Not the best moment to start doing your own thing when the movie has 7 previous movies to consider and one more that will round it all up. If anything last Jedi was an amateur fuck up on unseen before scale. Which is not a good comparison to the first movie a New hope. Had this been a standalone movie i still would have had issues with it. But I would have rated it much higher though certainly not for its plot.

Just re-watched the prequels for the first time in YEARS and I can't understand why I ever thought he messed them up. Sure there are some cheesy moments but overall they are an amazing piece of filmmaking. I feel like at the time expectations were impossibly high and nothing would ever be good enough.

I swear every time I go back to stuff like the prequels, it continues to shock me how damn good the visuals are for the time. Even stuff like Revenge of the Sith could still hold up today I reckon, especially that immaculate first shot. I know he also read Edgar Rice Burroughs, Edward Elmer Smith, Frank Herbert , Leigh Brackett, Edmond Hamilton. He also watched a lot of movies and read a lot of comic books. You can see that all in Star Wars. The Akira Kurosawa and John Ford, and Howard Hawks Influence. The Errol Flynn films. The Flash Gordon and EC comics influence.
George's speech about joy vs pleasure is really profound in its simplicity. Its of course not a new notion but he puts it really well. Its really sound life advice that we should all strive to follow.
I’m 27 years old and I love Star Wars, I’ll always remember going to watch phantom menace when I was like 5 or 6, and it made my heart happy, I connected to it. I still feel like that today, being older now I appreciate the life lessons in the movies and the story of anakin.
In my opinion, it's the fans that actually shit all over him and that's why he sold the company. We didn't appreciate what he put out with the prequels and shit all over him. Many fans still do.

I was always told to get a good job (office), doctor, lawyer, whatever, but my real passion is and will forever be entertainment: writing, directing, acting, painting, and so forth. I got fed up with all the pessimism and left, pursuing my own path and landed in Hollywood where I currently still reside. Never in a million years would've I thought I'd get here, but my ambition never ceased and the voice in my head kept on saying "go do it"
I've just re-watched the prequels with my 17 yo daughter and - being a fan of SW since I was 6 - it was a pure joy watching her watching the films and reacting. Somehow SW became a bonding time with my grumpy teenager, and I am grateful for this.

I understand why george sold, but the sequels really proved how different he was than the rest when it comes to filmmaking. His approach is imperfect, but iconic and timeless. His stories will live on when others will be lost to time. It is because he had something to say with his films. He had a purpose in what he did. It is really hard to find that these days in the films that come out.

(Being born in 1997) I grew up with the star wars films, and being young when they all came out, i loved them. I didn't see any mistakes with them, and didn't criticise them because I know that no-one is perfect, and now that i'm older i can see one or two mistakes made by Lucas, but i don't mind that, as he , in my view, still a great filmmaker and i still accept his films, and don't beat him up about them. You're a Legend George Lucas. Don't stop your great films!

Pleasure vs Joy is really potent in today’s society. Everyone wants pleasure, they want the luxury items, they want sex with no commitment, they want food and a hot body without work. But everyone is also miserable in that lifestyle. George is right in that pursuing joy is so much more fulfilling. Joy in your friends and family and faith, joy in what you do, who you help, what you make. That will help you find fulfillment and help you find purpose in life.

He read a lot of science fiction novels while he was doing research for Star Wars. I'm sure Asimov was one of the authors. I know he also read Edgar Rice Burroughs, Edward Elmer Smith, Frank Herbert , Leigh Brackett, Edmond Hamilton. He also watched a lot of movies and read a lot of comic books. You can see that all in Star Wars. The Akira Kurosawa and John Ford, and Howard Hawks Influence. The Errol Flynn films. The Flash Gordon and EC comics influence.
So Star Wars is the legacy of all great novels of 20th century.

George's speech about joy vs pleasure is really profound in its simplicity. Its of course not a new notion but he puts it really well. Its really sound life advice that we should all strive to follow.

He gave some really great advice. That was some wise and dense stuff that came from the heart. His iconic laugh at the end was great too.
I’m 27 years old and I love Star Wars, I’ll always remember going to watch phantom menace when I was like 5 or 6, and it made my heart happy, I connected to it. I still feel like that today, being older now I appreciate the life lessons in the movies and the story of anakin.
I wish Disney didn't completely shit on his amazing legacy by their rotten sequel trilogy.
Walt himself would be appalled at how his Company did this guy.

Thank you my friend! Ironically I followed his advice. I was always told to get a good job (office), doctor, lawyer, whatever, but my real passion is and will forever be entertainment: writing, directing, acting, painting, and so forth. I got fed up with all the pessimism and left, pursuing my own path and landed in Hollywood where I currently still reside. Never in a million years would've I thought I'd get here, but my ambition never ceased and the voice in my head kept on saying "go do it"
I've just re-watched the prequels with my 17 yo daughter and - being a fan of SW since I was 6 - it was a pure joy watching her watching the films and reacting. Somehow SW became a bonding time with my grumpy teenager, and I am grateful for this.
Now i know where Yoda got his lines from.

I understand why george sold, but the sequels really proved how different he was than the rest when it comes to filmmaking. His approach is imperfect, but iconic and timeless. His stories will live on when others will be lost to time. It is because he had something to say with his films. He had a purpose in what he did. It is really hard to find that these days in the films that come out.
This man is very wise and a inspiration. Sad that Star Wars got destroyed though. We need you back George!
Star wars isn't destroyed, you can still watch the first 6 + the mandalorian, the book of boba fett and soon obi wan kenobi are amazing series.

Mando is overrated, BoBF is shit, and I have no hope in the Kenobi show esp with them just nostalgia baiting every character.

George Lucas is correct on both accounts (again based on Biblical Principles, God speaks directly about how Pleasure is fleeting, and Joy is all about sustainability). What great advice, I always hated school and found that in real life you learn everyday something new from the jobs you do. My father didn't let us watch TV much he called it the idiot box, we had great imaginations and were good with our hands.

They were a mixed bag from the very beginning. But good movies; in execution, acting; story/plot and visuals. The script was tacky; and some interactions didnt work out. But honestly...thats what I thought about the OT as well. :)

Wow. That blew me away. Why am I so surprised he would be that eloquent, moving and inspiring? His imagination and creativity are limitless.
He was multi talented. Good at drawing, good at photography. An amateur race car driver and mechanic. All his talents seemed to coincide with making movies, except writing. He was always weak at writing. But he was one of the most talented editors.
Fans give him such a hard time. This man is wise, talented, and kind I wish more star war fans will see that

(Being born in 1997) I grew up with the star wars films, and being young when they all came out, i loved them. I didn't see any mistakes with them, and didn't criticise them because I know that no-one is perfect, and now that i'm older i can see one or two mistakes made by Lucas, but i don't mind that, as he , in my view, still a great filmmaker and i still accept his films, and don't beat him up about them. You're a Legend George Lucas. Don't stop your great films!

George is a inspiration I credit him for being one of my inspirations to go into filmmaking and to getting me hooked on Star Wars as episode one was released the same year I was diagnosed with epilepsy and I’ve been a fan of Star Wars since then
Pleasure vs Joy is really potent in today’s society. Everyone wants pleasure, they want the luxury items, they want sex with no commitment, they want food and a hot body without work. But everyone is also miserable in that lifestyle. George is right in that pursuing joy is so much more fulfilling. Joy in your friends and family and faith, joy in what you do, who you help, what you make. That will help you find fulfillment and help you find purpose in life.
