I'll eventually get it. Not for Black Friday though. I was trying to wait a bit longer to upgrade. I thought a couple more headsets would've came out this year.
I’ll pass on this headset i don’t like the controllers especially with the ring on top of controllers htc can’t seem to get it right, ill stick with my meta quest pro which is the best headset of all time comfort wise and the controllers are sleek i also have the quest 3 which blows this headset out the ball park i also a proud owner of psvr2 that headset has awesome visuals and is best in quality than this garbage headset htc any day
I feel exactly the same. why the hell did they go for fresnel lenses in 2024?? I am a flight simmer and will never go back to that small sweet spot! Thats why I replaced my g2 for the pico4 with pancake lenses. The vr headsets from HTC always comes with a major setbacks. cant they read the marked?

Man this would have been the absolute goat if it weren't for the lenses. Wild considering how incredibly well thought out this is, especially with the accessories. If not for that this would already be in my cart.
I preordered one and ended up returning it for a refund. The DisplayPort streaming kit worked great and the headset was very comfortable. However, this was let down by its poor fresnel lens and low vertical FOV.
I don't see why anyone would want this with fresnel lenses, especially at its price point. The lenses have a much bigger impact on visual clarity than display resolution. I just bought a Quest 3 for myself recently, upgraded from an old Gear VR with an old Galaxy S7. I haven't used it in a couple of years, but I wanted to get back into VR, especially for MS Flight Simulator 2024. What a HUGE difference the Quest 3 is over the Gear VR. The pancake lenses make all the difference to me, no annoying chromatic aberration, glare, or screendoor effect. The bigger FOV and high refresh rate is the cherry on top.
I’m sorry, they should have ditched the automatic IPD and spent that money on some better lenses. That headset looks great, but they’ve made some really strange choices.
I might have considered it but freshnel lenses are a technology of the past... How could they not think about putting better/newer lenses at that price?!
Still frenel lens, will still have that horrible glare just like their sister focus 3.. unreal how HTC is doing like the phones, let's sell an upgrade version each year for a crazy $$$ glad to see u pumping out videos tho..
ABout the USB-C extension cable, its for the tracker dongle when you have it plugged into the headset so you can have it resting on the headstrap instead of having it poking out of the USB port on the headset. Using it that way you won't need to calibrate it since it use the headset data for that, the catch is that you can't use DP-mode at same time since the port is occupied so it will only work wirelessly or in Standalone. Having the dongle in the PC does require calibration of the trackers I can't remember if it require OVR Space Calibrator but you will find that out when you do that video. Good to see that you have finally have all the stuff, shame they didn't send it to you sooner.
I would actually buy this HMD because it has everything I need especially face and eye tracking except one thing....the lenses. You have one job with a $1000 headset and that's to use the better lenses. Come on! Now I'm stuck with the Quest Pro as the only good headset with face and eye tracking. Plus the hope and prayer Meta makes a Quest Pro 2 or similar headset. Which I'm afraid they won't.
Since the bigscreen beyond exists, for 1k with OLED screens, there is no excuse for bigger companies to not offer the same screen and size for even cheaper. A beyond-like with included tracking cameras and dedicated controllers would be the end of the game. What are companies waiting for. This HTC is not enticing with its LCD screens and huge form factor at a premium price.
Cheaper wouldn't be possible unless they want to sell it at cost or a loss and no one other than Meta and Bytedance can do that. What you describe already exist and has for quite some time Arpara 5K AIO tho it only exists in China. But I do agree that more headsets like it should be a thing, the only thing close to it will be Pimax Cystal Super uOLED hopefully more follow suit.
Love a lot about what you said this headset has and it looks great. Real bummer that they are using fresnel lenses though... It's cool it has the auto dp adjust for the sweet spot, that should help but I feel like even with the sweet spot aligned there's some extra distortion when you look around with your eyes. Seems like at this premium price point pancake lenses should be standard, especially when the rest of the headset seems pretty quality. Huge difference in peripheral clarity in the experience since I made the switch to quest 3 and my last headset with fresnel lenses, but maybe that's just me? I feel like if the quest 3 can do it at their price point it wouldn't have been much of a jump in price if they went with pancakes when it's already costing 1k. Edit: and great video giving a nice overview of the headset and everything it comes with, love all your videos!! :)
This is the reverb G3, always thought this design was great, unfortunately it has the same problem as the reverb G2, terrible lenses. If only they had used aspheric
Wonder if face tracker would work on other headsets if plugged into usb or they locked it with some software bs. I doubt they will sell many of these a bit outdated with fresnel lenses and old style controllers and xr1...
Nice one! I'm really looking forward to your review, as I'm considering options to replace my poor rejected Reverb G2. The OG Vive was my first headset... so this would bring nostalgia without the annoyance of base stations and chonky controllers. Lenses are a bit of a let down, plus I'm an audio snob and those weeny speakers don't inspire me by the looks of them. I'm happy to be proven wrong though!
With this headset, Vive is sticking with their current philosophy which is to focus on the professional world of VR, because they believe they can't compete with the Quest 3 which a huge majority of people are preaching because of the cost-benefit ratio. That being said, it has lots of interesting features that almost tempted me into purchasing it, but no OLED and I prefer having the option to use SteamVR/lighthouse tracking. I guess the reason they still use Fresnel is because they recycled the optics and the panels from the Vive Pro 2. Same lenses, same resolution. Personally, I liked the lenses on the Pro 1 and the Pro 2. Even if the edges were blurry, I still had a bigger sweet spot/usable field of view than on the Bigscreen Beyond.
I’ll stick to my PSVR 2 and use my PC adapter to play every steam game, meta store game and PS5 game! With a global cluster headset mod it’s the most comfortable headset I’ve ever worn and besides when I busted it out to play Asgards Wrath 2 and Batman my Quest 3 is even starting to collect dust.
The hate makes me want to try it even more. People are mad like they are forced to buy it. Or they work for the rival. It's odd. And kinda funny. Everything is not for everyone, but it's for someone. It's not that critical.
Why can't we have another simple pcvr displayport that cost around $500 to $600? Meta Quest easily destroy anything standalone so no need to compete with them at the moment

