As someone who lives in the southwest (Arizona), I think the type of tent you get depends on the specific area you'll be camping in. Yes, we are known for our hot summers, but the fall and winter can get surprisingly cold. The entire state is surprisingly dry, but condensation can still be an issue if you're not prepared for it. You definitely want good ventilation. Not only to prevent condensation, but also if you're going to camp in the summer, it can get quite hot. However, if you're camping in the colder months, that's something to consider, too. I'd prefer a tent that has plenty of ventilation, AND lots of zippable windows so you can zip them up to retain as much heat as you need. Arizona's terrain is varied and so is the climate. So your tent needs may be different depending on whether your camping in the deserts or the mountains. Just something to keep in mind.
We camped out in New Mexico and ran into cold temps at night and hot temps during the day. It was mid November so the nights got quite chilly so I can relate!
Condensation comes from the tenters’ breath, not so much from the environment. If the tent is not great quality and the seams have not been sealed moisture most definitely will get in. But condensation is from moisture in breath
I am so glad I found your channel. I'm homeless getting ready to set up my camp next week. I needed to see this video so I have a good idea on what to get. I'm 6,5 so a cabin tent makes sense. I'm aiming to survive winter in Nebraska. What would you recommend? I need to be warm and survive all the snow.
Wow!!! Prayers answered by you. Thank you so much!!! Completely turned us around from what we were going to purchase. Now we’ll look into Dome style. You saved us more than just money. Again… thank you. 💕
You are one of my faves. When you threw that pop up tent...I laughed so hard. Your intellect coupled with humor makes your info easy and enjoyable to consume.
@@LoneCrowAdventures Coleman dome tent. I also watched your Coleman Sundome review and noticed that it did fairly well in rough weather. I don't go camping if I am expecting any real rain so an inexpensive dome tent should be just the ticket for me. Thanks!
My instinct is to avoid them but I've honestly never tries one and have been curious about how well they work, especially after multiset ups and take downs 🤔
Great video, how important is a ground tarp/foot print? I recently bought the Coleman 6 person instant tent and can't determine if the ground tarp is necessary for dry weather only camping.
If you know for sure it's going to be dry you'll be fine. If the temp is dipping at night a ground cloth may prevent some condensation build up at night. To be honest, unless it's going to rain I don't use one.
I re-watched this to help me decide which of the several tents that I own to take with me on an upcoming trip. I decided to bring my 4P cabin vs my 6P dome (I can stand up in both of them) since my cabin tent has steel poles vs. the fiberglass ones on my 6P, and easier solo setup with my cabin tent. I will be bringing my 2P bike-packing tent (aluminum poles) for in-transit overnight camping and as a backup.
Awesome video!! I have a camped for 30+ years and have camped in all types of tents. Now I am getting into tunnel/airbeam tents from the uk. They are huge and built with extreme weather in mind. Looking to get my tunnel tent this summer. Happy camping!!
Thanks for this helpful video! I myself bought a pop up cabin tent, and j disagree that the size in storage and transport is "large". Perhaps it's all relative, but the whole reason I bought this tent is because ny Gazelle T4+ is just too much. It's too heavy, takes up an enormous amount of space, is difficult to set up by yourself without damaging, and just generally too much! Great tent, just overkill. Thanks again!
I just found your channel while looking at tents and I’m glad I did. Great information and I appreciate you showing the set up especially being a short woman myself.
Great overview of tents! Currently looking for a family tent for taking the family for first camping... don't want to overspend in case the family isn't as into the wilderness as I hope...
The last time I was in a tent was during my Military years in the mid to late 80s. I ordered a pop-up 3-4 person tent from Amazon that's coming Friday. I live in Pittsburgh, and I've been feeding Squirrels in my area for 24 months so far. I just want to use it during the daytime to hang out with them in their area for a couple of hours. Thanks for the informative video! BTW, you gotta new subscriber!!
Great video! I like the Coleman 6 person pop-up tent, except it doesn’t have an electrical access port. Is there an aftermarket one that can be installed?
I chose a Gazelle which sadly was not re viewed. As an older camper, standing inside the tent, not crawling in and being able to assemble and disassemble quickly were important to me. What are your thoughts about the Gazelle T4?
I want a Gazelle quite badly actually. They have a great design and are on my list of tents I'd love to own. Looks very solid too. How has yours held up?
Thank you this was very helpful! As a first timer from the desert I'll definitely look into your recommendations. Are there any tents you would recommend for under $200?
I like the Coleman 6-person or 8-person Evanston style of dome tent because I want to be able to set my camp chair in the shade or under cover when it rains in the tent's porch. I used the 4-person style for over ten years, but it was not quite tall enough for me to stand up in. I believe I could stand up (6'-0") in the 6-person, but certainly in the 8-person variety. Today it is selling for under $120. The skeeter net is just a bonus for me, I only need the shade/cover offered by the extension of the dome to the front. Either one will sleep 2 adults on separate cots. I used the 4-person tent as a single for me and my cot.
If it's in great shape no need to size down unless you find it difficult to set up since it's so big. It's probably big enough for a card table in there if it's raining! If it's still working I'd keep rolling with it!
@@LoneCrowAdventures ya good plan maybe ill get a second low cost 2 man dome for portability, but don't like pricing of lighter ones. I'm not a backpacker yet.
This is going to sound…. Well about right for a Texan, but at the end you left Texas off! Does that mean we can just use anything down here?! I’m really thinking we’d like the cabin style best for the head room, but worried about the condensation because we can have pretty variable tents and strange weather.
When I camped in Texas we used a dome tent, mostly due to the high winds in the Guadalupe Mountains which is where we were camping. Texas doesn't seem to have near the humidity of the midwest or the northeast so I think you'd be happy with a cabin tent so long that it's not going to be super windy. Those Guadalupe Mountains can produce mega winds!
I think I’m going to love my Nemo Aurora Highrise tent I just purchased. It’s like a dome tent with vertical walls. This was very informative thank you.
That tent is super cute!!!! The use of those horizontal bars makes a big difference for spaciousness on the inside. I have a tent that is very similar in design, the Unigear Space Dome 2. I love it!!!

We spent about 5x years in Peoria so I've used all 3x types of tents. I like the dome style tent the best for Illinois mainly due to the wicked thunderstorms that can pop up. I always look for a peak to ground rainfly. My personal favorite tent is the Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6. It is a dome tunnel style and you don't have to crouch to get in it. I'll send the link so you can check it out but they discontinued the model 2x years ago. It's a good launch pad to start from though. amzn.to/3IPLgyW

Hi, the Wenzel Klondike 8 person tent is basically a two room tent. It has a front room that acts as a screened in porch with a completely enclosed (sealed on the sides, top, and bottom, accessed through a zippered door) sleeping area. This, to me, is a perfect layout. The problem is it's not an instant tent, and the screen area is lower than the sleeping area. Is there a tent out there that has those features but an instant tent with the same height across the tent?
