What a fun video!! I haven’t used a commercial pattern for years! (I usually draft my own,) but then again, my philosophy has always been, use the best fabric and the simplest construction!! Hi, Rob!!❤️❤️
I am still crushing on both of you. I am learning and remembering so many things. I want one of everything you make. You are a natural born leader and teacher! Thank you for being you and two.
Fun and wonderful as usual. Years ago I had a drapery workroom and I can agree sewing is less about sitting at the machine and running thread through it than cutting and ironing. You need to do all three correctly. Hope you have a great Valentine's weekend.
I love everything you showed on this video. You are inspirational in the sewing community. Your passion towards sewing is beautiful Robe is so so funny and your love towards each other is BELLISIMO peace and love till next time XXXXX
I am so with you on the dress, so easy to just pop on (or take off!) Love your style, love your channel and I'm really feeling that we could be sisters from another mother (because my dad had an "I'm not going to veer from this one look, ever" style too.) My dad's style was found in the 50's with James Dean (a fellow Indiana boy). I'm like, give me some color, give me a fun long dress (or a long coat, I shop a lot of charity shops for those and change the buttons or add embelishments to those). Sewing is a fast disappearing art and you keep it fun and funky!
hey sewsis! Thanks for the love, fun and funky is what I aim for 💗 Well, at least our Dads landed in some good style ruts 🤣 My dad is usually in technicolor, this is by far the classiest Negroni in his Charlie Brown closet!

I've even upgraded my machine to a heavy duty one for thicker materials. I can't wait for all the upcoming patterns that you have lined up (maybe we'll see that one for Rob😉). Thanks for sharing🥰!
You’re so welcome! And if you’ve mastered blankets, you’ve got straight line stitching in your corner, garments are a stone’s throw away. A garment is just a blanket for your body 😁
Hi! Now that I've moved across the country from Portland to Toronto, I am finally ready to settle back into sewing. I've missed watching your videos and learning to sew from you!
I don't have that Vogue pattern but I think I would like to see a video on how to turn it into a robe all the same. :-) I was thinking which patterns I love and would recommend to others and the one that sprang to mind was Scroop Patterns Mahina Cardigan. I've only made it once so far but I'm definitely making more once I get some good natural fibre fabric for the purpose (my first one is 50% cotton 50% polyester and that's sadly a bit too much polyester for me; but I still love it). It has a unique sizing system, nice detailed instructions, and it's just such a fun and stylish yet pretty easy to sew garment - and it's one of those garments that can be taken in all sorts of directions with different fabrics.
@@handmadeharriells I struggled more with the Ngaio blouse which is still on the naughty pile... but that was largely because I'm very much between sizes and I decided to handsew it while stuck away from my machine and all my projects in the first lockdowns - not the best idea I've had, but I was going a bit crazy. :D In Scroop's favour, the patterns are very dutifully notched which actually helped me catch some mistakes in my inbetween-sizes handsewing-geared pattern cutting! I have a couple more and I need to get cracking on making them; it's one of the many things I didn't get around to in the past two years. I love how Leimomi puts in such details like which direction to sew the seams in, and various little tips and explanations that mean you may actually learn something while sewing. Not all the styles are something I can see myself wearing, but I still think in terms of commercial patterns that aren't Burda, Scroop is the most represented in my collection (followed by Itch to Stitch) - especially because so many of the other pattern companies these days keep churning out patterns for stretch knits which is kind of the opposite of the direction I want (and even need) to be taking my wardrobe!
Hilarious video! I made the Ogden cami for the first time last year and love it. I love how you make everything a maxi length. That's something I never do 🤷🏾♀️
I have been sewing a lot during Covid, mostly upcycles and refashioned stuff. But that kimono coat was tantalizing 😮. So, right after watching your video, I ran to my local fabric store and bought the pattern….eeeck $33.95 in Canada . Luckily, I have a membership so I got a bit of a discount😅. So I would love a sew along on the Vogue 1493! And thank you for asking …the sleeves are interesting! I have piles of thrifted fabrics to play with …happy Valentines to you and hubby ❤️
YIKES that price! I was stunned to find out you can only get big 4 on deep discount here in the US. I oughta start some sort of pattern run for Canadian sewists 🤣 I’ll try and work up a 1493 video, at the very least, the tricky parts!
