- I discuss why most people actually shoot worse after dry firing.
The Dry Fire Mag and Mantis X Elite Shooting Performance System can dramatically help you improve shooting performance and save you a lot of money and wasted rounds. Both also give you the ability to train regularly and sustain shooting skills without having to drag your gear to the range.

While an older video, you literally hit all the bases from an information perspective and it literally pushed me over the cliff on FINALLY pulling the trigger on picking up a Mantis (picked up both the Blackbeard and the X10) and a DryFireMag. The reset on the pistol front, which the DryFireMag addresses is what kept me from picking up a Mantis alone. Together, they create the "perfect" dry fire experience. Thanks!
Found your video while searching for something on how well these two worked together. Thanks for making it
Glad you found us. Thanks for watching!
-Gary
Just got this combo and your video really helped with the settings and setup thanks
Just ordered the Mantis X and am on the wait list for the spring DFM, what a great combination. Anything to improve my trigger manipulation and pistol skills WITHOUT expending valuable ammunition. Can't wait to train with both. Great video...
Our order of DFM with spring kits are on their way. You'll have the first one John.
This was very helpful. I learned the main reason why my aim was off. Thank you so much!
Broooooo! Ive had the dfm for a couple of weeks now and was upset it didnt work with the mantis... I had no idea there was a setting I needed to switch. Thankyou! Gonna be dry firing for the next hour!
This video put the final nail in the coffin for me. I am definitely picking one of these up.
Thank you for the video. I was trying to figure out if i could use the 2. 👍🏼
Got the Mantis X Elite System from Paramount Tactical yesterday and set I up today. I already had the Dry Fire Mag. Wow, this system is great! I can certainly see how it is going to help my shooting. After firing over 100 "rounds" dry today, The systems will probably pay itself by Saturday!! One thing that took me a minute to figure out was I had to remove the base plate on the Dry Fire Mag due to the Floyd's Custom Magwell that I have on my M&P 2.0. It works great and I think I will be able to put a Floyd's Custom baseplate on the Dry Fire Mag so I can practice reloads. Thanks for the video and information!!
Nice, John! Glad you like it
Thank you for doing this video! I've been looking at the Mantis for a while and wondering which one to get. I did not know about the dry fire mags, I'm definitely going to pick up one of those also.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you found it informative. Theres a discount code for both in the description. Hopefully you subscribed and I hope to see you in the comments often! -Gary
Just found this video and your channel and subbed! Best video on the subject and those 2 products I’ve seen. I was all onboard and excited about the dry fire mag until I went to their website and realized how limited the gun options were. Basically shocks and full size M&P’s for the most part. I did submit a request for expanded options so we will see if that gets anywhere but the Shield Plus should be there. Anyway, great video!
I just got the mantis x10 elite to do just that. I have had the dry fire mag for my glock19 g5 for awhile but thought it would pair well with the mantis. Wasn’t even looking for this video just stumbled across it. I guess I’m not the only one that thought of this. Thanks for the reassurance
Glad you found us and thanks for watching! Join us for our live podcasts on Wednesdays at 7pm ET. Thanks, Gary
This is the best dry fire video I’ve found to date. Still trying to figure out the best product and configuration and this answered my question. First time I’ve seen this guy and I like his premise. Instant follow
Thanks. I’m glad you found us. Make sure to join us every Wednesday for our live Dangerous Liberty podcast!

I had he same thoughts.Great video
My dry fire mag came in yesterday for my Glock 23, I was very surprised how well made it is very solid, not some cheaply made piece of plastic, also came with one extra spring, waiting on the Mantis 10x. I’ll give the dry fire mag a big thumbs up.
Excellent and very helpful thanks
great video! thank you for the info!
I love my mantis blackbeard I use a airsoft a lot to practice with pistols if not the range I'll have to check this out tho
I had wondered if Mantis would work with a dry fire mag. Thanks so much!
It does and it works perfectly. Just make sure you follow the settings instructions in the video.
I keep getting flamed on here by non instruction following mofos “IT DOESNT WORK!”
Then they get the settings right and it’s good to go. Life is harder when you only do 50% of things correct.🤷♂️
Thanks for watching!
