- Maine Guide Lisa DeHart, in the first in a series on canoeing in the wind, explains how to gauge the strength of the wind and how to island hop to stay in the lee of small islands and move safely on a windy day.
‘12 to 15’ mph. - you need to be on shore reading a book! Absolutely agree with that instruction.
Worth every second of watching your videos!
this is why I learnt how to sail
and made a sailing rig..
just a maim sail.
I use my ottertail as the rudder, going downwind
and as a jagger board, when beating up wind..
open canoe sailing is Ann incredible experience.

fun fun FUN .
keep going Lisa 🛶👍
Wow Graham, sounds fun. I’ve rigged a sail with the wind at my back and several canoes rafted together. Crude, but fun and effective.
You are hilarious! Yup another cool Maine-iac! Great instruction! From Burlington, Vermont, Season's Greetings & Happy Holidays to you!
Oh Lisa you just kill me! The first minute! Oh thank you for the joy of you!
Amy! Thank you good to hear from you. Merry Christmas, beautiful.
Aorund here, a west wind always seems to blow in your face no matter which way you are paddling! Looking forward to the other wind videos. Thank you for this one.
I need skis for my canoe, the lakes are iced over now. Happy holidays everyone!
You really remember the windy days.
Yes they do. It’s the adrenaline.
Another great video. Solid advice
I was talking to your friend Bob about wind ferrying. Can you cover that in a future video?
I sure can good idea. Not sure when but I’ll put it on the list! Thanks for watching.
informative thanks.
Hello, trying to locate a source for the camper cookall...your contact doesn't seem to have any!!! Thx!
Hey Lisa! Another great video! Still looking for the make/model/where to get the camper kitchen. Help please!
For the Kamper kitchen contact Connie Ullman Dowie. Supplies are limited and the price is 150$ I think. But worth it. Good luck it may take a while.
@@Mainepolingguide THANK YOU!!!
I love island hopping. I would rub the rocks on shore rather than swim with a swamped boat any day.
Hi Lisa, What scale of map was that please?
It’s in an app called TOPO MAPS. I get the section I want at the scale I want and screen shot it and color print. BUT because of that it’s very difficult for me you convert the scale. Also I have to orient using true north lines and convert with declination in the field. Not such a big deal when you get used to it and I’ll probably do a segment this winter.
I use a battery powered pump in my canoe if waves get too big and crest the canoe. Haven’t sunk yet. 😉
You can Facebook message her. I don’t have any other contact for her. It’s no trouble if that doesn’t work Orr you come to a dead end let me know.
I've Facebook messaged her a few time, she doesn't seem to have any stock...any idea who manufactures them so we can source direct?? Merry Christmas!!
Sorry for the hassle Lisa but I have no idea how to locate Connie Ullman Dowie or the Kamper Kitchen. email? website? Thanks so much.