I know I'm a bit late but Happy Valentines Day! I love all your tutorials and sew a longs. And your tips and tools! I've been seeing on and off for years but you have not only inspired me but busted my confidence. You are as fabulous teacher and make. Everything fun. Thank you and God bless you and Rob.

Nice patterns, u guys are hilariously funny together love 💕 watching U , hav a great Valentines Day 🥰👍 Make Rob his suit, he’s such a good sport n helper 🤩🤣👍
This one sent me flying off into tangent land! Went over to the site to check out the cami, starred looking at their pants! Finally wandered back to let you know this was a fun vid!
I bought some embroidered netting to make my very own window pane jacket! I look forward to wearing it this spring, summer and fall. And the outfit you showed patterns for would be fun! And the kantha quilted full length jacket is to. die. for!
ah Debra that’s excellent, cutting out those windowpanes is really such a good time! I need to make another kantha quilt jacket, it’s been too long since I murdered a quilt 😅🤣
Phew! Rob's face got RED there at the end... Don't set the building on fire with all that heat! I love all of these beautiful patterns, but being a super-extra fluffy person, I am so scared of trying to make clothing for myself, because I am intimidated. I have gotten creative and a little adventurous when DIY-ing costumes for my kids for Halloween. And I got pretty proficient as those dang 😷, but I will never regret making masks, because that is how I found your channel and fell in love with the idea that I actually could learn to sew! Thank you again for your great encouragement. As a DUDE sewist it always bothers me how little there is for us to make from commercial patterns. I get it that there is less of a need but what about those of us that are a bit EXTRA, we are left to our own play and creations.
Heyyyy Professor! Yeah, there’s just not enough out there for the Extra dude. But I like the way you describe it leaving you to your own "play", which is exactly how the Extra Dude would view it!
Hi. Just found your channel. Love the V1493 pattern you made. Beautiful. I would say I am an advanced beginner in sewing and would love any how to videos you would like to make. I really enjoy the video. Thank you.
I really liked that long coat you made from your quilt. Now my question is will you be making a video. On how you did that stiching on your you quilt coat? Thank you for sharing this video. Everytime i watch one of your videos. I get really inspired even though im just a beginner.
Thanks Maria! So, that coat is made from a Kantha quilt, which already has those long colorful running stitches throughout the quilt. I just cut the pattern pieces out of the quilt 💗 I hope you’re sewing along with us!
You are so fun and educational! I really enjoyed this video and your information. I don’t know if you have more than one video on embellishing Jean jackets. I’ll check it out because I saw one video on the subject and enjoyed it as well. Keep doing you!
Good morning, Marcy, the last year years I have been quilting, Now, I want to go back to sewing clothes. Since you can change a pattern, I attempted to change a pattern, too. Instead of making an A-line skirt with four pieces, I place both pieces on the fold, thought I measured right, but when I sewed the pieces, one piece was shorter than the other piece. What did I do wrong. Ut was Butterick pattern 6742. A simple pattern, just think I can change patterns like you change patterns. Thanks for any light you can shine on my dilemma.
Hi Kathy, I wonder if there were multiple hem lines on the pattern pieces? Like, View a length, view b length? I’d double check that. The cutting lines for multiple sizes can also get hairy at the hemline, I generally cut along the bottom line even if it’s not the size I’m cutting. Also, when you place the a line on the fold, you might have to adjust for the curve of the hem, which is spread out over 2 pieces now instead of 4. I hope that helps, it’s a little tough without seeing the actual pattern pieces! My best advice when doing a hack like this is give yourself insurance at the hem. You can always level the hem when you’re done sewing! 💗
@@handmadeharriells Marcy, thank you for your information. Take care of yourself and Mr. Rob. (I love him, too). Sorry, but you have to SHARE him with your audience!
one of these days I really want to make a denim jacket like that! I've always envied yours! If you do another coffee video, can we please know more about those microphones? I'm very curious.
oh the ones we’re wearing? absolutely! Unfortunately one is cutting out when we’re both on camera….which is the exact thing this set is supposed to make *easier* 🙄. So I’ll give the skinny good or bad!