-Gary
Very good video, I’m going to purchase both for my Glock 23
Just ordered the Mantis X Elite and the Dry Fire Mag from you. What a nice step up it should be from the Mantis Laser Academy I have now. Nice device but only works for dry fire and I have to constantly rack the slide. Thank you for the discount! From your Pennsylvanian neighbor.
Well thank you! We appreciate the business very much. You should come do some training with us soon. We’d love to have you out! -Gary
@@paramounttactical Thank you. definitely would love to go there to train.
Thank you so much for your video. It was just what I was looking for. Being able to train without racking each time. Will be watching more of your informative videos. Will this Dry Fire Mag fit a Glock 42? Great work!
This is the way to do it. I hate the idea of training scars by racking the slide after each dry fire "shot".
I have the standard Dryfire mag, I use it with my Glock and a red dot, works great.
I literally just got the Mantis X today and was thinking this. I'm going to look at all the different ones and make a decision, I have this at the top of my list. This is a great video. Thanks!
Awesome video
Thanks!
That’s some good shootin there Tex
Answered my question perfectly
That’s what we’re here for! 👊🇺🇸
Thanks for watching!

Cool. Nice to hear “Squeeze The Trigger”.
You won’t Ever hear me say “Pre_ _ The Trigger”.
That Mantis is nice, I just can’t get myself to buy one yet. I wouldn’t mind winning one.
Great video. 👍🏻
Lol, I resist the game of semantics and jargon. Press, squeeze, pull, tickle... Whatever it takes to effectively communicate. Certain words make it click for some people. I try not get entrenched in vernacular but I do still cringe at “clip” when referencing a magazine 😂 thanks for watching and glad to the ladies represented! -Gary
@@paramounttactical 😁
I have the Mantis X10 Elite, and the only complaint I have. It doesn't fit well on all Pic rails. In fact it is extremely tight on the ones that it does fit. If they ever get that fixed, it will be a perfect training device.
I order both just now . thank you !
Awesome! Hopefully you ordered from us!
Thanks for watching!

Great info.
Thanks and thanks for watching! -Gary
Thanks, great video on dry fire practice which I really need to do. Unfortunately, Dry Fire Mag doesn't make a mage for the Sig 365Xl. But in the meantime, I'm going to buy the Mantis X10 Elite for starters. Does anyone know if there is a dryfire mag or a way to use a mag with the same weight it would be if loaded with live rounds? So that you can safely train at home.
Love the idea, but doesn't appear to be available for Walther PPQ or PDP. IIRC, both can take the same mags.
Hey man great video!!! I’m from Brazil 🇧🇷
Lucas! Glad you enjoyed and love that you’re tuning in from Brazil! Join us live for a Free For All Friday sometime at 7pm EST. I look forward to seeing you in the comments often! -Gary
Finally, a viable training combo.
Cool system. Too bad it isn't available for the Shield Plus.
Can you also combine this with a C02 recoil simulation kit?
Any suggestions for a dry fire mag for a Sig P365XL. I already own the Mantis X10 Elite
I just purchased both items from Amazon, for my Glock and my sons S&W M&P, my next comment will be if it helped me get better, and I’m sure it will if i do things right, because I load my own ammo and it’s still costly.
Well, I’m glad you purchased and hope they help but would have loved if you had purchased from us. Keep us in mind next time you need any firearms or accessories. We’re a small veteran/family owned and staffed business that would greatly appreciate your business. Thanks, Gary
DFM really needs to expand their products for more firearms
hey great explanation.
i have glock 43x and i want to buy.
where can i buy from shipping to israel ?
Can you use this in combination with a laser bullet?
Great video! Just ordered both the dry fire mag and the X10 Elite!
Awesome! Hopefully you ordered from us. If not, next time you need something checkout paramounttactical.com

Great t-shirt
How does Dry Fire Mag compare to the CoolFire trainer?
Where do you purchase the resetting clips saw the ar15 one on the Matias web site but not finding any other apparently I’m missing something?
Too bad it's not available for my EDC, P365. I've owned the Mantis X10 Elite and the laser bullet for 3 years? The Dry Fire Mag with laser for the P365 would be a game changer for me.
Can you put the Mantis on the DRYFIREMAG itself, so it's an all in one system?