I know it’s so unfortunate because if the quality control wasn’t so terrible, it would be a great headset. I’ve heard too many horror stories and as a company and brand I think they’re underestimating the damage they have done to themselves

yeah no ... they need to bring some innovation to excite people ...this is the same form factor of the oculus quest from 2019 ...too big too bulky ... no progress in the field of view and lens technology ...
RUclipsr, Voodoode VR did a review of this and demonstrated how even with all its good points , it had far far more negatives and it just clearly showed how cheap and crap this headset is
I'm really concerned for PCVR right now. The quality is there with this product but it is using last generation technology. VIVE was the first real deal PCVR and you would have thought they would of made a come back to the top at some point. Like you say though this does have a use, all be it very niche maybe ? and you just would have thought for the price they would have put some better lenses or screens but saying that i suppose it has everything else like eye tracking, passthrough and auto IPD. Personal opinion, the controllers are garbage, touch sensors were broken, copies meta quest old design and the plastic feels cheaper although more sturdy. My xr elite had dead pixels out of the box and their ultimate trackers PLEASE don't buy unless you have studio grade lights and in general I have HORRIBLE experience with them so far. When they work they barely mostly work, when they don't they are extremely annoying, wait till Shiftall makes haritorax x wireless R.
I do not understand why vive focus is going back in time. Quest 3 pancake lenses has proved that they are far superior then old fresnel lenses. I lost my interest in the video as soon as saw fresnel lenses…

You lost me at fresnel lenses. I was excited for this headset as I am primarily a PCVR user. But fresnel lenses are a no go in 2024.

The last Vive I tried had too small max IPD, then I have an IPD of 75mm.

Pancake lenses should be standard for any high-end headset. The only reason why I wouldn't consider the Vive.

Probably it has to do with this. being a mid-lifecycle refresh instead of a new product, which would need lots of resources to make new things happen.
