From cutting up his favorite pair of ready-to-wear shorts, to sewing his first pair of wax print jams, to forcing him to take a matching outfit picture, come on along as I wreck stuff...
Spoiler alert: I am now in love with cutting up RTW to make a pattern-especially when the garment can’t be found in stores anymore. These fit WAY better than any men's sewing pattern I’ve tried!

That worked really well! I loved a) the point about cutting on the seams, so much easier than unpicking and add your own s.a. b) the point that they fit better than store bought. I'm gonna make patterns of anything I can get my skinny husband to throw away, because he is hard to buy clothes for.
Yessss! He was finally ready to give up these shorts, which is what made me do it. Am now eyeing everything old and ratty that he’s holding onto 🤣
Cutting right on the seam really worked well. There is some SA left on the pieces, but it’s easy to see what should be cut away! Ain’t nobody got time for unpicking RTW!
Those are the greatest! You did a great job of redoing a pattern from an existing garment. So much fun too.

Marvelous!! I’ve never seen this method of copying a garment before- the only drawback I can see is that you lose the original. But then, you *do* have the pattern!! (I am here for *all* the matching outfits!!) ❤️🌈😁
That's what kept me from cutting them up; what if after all that, it doesn't work?! Now that I know it does, I'll do a simpler, detailed video how-to. Just gotta find a good candidate 😉 (and I'll tell Rob we have another matching-outfits vote)

So far he likes cargo shorts I've made and he's a masters over 50 track and field runner. I've made him bags for his track spikes. I'm hoping he'll let me make more stuff. Absolutely gorgeous shorts! And model! And seamstress! 😍😍😍 My hubby also has issues finding trousers that fit him well around the crotch area. I started making him a pair...over a year ago😒 it’s actually quite a difficult pattern, that’s my excuse!🤪 Thank you for sharing Marcy!😘🤗❤️

Fantastic! The first thing I ever sewed way back in high school days was jams for myself. Great explanation of how to stitch the crotch seam. I could have used that 35 years ago when my first attempt looked more like a skirt than a bifurcated garment.
Also, I'd always thought that Rob was on the shy side but turns out he's a bit of a ham when inspired. Especially with those amazing shorts!
Jams as a first project?! Baller move! I think I learned that crotch seam trick from an old Amy Butler book, In Stitches. It’s how she sews up her pajama bottoms!
And, oh yeah....Rob can turn it on....when he *wants* to.

Somewhere between 6:00 and 7:00 minutes my head was spinning so I took a break. Did a few simple sketches of Virtruvian man to ease my brain and came back for the big finish. Not disappointed. Mad skills and great fun even for a civilian.
That is HILARIOUS as that is exactly where I tapped out when making these! I took my 5 day break right after cutting the fashion fabric! Maybe I should sketch a quick MC Escher next time....
No to matching outfits! lol But you did a fantastic job matching the curve of the stripes flowing from one side to the other! It's like a roadmap from the knee to the hip.

I love these dresses on you! What did you use for the straps on the third dress? It almost looks like beads. I try to mix up my garments with something unexpected. I’d love something like that strap. I didn’t see it in the pattern/print of he main fabric. I love the ruffles and tiers added with just the perfect lines for each look. Beautiful💯🎯👗💎🧵✅💯💝
Just simple pom pom trim! But yes, I was pretty stoked that it ended up looking like beads. Which reminds me, I've been meaning to add it to the hem!

I ordered a Jean jacket from Poshmark cuz I don’t have one at the moment, to do the mesh thingy, I’m actually, (fingers crossed) going to enter it in a challenge, (I’ll tag you on the gram when I post it for sure!) with some mesh I have, it’s my can’t cut into it fabric.