Is the Dry Fire Mag weighted like a full mag?
Will the dry fire mag work with the S&W Equalizer? It"s an internal hammer gun not a striker fire.
Yes. Hope that helps.
-Gary
I’d like to get the Mantis but I’m hung up on the fact it won’t fit in my holster. Have you used it on the bottom of the mag? Is there an adapter for the mantis to go on the dry fire mag? Otherwise I was considering getting a holster that is set up for a weapon light. Concealed carry draw practice would be my primary use for this .
Yes there’s a universal picatinny adaptor you can stick to the bottom of you mag that comes the mantis x
But that trigger squeeze looks like it’s a fraction of the weight of the stock trigger so isn’t that counterintuitive?
Can you talk more about the flat trigger?
This one is an Apex but I now put flat triggers in all my pistols and ARs. You’d be surprised how much they improve your trigger pull. A flat trigger will always feel lighter than a curved trigger of the same weight due to leverage. A curved trigger, you’re pulling behind the axis. Once you use and get used to a flat trigger, you’ll hate curved ones.
I took your advice and bought the dryfiremag to use it with my Mantis X2. For me, they don't work well together. There are settings you can change in the Mantis X app to detect the dfm trigger pulls, but it's not 100%. Some shots don't get picked up, some single trigger pulls register 2 shots. As for the dfm itself, the trigger is as close to realistic as possible, but it doesn't have the proper feedback a real trigger would provide. At the end of the day, I find it a more realistic shooting experience to just rack the slide after each shot when using the Mantis X. Just hold the trigger down, rack the side and reset. Maybe use the dfm on occasion to practice rapid trigger pulls, but I wouldn't try to use it with a Mantis X. It feels artificial and is nothing like a real shooting experience imo.
Did you change the mantis dry fire setting to SIRT? I get this message all the time and this is always the issue. Once this setting is correct you’ll get 98%+ of your trigger pulls to register correctly.
@@paramounttacticalYes. Then the issue was it wouldn't detect any shots that were fired a bit fast. I just don't know if I can trust that data. Even if the data is good, trigger pulls just don't have a crisp break and impact like a real trigger does. I may be getting awesome scores but I'm not feeling it. Feels fake.
@icantaim4sht836 there may be an issue with your mantis. Mine and many clients that purchased RARELY miss a shot. Mantis can also be used for live fire.
With that said, yes, the DFM doesn’t feel the exact same but I think you’re missing the point. Part of what it does is train your finger and brain to not slap the trigger. It’s the mechanics you’re training. Not unlike sone of the golf swing trainer clubs that look nothing like a golf club. I’m sure those feel different and feel “fake” but they help you perfect and ingrain perfect mechanics. If you use the mantis and dry fire mag regularly, regardless of how it feels, your shooting will improve. That’s undeniable.
Thanks,
Gary
@paramounttactical Well this will definitely help beginners I'm sure. I don't think it does much for advanced shooters. It feels like one of those dog trainer clickers and it completely takes me out of it. After the whole "gov't wants to take our guns" phase when ammo got expensive I did nothing but old fashioned dry fire with a dummy round and I was still qualifying at the range with perfect or near perfect scores (we had to shoot every 6 months for my job). I never once developed a habit of slapping the trigger or racking the slide after each shot. As long as you are consciously aware that racking the slide after each shot is for dry fire only and you practice good trigger resets (not letting off the trigger while racking the slide), I think it's fine. The Mantis X2 definitely helps even advanced shooters. It takes out all the guessing and you know exactly where the round went, what your hands were doing, which helps to build confidence and speed. I tried lasers with a coolfire trainer for a while, which felt great in the hand but the laser can be finicky and often not triggering at the right moment or they're not zeroed in. Really I should have gotten the X10 to use with that since that accommodates live fire.
Is there one that is compatible with mantis laser academy? These all seem to say not compatible with laser cartridges. :(
Amazon has the dry fire mag red laser combo
Mr. Melton
Does the MantisX training system be set up to go room to room in a home defense scenario?
Yes, absolutely you can. You can use it live fire or dry fire as well.
Does this mag damage any ig the guns internals with continuous dry fire without the striker fully resetting?
