British press ignore any potential long-term thoughts and opinions. It is entirely reactionary. You could win 10 on the bounce, then lose 1 and it is 'JOB UNDER THREAT'. Spanish press, by contrast, ask VERY tactical questions. E.g. 'We could all see it wasn't working with Benzema up top today, why did you wait until.the 80th minute to bring him off and even then, replace with a midfielder, when it was still a draw?'. he needs time ;)
Players tend to love him when he gets a few years with them.
He's running the Dutch national team now - press conferences are back! (for us - in Dutch).
He's a bit more mellow now, but only slightly. Perhaps relaxed is a better word - he did retire after all and was living in Portugal.
Football beckoned - and he once again raised the confidence of many players. And had short term results, against all odds - though we are definitely not there yet. Again, like with MU, he's given only little time to do what he does best... Creating an unbreakable teamspirit - especially for newcomers and young men (under 30).
He's a brutally honest but very perceptive man, often misunderstood and always in a bitter fight with the (sensationalist) press ;)

I am a die hard MU fan. Fans in the UK that don't stand by the leadership and club when there are performance troughs are unworthy and ungrateful. You short change the potential of the club to actually pick itself up and achieve greater things. The modern MUFC fan has been spoiled. As for the press in the UK by and large, no words.

Stories of his sacking weren't made up. HE SAID HIMSELF afterwards that he saw jose at the cup final, the club had decided to replace him no matter what (similar to liverpool with dalglish). As is normal, the media often get wind of these stories before they happen, and they reported it.

    • @brendanhill4556

He meant they were made up at the time when he did that press conference in December 2015 Van Gaal most likely got sacked before Fa Cup Final in May 2016 after their final league match of season against Bournemouth after missing out on top 4 so Van Gaal was telling the truth

while it is true that he isn't the best man for the job, but that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate his work as a Man United fan. Under his time, I like what he did with the youth, there were so many youngsters brought up by him, and he did attract big names and youth prospects to come to us. In short, he was pulling us to the right direction, but unfortunately he was not pulling fast enough to convince the board of directors to keep him.
how the board of directors let him go in the end was a disgrace, the man got us the first FA cup since Sir Alex, yet they just sacked him days after he won the title.

He was mugged off by the players and some just weren't good enough end of. Nobody can say he shouldn't have signed di maria. He won player of the season for Real that year in a team that won the CL and also had Ronaldo with 50 odd goals in it. That means your ok at football. Didn't work out at utd sadly but a brilliant player 👏

I liked LVG but this was at a point where United were just getting worse and worse by the day. 2 wins in the last 8, scraping past Watford with a 90th minute own goal, played poor football, we'd just lost back to back games against Bournemouth and bloody Norwich. The media were speculating that his time was probably up there, especially after getting knocked out of the champions league after drawing the single easiest group in the competition's history. On a side note, we lost that game against Stoke he talked about, 2-0. Things were not going well for United at that point. The media have the right to criticise.

LVG was not backed by board... neither Jose.
United had good managers but they needed time.
LVG took Netherlands to semi final in world cup and lost in penalties.
He was a good manager..gave Rashford debut... brought good players.
      Same happened with Jose.
Hope Ole gets his time and bring back good old days.

LVG would have won the premiere league if he had 4 transfer windows, but obviously united were more interested in commercial business. The club that has never had problems signing players, played with smalling as a starter for about 300 games. Ridiculous to blame LVG for the stupidity in the backroom.
