Love how Lucas said "fans only." He knows they're full of shit. If it was a small contingent of star wars fanboys or comicon fans he would have stopped to show love. The man has been in the business since 77, he knows the difference.

Awesome! GL is 100% correct. These slime just want to sell his autograph. I'm a true fan and have been for 40 years. True fans don't act like douchebag aholes around someone they admire. Lucas did the right thing!
I have to have respect for him here for telling it like it is. Like George or not, he worked for his money and wants to give that to real fans. So he's disgusted by these autograph scalpers that would sell his name to make money when they've done nothing to contribute to anything except leeching off of those who are successful.

I'm in the game industry and while mixing our audio at Skywalker Ranch he came by. He's a big guy. Intimidating. Stern gaze. You can see why he's where he's at. I got the feeling he wouldn't hesitate to slug someone no matter who they were if they pissed him off
In the beginning I thought Lucas was wrong but after watching this I guess he was perfect keeping cool head with these annoying guys

IMO an Autograph is only worth something when you get it yourself, otherwise it means nothing. There is no memory attached to it. I am not fortunate enough to have many but the best one I have is the late Robin Williams and I would never sell that in a million years.

When I've sold LPs with the artist's autograph (acquired by someone else, not me) on the cover, I never upped the price one cent for it. I just hoped that fans would get to them before re-sellers - they sold right away so I'm afraid it was mostly the latter.

Idk how famous people are able to even be this nice I would be cancelled from flipping out on people. When I’m out with my family eating dinner and people come up to me for an autograph while I have food in my mouth I would loose my mind I would have to hire a couple guards to keep people away I would never do that to someone. Just last year I was at a casino on vacation and in the elevator was this A-list celebrity with his wife and kids and my buddy turns around to start talking to him and ask for an autograph I pull him to the other side and tell him dude he’s obviously on vacation with his family be respectful. That night I went to this one small bar in the casino to get a drink before bed and that celebrity walks up and sits next to me and said thank you for what you did in the elevator. I said dude believe me I love all ur movies and what not but I would never hound you or anyone else when ur with ur family or doing normal stuff people have no respect. I told my buddy imagine you get out of work and on ur way home you stop at the store and 10 of ur customers hound you to do more work for them wouldn’t you get pissed off? Well it’s the same thing for famous people. The actor said well most people don’t think about it like that they just think I’m some super human person when I’m just a regular human I just have a really cool job. He asked me what room I was in and we said our goodbyes. Well when we went to leave a few days later I find out he paid for our room that was $800 per night and all the expenses all because I treated him like a regular person.
The best is to stop buying autographs from these dealers because there is nothing solid to backup the authenticity of these "street" autographs so they are essentially worthless anyway. One just got to take the words of these shady characters that it is real.... and only a fool would.
If people stop buying from them... then it would no longer be worth their time to hound celebrities. Then maybe... the stars would not mind signing for real fans again.

When George Lucas started out as a film maker, technical equipment was very expensive and hard to get. Also it was very bulky and you needed lots of logistical planning just to transport a basic camera/lighting/sound set. Nowadays basically all you need is a good smartphone to start. Even releasing your film has become much easier. Back in the day you needed movie studios, a manager, festivals... Nowadays you create an acount on RUclips, Vimeo or whatever.
But the main ingredients you need are still the same as they always have been: Talent and passion!
So Lucas is absolutely right: If you have enough talent and passion, there's nothing stopping you nowadays to create your own movie. Doesn't have to be feauture length. Lucas also started with shorts.

The thing is Lucas got it 1/2 right. You are doing today what he did back in the day. You have a RUclips channel with the potential to grow to a big viewership. And over time it will. Then maybe he would direct a movie based on your come up....

not every fan will have a opportunity to meet him, so that whole free stuff is bull, like if it was like that then why do celebs charge at cons such as mark Hamill charging 300, Arnold charging 400. if that's the case George then have a address that people can send in items to get signed for free
Why would he even think about signing ttm requests? He probably gets a shopping cart full of autograph requests everyday so he would have no time for anything else if he signed ttm requests. It's a ripoff what some celebrities charge at shows. All autographs are now is a business.
@@MrDodger3222 imo he should at least do star wars celebration every year if possible, its 1 weekend out of the year he can do panels and do a good amount of autographs either through a company like swau or whoevers covering the autographs that year, but all these celebs do sometimes is talk a big game but when it comes down to it their just as greedy and selfish lol like SLY for example charging close to 1k for a 8x10 is just slimy, granted theres some awesome celebs but that far and few between

im surprised how much time Lucas even gave this guy. Lucas film has always fucked their fans by some of the tricks they pull when buying special editions dvds and such. you already own one edition but to get a few minutes of extra footage you have to buy the sequels all over again. they didn't release the original movies to vhs for like 15 yrs.

The guy wanting the autograph just wants it to sell it for $200. Lucas was not charging money, he refused to sign the autograph because the guy was not a fan and just wanted to make money from George Lucas' signature.
While I appreciate George's stance on the subject, I don't agree with his comment that everyone has access to get his autograph "for free." First I would need to know his schedule, then I'd need to have the financial freedom to get to where he is. Then I would need a hell of a lot of luck to be in the right place at the right time when he arrives to ask for an autograph. Not to mention get back home, food, lodging, etc. It would be nice to be able to get his autograph in person, but sadly $200.00 off of ebay is cheaper, and more financially feasible to someone like me.

That's true not everyone can meet him and get a autograph from him. He probably doesn't respond to most autograph requests through the mail either. I just think the reason he hates the autograph dealers is because of the fact they aren't fans of him when he could have signed those autographs for people that would cherish them instead.

try Harrison ford!! he will punch you. Carrie fisher and mark Hamill both charged 60$ at many conventions for an autograph and pic. its foul but neither had the same success after star wars.
@@justinb954 Generally speaking, convention organizers had a contractual requirement with actors that they charge for autographs. I think the organizers get a cut of the autograph profits, so the talent couldn't refuse to charge if they wanted to.

Spielberg and Scorsese still make great films and we get from him we're middle fingers to his fans in the form of the special editions and the prequels. What a vile human being.