I’m curious.. how does it gauge the score? Like what is it based on? I don’t understand that .. how does it zero itself ??
It detects movement. Doesn’t need to be zeroed. I can tell when you’re aiming, pulling the trigger and then breaking the trigger. It senses, tracks, and records even the tiniest of movement throughout the process.
I wish there was a laser I could practice drawing from holster as well
You can practice drawing from a holster both live fire and dry fire. You don’t want a visible laser. Especially if you’re using iron sights. The biggest problem we have with students on the range is target focus, or a LACK of front sight focus. If you want to make it where your shoot much worse and ingrain a really bad habit, use a visible laser. This system really dies have everything you need to train effective dry and live.
Thanks for watching!
-Gary
Can you mount the Mantis X10 on the bottom of the DryFireMag or no?
I do not believe so. Thanks for watching.
I can't get my new DryFire Mag to register every trigger pull with my MantisX in Shot Timer or Par Timer and I have it in SIRT mode. Any advice? Glock 45 9mm
Change the delay. I think I had to set mine to like .7 secs or something.
@@paramounttactical I'll try it thanks!
Is there a dry mag for AR-15? I’m new to this lol just purchased a dark storm variant 1 so would like to practice with this thanks in advance
No, not that I’m aware of. If I come across anything, I’ll be sure to post about it. Thanks for watching! -Gary
Check out the Mantis Blackbeard
Hey sir: can the dry fire be used with the mantis standard?
Yes sir it can.
How does the DFM compare to the Ttrigger?
It’s slightly different but as I demonstrated you can tune it to have the same travel and break point. You can buy the spring kits to get it even closer. We sell those and people like them but I personally don’t find them necessary. I want similar travel and break to mechanically train my finger and build muscle memory. The weight is close enough to where I don’t personally feel it needs to match exactly but it’s pretty close out of the box.
Thanks,
Gary
@paramounttactical Thanks. The reason I asked is because the Ttrigger has an extended warranty superior to the DFM, but from what I've seen, the DFM has better responsiveness with the MantisX comparatively.
Hi, thanks for the helpful video. My Mantis records when I squeeze the trigger and when I release. Do you know what causes that? I have tried to adjust the shot detection delay on the app, but it does not seem to be working. Maybe I am not firing fast enough? Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Do you have it on airsoft mode? Definitely sounds like a settings issue. Are you using a Dry Fire mag?
@@paramounttactical I am using a dry fire mag with the MantisX.
@@lolaprince5289 go to settings. On shot detection mode choose SRT. Click on it and choose SRT/DFM. That should fix it. Let me know if that works.
@@paramounttactical I appreciate the note. Thanks to your video I found that setting and changed it before I started practicing. I’ve had that selected the whole time. I do have it set for 1.5 seconds. Do you think that might be too long for shot detection?
@@lolaprince5289 yes. Try .7
Sometimes mantis doesn’t pick up the trigger pulls from the dry fire mag
Did you adjust the setting to SIRT/DFM like I covered in the video?
I think it would help if you’d slow down your presentation and start with explaining all the Mantis products. Mine did not come with any special magazines so i’m a bit upset all this was not explained. Can i still obtain all the added products? Frankly I’m pissed as i was told the kit i bought came with ALL necessary items to train and have a great positive experience to improve my firing practical experience. Now i need to run around and see if i can find all the additional necessities. I’m not happy about this whatsoever
The mantis is a separate product completely. It just happens to be compatible with the Mantis. I explain that in detail at the beginning of the video.
If you’re not watching the whole video and skipping around, doesn’t matter hoe slow I talk, you’re going to miss things.
Damn 100 bucks is steep.
They aren’t cheap but they are well made.
@@paramounttactical I don’t doubt that just expected the price to be similar to factory mags.
Has anyone confirmed if the Glock mag will
Function in a shadow systems mr920? They take Glock mags.
The way he says “Mantis” it sounds “Menace”…😂🤣😂🤷🏻♂️
I just bought a MantisX- actually seems worthless. The mantis already attaches to a mag, why do you need this.
A) you clearly don’t know how to use it.
B) you clearly didn’t watch the video because it answers that question.