I love that quilt that you used for the jacket and dress. Couldn't understand what you called the quilt. Is this something that can be purchased somewhere or was it a thrift store find? Would love to get one. Thanks!
Gah! 2022 is my year to tackle jeans. I was debating the Birkin Flares and one other and went with... The other 😓 now I feel I made the wrong choice. OR I should just do both. It is the year of jeans???
I went to the somethingdelightful link to check the price for the tulip jacket, and it was on sale for only $5.99 through 2/21! Needless to say, it’s on its way to my house right now.
You were very close, here’s how Koos van den Akker is pronounced in Dutch: Koos = like nose with a k, or even cozy minus the zee sound at the end. van = v a n (a like the a in what, want) den = like den. 😄 Akker = same A as in van, k-ker, like curve minus ve. Hope you don’t mind me Dutch-splaining, I just like to challenge myself making Dutch pronunciation easy for English speakers.
Love your videos! I would like to see more styles that look good on those of us who need to lose some weight. I can't wear the low cut styles because too much bosom. I like loose fitting clothes.
I highly, highly recommend checking out the Curvy Sewing Collective website and Facebook group, if you're not already familiar with them (which from the sound of your comment I'm guessing you're not). Excellent resource and source of inspiration, and as someone whose curves are mostly bone structure, I must say that is true in general, not just for plus size sewists! The first trick that springs to mind is to look for patterns that already contain bust cup sizes.
excellent recs from @beth12svist ! You might also check out Cashmerette, she takes bosoms and curves into great consideration. And the founder, Jenny, is also a great human 💗

one of these days I really want to make a denim jacket like that!
Just love you guys
Love you Marcy
Yes you did!!! You TOTALLY said that!! 🤭
😆😆😆Yeah I really did 🤣
I love that quilt that you used for the jacket and dress. Couldn't understand what you called the quilt. Is this something that can be purchased somewhere or was it a thrift store find? Would love to get one. Thanks!
Ah that’s a “kantha quilt," give it a google and you’ll find many different kinds (and prices)! They’re made from scraps and remnants of saris 💗
I would love to see you make any of the commercial patterns. I have bought them but to terrified to make them..I feel inept...
ah Rhonda, that’s no good! we’ll get you into those envelopes!
Gah! 2022 is my year to tackle jeans. I was debating the Birkin Flares and one other and went with... The other 😓 now I feel I made the wrong choice. OR I should just do both. It is the year of jeans???
I think that’s a clear case of do BOTH. After all you need a couple different styles of jeans!
Great suggestions!!
Thanks Tashanna! Really some of my favorites (well, one’s more my Dad’s favorite, he has like a dozen now 😅)
I went to the somethingdelightful link to check the price for the tulip jacket, and it was on sale for only $5.99 through 2/21! Needless to say, it’s on its way to my house right now.
SCORE! We should put out a public alert 😅
You were very close, here’s how Koos van den Akker is pronounced in Dutch:
Koos = like nose with a k, or even cozy minus the zee sound at the end.
van = v a n (a like the a in what, want)
den = like den. 😄
Akker = same A as in van, k-ker, like curve minus ve.
Hope you don’t mind me Dutch-splaining, I just like to challenge myself making Dutch pronunciation easy for English speakers.
this is EXCELLENTLY put. And I love knowing how to pronounce from a pro! I may have to test out my accent again in a ☕️☕️video 👍🏽
@@beth12svist thank you so much!
@@47retta You're welcome!
excellent recs from @beth12svist ! You might also check out Cashmerette, she takes bosoms and curves into great consideration. And the founder, Jenny, is also a great human 💗
@@handmadeharriells thank you!
Yes please do Vogue 1493 as an open robe.
ah you mean the dress, right? So many asked for it so it’s coming!
@@handmadeharriells yes the dress
Love Rob's tie. Where did you find the pattern? Is it a self drafted pattern?
that’s an old Vogue pattern, I believe….and he only wore it once. With much arm twisting!
Fanfilppingtasic video ❤️❤️💕
