    - Horde factions experience no culture penalty for the first city they settle in so long as it remains the capital. Generally you want to settle in a huge city as the government building contributes the most culture penalty, and you can't upgrade or demolish the government building in a huge city. Usually this will mean you should settle in Rome or Constantinople. Rome has better military buildings.
    - The Roxolani, Sarmatians, and Goths can be destroyed early on if you corner all their family members in one settlement, kill the family members in the battle, and then withdraw before achieving victory. Your general might gain a rank of "coward" for this, but losing the battle to win the war against three horde factions in the first 15 or so turns will pay real dividends for the Huns.
    - The Huns CANNOT BUILD PORTS! You depend on trade income in BI even more than in vanilla. Be careful about what settlements you take early, as you want them to have a port and to trade with each other.
    - Spend your first turn reorganizing your armies. All cavalry armies with two or three generals will be more effective than a "combined arms" approach, as lolCA was terrible at unit balance in this period of their game development and horde spearmen are a slightly more effective peasant unit for all intents and purposes.
    - The difficulty that CA assigned the factions is primarily related to how many settlements the faction needs to declare victory. Fewer = easier. This, however, doesn't correlate to actual campaign difficulty well at all.
    - The runaway slave spearmen and herdesmen units are considered "untrained" and thus use the same garbage formation as peasants. Though this makes them less likely to be hit by missiles, it also makes them less effective in melee, so their stats don't tell the whole story about their effectiveness.

    Whenever I play the Huns, my goal is to sack all of the ERE in Europe and Northern Italy. This weakens the ERE severely, and, eventually, the Sassanids will either take over or the ERE will recover. If the Sassanids take over, then that is great, because they lack heavy units to counter my cavalry. They do have Clibinarii and Cataphracts, but those units do not have the speed to keep up with my cavalry. The Sassanids AI seems to barely recruit camels and elephants, so it is an easy conquest.

      If not a bad idea, but it will be hard. And I mean really HARD. Their family members are literally tanks with the Immortal Guard, and when they start training clibanarii you are mostly screw if you don't use superior numbers against them and fast.

    • @armandom.s.1844
      @armandom.s.1844 Год назад

      The main problem is that you really gain nothing following that path, as to take down Eastern Empire will be harder if they are not at the same time at war with Sassanians, which you tried to destroy first. Interesting path, but personally I think not as good as moving west.

    • @thesacredlobo
      @thesacredlobo 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@armandom.s.1844 - I mean it's basically the path I'm taking with the Roxolani. Albeit I never turned into a horde in that game set on M/M difficulty. So I just conquered the Sassanid Empire before turning my attention towards the Eastern Roman Empire. At this point in the campaign I control almost all of Anatolia. Though it probably helps that the Eastern Roman Empire Rebels control the two cities below Sidon. So the only place an attack from the Eastern Roman Empire can come from at this point is Byzantium/Constantinople. Though, I'm somewhat tempted to skip over taking that city and focus on the last two targets I need to hold to end the campaign. Though, I'll admit it would be better to secure my holdings by taking Constantinople and moving west towards my last two targets.

    I started campain very fast taking out Roxalani and obtaining their gold. I did my next steps with a hurry - I have sacked Colonia Dacia and some ERE city and established my permanent home in Mediolanum quickly, to be ahead of the Vandals. Suddenly they came and sacked some my cities in nothern Italy, but I recovered because of my new holdings in South Gaul and Tarentum. I have entered Rome and I decided to rebuild Hippodrome to get best units - Hunnic Heavy Cavalry and Hunnic Elite Warriors. Meanwhile I Have pushed my amies to Spain and northern Gaul. The Vandals took their new land in Campus Jazyges (Pannonia) My Elie force marches east to conquer the balkans. When best cities of Rome and Constantinopole arewill be mine, I will have enouch manpower to chrush some hording germanic factions in the north.

  • @selder_7
    @selder_7 9 месяцев назад

    Having just won a campaign with the huns, I’ll stress that I’d amassed 100000 gold before settling Rome, and even with only having about half my starting force by then (bloody Vandals picked a fight trying to get into Italy) and then losing most of that to settling, I was haemorrhaging money when trying to rebuild an army to go take more. So do make sure you go and sack a lot of places because you really will need the money

  • @armandom.s.1844
    @armandom.s.1844 Год назад

    A very important fact about Huns and Vandals, as they start as hordes, is that even if they settle and then lose their last city, they became a horde again with 5 armies at full capacity. They are really annoying to beat as the Romans.

  • @richardistvanthier5620
    @richardistvanthier5620 3 года назад

    The "peasants" for huns are the "herdsmen". Runaway slave spearmen is not the peasants for Huns. It was always chrystal clear for me who live in Hungary haha. Also I think the main settlement building gives herdsmen and they are cheap like peasants.
    I find Huns to be hard. Love Scythia and pretty much like all nomads in all Rome1 games, but when going with Huns I always prefer trying to do things either in Historical order of actions (like going for Pannonia to settle, then unsettle and attack around and such and destroying Roman empire so that other Barbarians can conquer back their lands from the empire with widespread slavery and such civilism) or trying to go for fun like occupying Saxon just because they have temple for +3 missle attack which give awsome boost to already cool horse archers... But problem is this way I can barely ever transform into properly settling down... So hard to get economy going and you immediately become so weak after settling. It kind of works, but I enjoy Scythians much more in original...
    Vandals usually make Sarmatians to go horde too and I always make goths go horde too and they usually make at least one more faction horde which might not help my case... Always attacking goths as they should end up in the west historically and ally with sarmatians because they are also Scythian nation... Never tried to go directly for Constantinople or Rome, but might be good idea.

      Destroy an enemy horde without any building to rebuild yours is nearly impossible. You can win, but what's less of your army couldn't even break a vase and less take a city.
      The best way to destroy a horde, if preventing in from emerging. How? Siege the last city of the faction and kill all the family members, but don't take the town. Withdraw. Yes, withdraw out of the map. That will be a defeat for you, but in the end you wipe out the faction, and his horde will not appear. Instead the town will become rebel make it more easy to take.