Not for Canik Rival 😢
That is the downside with running outside the pack. Caniks, CZ, and others make great guns but accessories are few and far between. The Mantis still works, you’ll just get more reps cycling the gun in between.
Thanks for watching! -Gary
@@paramounttactical I do have a Glock 19, but I’m transitioning into the Canik family. Playing the field so to speak.
@@ryanmilton2643 I’m curious as to what made you make the switch?
@@paramounttactical I wanted to test out something that was “best out of the box” I still use a Glock for carry, but it was a bit of a rabbit hole for the G19 for a comp. Also I’m a lefty and this “works” so far so good. Less touchy too on different loads. But still exploring.
I have to 100% disagree on dry firing is bad you don't need these systems at all. Are they great tools to help absolutely, I've been shooting 10 years now no formal training, just learned off RUclips videos. I run a bill drilk under 2 seconds from concealed at 7 yards all A zone hits on a idpa target. Running splits between .15-.22 consistently. I only dried fired for the better part of my first three years till I could afford to go to the range weekly.
So let me get this right, you have a study sample of …. 1, yourself? And bc something does or does not work for you, your assumption is that everyone is the same. You’ve taken your singular experience and projected it onto the general population. Got it.
I guess you would also attest that everyone can and should learn everything about firearms from RUclips and formal training isn’t necessary?
Here’s what I can tell you, I’ve been shooting professionally in one form or another going back 20 years and instructing almost as long. I was a Green Beret training foreign Special Operations teams all over the world including Iraq and Afghanistan that went on missions with me. After that I was a Special Tactics Instructor for a federal agency training teams going over seas in high threat areas and then opened Paramount Tactical Solutions in 2014 training mil, Le, and civilians.
Both me and my equally qualified instructors have trained THOUSANDS of people. What I said in this video is very true and verifiable… among people with experience.
This is the problem with people that have learned everything from RUclips, you literally don’t know what you don’t know and have the illusion of knowledge when in fact you’re woefully untrained and lacking knowledge most likely in the areas that matter the most. Who cares what your time is on a particular drill or your split times. You’re not an expert in training methodologies. You have zero experience in this realm, haven’t taken multiple federal and military instructor development courses and it’s honestly gross negligence for you to be opining on the matter. You’re giving advice in areas you know nothing about and could be genuinely hurting people in varying degrees from simply holding them back from something that would really benefit them all the way to getting them killed.
If you’re so opinionated in this area without experience, I’m quite certain you have no problem giving tactical and self defense advice as well. People like you are quite frankly dangerous. Self made experts…
When it comes to training, tactics, and self defense, experience matters… a lot. You have zero. You should sit these conversations out until you have formal training AND operational experience.
@paramounttactical no, not just a singular experience, I've trained 100s of people to get to where they are now. Never ones using the mantis system or the drymag, again not trashing these things. The formal training is not needed it's definitely helpful. I do my training for free it's my way of giving back to the shooting community. The only caveat is people who want to train with me go on my schedule. However, everyone I've ever trained I've shown them the right way of dry firing. Again, I'm not dissing formal training or these products. My problem was with you implying that these are needed to dry fire correctly at home. These are 100% not needed can they help? Yes, I have one for my glocks. I got one just to see the hype it's big advantage is no longer having to manually reset the trigger after every shot. That's all sir I stand by my statement these aren't needed to be a proficient shooter.
@@DLAC000 you should be providing zero training. You’re not qualified.
@paramounttactical lol, okay gatekeeper you mad I teach for free. Lol your trying to make a buck off people with your affiliate program, and your mad I'm doing something to educate people. Yeah I'll listen to some random guy online with a hard sells pitch for a piece of equipment that wasn't around for years. I wonder how bill wilson, robletham, Jerry Miculek, Ernest langdon trained before these thing where invented 🤔
@@DLAC000 I’m not mad at all. I’m just telling you the truth. My last two comments have nothing to do with a product. Someone that learned everything from RUclips has no business teaching anyone anything. If you’re not willing to seek formal training and invest in yourself and the skill set, you have no idea how much you don’t know or how dangerous you really are.
My mantis doesn't register shots with the dryfiremag about 50% of the time? Anyone have any tips?
I cover this in detail in the video. You have to go to Shot Detection Mode/More/SIRT/DFM in the settings.
