  • Random guy makes absurdly detailed drag racing sim all by himself in Unity, manages to humiliate the officially licensed NHRA game. And it's online. And it's free.
    This is the funniest thing that has ever happened in sim racing.

  • @alpha007org

    It's funny how game development progressed in last two decades. We have AAA studios with hundreds of employees, and they produce some beta buggy game on launch day. Then we have small studios, like the studio behind V Rising or ACC (~10-20 people) and they are making as good or better games than AAA studios. I'm a software dev,., and there is a paradox of the size of developers for any kind of project. I don't know how it's officially called, but when you increase developers on a project and once you reach X number of people, you need almost 10 X (ten times X) for a big studio to be as productive as small X studio.
    Regarding game development: Game Engines have become like putting legos together. Most things are just "click - point - apply." Look at the examples of what people did with Unreal Engine 5. One person, and tech demos are insane.

    • @raffriff42
      @raffriff42 Год назад

      >I don't know how it's officially called, but
      I've heard [something like it] called "The Mythical Man-Month" aka "Brooks's law" (while it takes one woman nine months to make one baby, nine women can't make a baby in one month)

    • @alpha007org
      @alpha007org Год назад +1

      @@raffriff42 No, it was capitalism doing its thing. In around 2000-2005 when the gaming industry started to get bigger and bigger, and the first AAA studios emerged, they made studies to determine how to maximize productivity in software development. They found out that small group was often more productive than big 100 people department. And how to split people into groups. Then IDEs (and game engines) developed in a way to enable different groups of people to more easily work on the same project.
      When I was writing code in 2000, there was no team management tools, or very basic stuff.

    • @kodgames889
      @kodgames889 Год назад +2

      Now, I don't play games anymore except simracing. And from writing code for work, coding is only a tiny amount of the job.
      If I were more into gaming now, had more free time, I would explore Unreal 5. From what I have seen, you can select "stuff" from Unreal Exchange (I don't know what it's called) and make amazing things.
      I think if you* really learn it (including scripting), made a couple of tech demos, you can get a job 100%. Amazing how the technology progressed.

As opposed to most drag racing games for mobile, that one (and its predecessor) are closer to simulation, where you have to adjust timing, fuel flow and whatnot. Hi, thanks for the feedback. UI improvements are definitely in the to do list. As for the cramped lanes you are correct in your other comment, I have modeled local tracks very close to how they are in real life, because I expected this project to be a much more local thing to where I live, I did not expect people from all over. I can say that the next track in mind will have better staging lanes put into consideration, as it will be the track I put the most effort into.

      @kodgames889 Год назад +1

      @@UnderwaterAlexJones Hi, the "groove" (skidmarks) of the track have more grip, but this grip isn't the same in all tracks. • @kodgames889
      @kodgames889 Год назад +2

      @@UnderwaterAlexJones The rubber thing is something I have thought but I haven't decided on it because it's introducing yet another variable to gameplay that could cause tunes to change, Austin didn't mention but there is density altitude in the game and the engine will make more or less power depending that, and it already seems hard for players to keep up with that. It's not out of the table but it's not on my direct plans either.
