  • Park Junkie happened to be in the nation's capitol during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which marks the coming of warmer months.
The National Park Service manages the Tidal Basin, in addition to the greater Washington National Mall, which sits just to the north of the Tidal Basin.
Traffic is a mess during this time, so if you plan on visiting, best to use the Metro, or a bike, skate or scooter thingy. For more information, check out the NPS Cherry Blossom Festival Schedule of Events: www.nps.gov/na...
For those who would like to add a public comment on the proposed renovations to the Tidal Basin wall, follow this link: www.nps.gov/na...
Those who would like to send a message to their elected representatives in the House and the Senate can now visit the Democracy IO link below, which provides a quick, painless method by which you can find and message your reps in a matter of seconds.
Just go to the link below, as well as the Google Doc linked below that, copy the FLREA Letter to Reps in Google Docs, then paste that into the comment section in the Democracy IO link. This takes less than two minutes, and you'll rest well, knowing that you took action to effect change for the benefit of future generations of our people.

Thanks for the Tour and info. I did not know they had a MLK monument there. I think they should just let it flood every year and people can just deal with it.

Cherry blossoms, blue skies and a tidal basin ramble with Park Junkie, who could ask for more? For some reason, seeing you sporting that panama hat and those shades brings to mind David Byrne in True Stories 🙂. Did you get a chance to tour any of the Smithsonian venues? Whenever I'm in town I have to pay my respects to Henry the African Elephant in the rotunda of the Natural History Musuem who impressed me so much when I was there back in 1966.
