Mothers-in-law - CORRECT phrasing. Mothers are plural, and a plural word NEVER has an apostrophe!

Although you can use an apostrophe on plural words, it just goes after the “s.” For example, “Our mothers’ knitting club is making blankets today.” Putting the apostrophe at the end shows that you are talking about multiple mothers. As apposed to “Our mother’s knitting club is making blankets today,” which only refers to one mother. Hope this helps! But don’t worry, it’s an easy mistake to make! 😉
