I like the sweeps that Tommy has used that are mortised into the bottom of the door. Less of an eyesore and less chance of stepping on it or bending it by accident.
There's been many channels and shows to come along over the years, but I have never forgotten the things learned from this old house. I watched as a kid!
gotta love how the camera cuts away, to avoid showing how close his fingers are to that spinning blade 🤣 there's a freakin push stick sitting on top of the fence.
The funny thing is, that table saw has one built right in, mounted on the outside edge of the fence. He literally brushes over it with his ring finger as he pushes it through at ruclips.net/video/jCTEbDOxk9g/видео.html.
Sometimes the push stick creates more of a hazard then riding the fence with your hand. I had to make 4 of those for my home and I can safely say for myself that the push stick would have increased a kickback likelihood on both the bevels and rabbit.
I cut my hand severely doing exactly what he just did, while i was cutting a transition strip. You really need a zero clearance throat plate for that kind of cutting and a better method of feeding the material through. For me, my piece got pulled down into the throat plate gap the instant I finished the cut on the backend. The taper I was cutting became too narrow for a safe cut and dropped down well below blade height and my fingers caught the blade. Not a fun ER visit. I was cringing and having PTSD flash backs while watching him do that!
Is it just me, or did he do the exact opposite of what he said he would? In the initial consultation, he was going on about how it should be flush or lower, and then proceeded to make it taller than it was originally.
That sweep was really cock-eyed in relation to the joinery, eek! Definitely liked Tommy's recessed sweep better and that's a prime example of why. Threshold was nice, though.
I think I would've tapered the threshold at like 60⁰ instead of 45⁰ so make it a little smoother and not undercut the door so it sticks up less. Concept is good though
Do not do this to your nice front door unless you want your house to look like a cheap rental. The carpentry is fine, but the aluminum strip at the bottom of the door is ugly. The worker could have routed a channel into the bottom of the door while he had it up on the saw horses.
My outside sill at the bottom of the storm door is all jangly and looks like someone stomped on it. I hate it. I don't even know what to do with it. I'm guessing a piece of wood with aluminum to cover it so if someone steps on it at least it will not look like metal mashed potatoes.
I'm going to need to seal the endgrain on my front door... Sanded it down last summer as it was binding with the threshold, got it wet while power washing the stoop and it's binding again... :( I'll probably hit it with Spar Urethane.... unless someone else has other ideas.

I believe everyone needs a Nathan.
Nice push stick. They come stock on every hand. Until you lose a few!
And here I thought he was going to rebuild the whole threshold and install a sweep that wasn't ugly.
Makes you look kind.of silly that you were thinking that
@@Fattony6666 I know. :(
That’s what I thought too
@Laura Brown Thanks, Spambot. Curtains.
I thought I was the only one who thought that sweep was an eye sore. I just don't get why you put something visually cheap on an expensive door.
Someone needs to get Nathan a push stick for his table saw, yeesh.
the GRR-RIPPER push block. That was some gnarly cuts without a stick or block.

@@ILikeFreedomYo just buy the table saw with better safety features….you know the one I”m talking about
Just what the doctor ordered for my next home improvement project.

All was done with skill and Craftsmanship 👍.
No - DeWalt and Festool.
@@dalesworld1308 Oh yeah it would have been better with a nail, a rubber band and a can opener like in McGyver?
Now that's crasftsmanahip!!!! Great vid!!!! Thank you.
This is NOT “how to make an exterior door threshold” this is “how to make a transition piece” which could be anywhere in the house. HUGE Difference!
That door sweep is nifty!
Not really.
It's nifty but about as ugly as it gets
I need one too 😢😢😭 amazing job ! I looookedddd everywhere for a video like this.
Is it just me, or did he do the exact opposite of what he said he would? In the initial consultation, he was going on about how it should be flush or lower, and then proceeded to make it taller than it was originally.
Your answer is at 0:33. The finish matches the description. He wanted the flooring to be lower than the threshold.

Wow! Glad I clicked on this. Amazing job I have a similar need.
Haters gona hate. Good job man!
link in description for the weatherstrip is not the type Nathan used in this video. help!
someone responded, "Door sweep is made by M-D, called Flex-O-Matic"
The link for the spring load weatherstripping item is incorrect. I can't seem to find this product anywhere, please post correct link. thx
Great timing, I was looking for an adjustable weatherstripping for an older door.
That looks cool. Where can I find that door sweep? Do they list materials somewhere?

And a bit thinner (doesn’t project above the floor so much) and wider (so it is less obvious).
He wants to put a rug in front of the door- that’s why undercut was necessary.
Like Logan said. He wanted the door to clear a rug so he needed to cut the door then bring the threshold up.
Please add a link to where you buy the door sweep or at least the name of the company that make it so I can buy one.

Everybody has there own style as long as your careful to each is own if ur confident enough to not use a push stick so be it

Wow looks like a major tripping hazard.. I have no idea why they didn't build up that whole thing so they don't trip!
the link to the sweep isnt the one in the video ..... id like that link if anyone has it
Great job!
3:20 There's no better push stick than your fingers! 🩹🏥
That threshold is a tripping hazard... not sure why it's so tall.
Thresholds and gutters are 2 things that are unnecessary and only cause problems.
What kind of fence is that on tablesaw? And what did you seal endgrain with?
That is the built in fence for the Dewalt Jobsite/Contractor table saws. Look at the DWE7485 for an example.

He’s pushing with fingers, and at the end of the wood piece, a slip up and his fingers meet the blade at 7000rpm. We should be using a push tool.
