funny how the Elder album has grown on and has come to be appreciated by many, many, many "old school" KISS fans over the years. Yet it has not grown on or become to be appreciated by the band (Paul, Gene, & Ace) that released it
I believe the Elder was recorded in Ace Frehley's home studio. One thing I hated about this album was the mix. The guitars sounded like they were coming through an AM radio sitting at the bottom of a dried up well. If they remixed this album like they did with Destroyer, it would be more appreciated.
Pails says we all just jumped on the ship to do the Elder. Ace sure didn't jump on that ship, he didn’t want to do it but got out voted by Gene and Paul. Ace wanted to do a hard rock album and told them doing The Elder was a mistake. I like the album and I'm glad they have it in their catalog.
Yeah, I agree it's one of the best lyrically (maybe due to Lou Reed?), and I love the melancholy guitar solo. I wish the song had another verse though - it's so short. Better than being too long at least.

You know, it’s sad to hear how Gene and Paul dislike this album so much. So many fans, including me, love this album and think it is brilliant.

@@Lanisteelerocks I love his drumming all throughout it. Eric was such an asset to the band. He was their Bonham, their Ringo, their Nick Mason.
Eric Carr is over rated because he's dead. Heavy hitter? Sure, but he butchered so many songs. He also tended to play the same fills in many songs

Not one of the best kiss albums. Not even close.
If I had to choose between Metallica's LuLu or The Elder, I'd DEFINITELY pick The Elder. Much more listenable. For me, at least.
