Yes, 2nd this. Norum is a beast. He has some solo material and also a member of Don Dokken’s band initially. I did like Kee Marcello’s playing as well, who replaced John in Europe. I just didn’t like the songs as well overall, but Kee was a very fluid lead player. Norum had that aggressive attack which is what made him a great choice for Don Dokken, knowing he was going to be compared to George Lynch.

Europe is still making music and touring although their sound has changed from the 80’s music that you here in these videos. They are sounding more like Deep Purple/Rainbow now days. Other great songs of theirs that you should check out are “Superstitious”, “Let the Good Times Rock”, “Prisoners in Paradise”, “Open Your Heart” and “I’ll Cry For You”.
My recommendation is their third most successful single "Rock The Night" (1986).. The song was released in two different versions, in 1985 as a single from the soundtrack to the Swedish film and in 1986 as the second international single from the album The Final Countdown. The original 1985 release has a rawer metallic hard rock sound than the more polished 1986 from The Final Countdown. The second version reached the top 10 in the charts. Other big hits are "Superstitious" and "Cherokee".
I don't know if it was the first time I heard it, but the first time I remember hearing it. I was 14, and in a confirmation camp out in the Swedish archipelago. Fall of 1986 or spring 1987. One of the leaders had his car stereo on, and all of a sudden Carrie started playing, and suddenly a whole bunch of girls rushed to the car and wanted to hear it, because it was their favorite song. I must have heard it more times than I can remember after that.
They are still going, and in the recent years turned into a really convincing Hard Rock band, with epic, melodic, but also very heavy songs! (A bit Led Zeppelin / Deep Purple 'ish - I guess that's the kind of music they grew up with and always wanted to play) For their older, harder songs e.g.: Last Look at Eden War of Kings The Beast But you have still some of their classics waiting, like Rock the Night Superstitious Ready or not
Other great Europe songs are "Rock The Night", "Cherokee", "Superstitious" and "Prisoners In Paradise". The band is still together touring and releasing new music. Songs from their newer era I would suggest "Last Look At Eden", "New Love In Town", "War Of Kings" and "Walk On Earth".
Nice one Amber & Jay. Europe one of my fave bands growing up, JT has an amazing voice. Open Your Heart, Dreamer, Rock The Night, Ninja, Prisoners In Paradise, Halfway to heaven.... lots of great tracks.
Joey Tempest is still and has been the lead singer of Europe. They have never had another singer. I believe all the original band members are still in the band except for Mic Michaeli. Gotta do "Rock the Night" next. Very cool rocking song!
Rock the Night (1986) Cherokee (1986) Superstitious (1988) Let the Good Times Rock (1988) Open Your Heart (1988) Sign of the Times (1989) Prisoners in Paradise (1991)
The beginning of this with the piano made me think of a song I completely forgot about. Music Box Dancer by Frank Mills. It is instrumental piano that made the hits of the late 70's. I just listened to it again and it all came right back. You need to hear that one!
Many hits from Europe since the mid 80’s poured out from them .. I know this I graduated 91 .. and my JR. High school years proved this .. going back to 1986 is when I really chose them as my 1st ever favorite band !! And I had long hair then .. lol
I saw these guys open for Def Leppard in the summer of 88 at Cayuga County Fairgrounds. It was so hot, people were passing out and had to be handed over the wall by the stage. By the time I got to the front it started pouring and cooled it off so I got to watch a good part of the show right up front. Such a fun show.
I also saw them open for Def Leppard in 88 at Orange county Fair grounds and it was an amazing concert. They also had 38 Special there as well. I too was right in the front from the beginning. Though many tried, I would not let anyone take my spot, lol. I Couldn't get any closer. Joey Tempest face was just beautiful and flawless 😊What a great night!
Written by Joey Tempest and Mic Michael. They are the lead singer and keyboardist, respectively. Great 👍 song 🎵 This song will make Carrie Underwood blush ☺ So funny 😆 L 🤣L Suggested video 📹: Europe 🇪🇺 performs Love Chaser.
Europe is so underrated and are still delivering great music! Try "new love in town". Joey wrote it in just one night for his newborn baby. Or "in my time", that is a tribute to John Norums (guitarist) wife who died suddenly from cystic growth in her brain. And no, Joey Tempest is still the lead singer of the band.
Cherokee is the next song yall should do. As a girl in growing up in the late 80's , we love power ballads. We lived for them from our favorite hairbands. Power ballads are amazing amd you get fantastic guitar solos in them
I was one of the "cool" metal heads back then and it was ok to like Europe's first two albums, Europe and Wings Of Tomorrow, they were heavier and had a Deep Purple kind of vibe. John Norum is one hell of a guitarist, I would put him up against almost any metal guitarist from that era.
@@johnk.2508 I vaguely remember this about Europe. After those first two albums, apparently their sound became too "commercial" for the true metal faithful, ha. I kind of get it and kind of don't - should have been okay to just like what you like. (Now watch for me to make a critical comment of my own on some other band/song that it "should" be okay to like, LOL.)
@@nancysmith8626 As far as I was concerned I didn't like Europe's later albums because they weren't hard enough for my taste, I didn't care whether they were cool or not, heck, I was (and still am) a metal head who likes Barry Manilow and Broadway music. 🤔
When this came out I was shocked 😳. It was so different from the "other" song they did. This is truly an incredible vocal performance by Joey. Too bad this song was over -shadowed by the Final Countdown. They were quickly forgotten in the states. I really had no idea, at the time it came out, it was Europe. I always thought it was Warrant.
Joey is one pretty man !!! 🤣 Their recent 🎶 is still great especially their song "WALK THE EARTH" - great song !! I kinda keep up with Europe and I haven't heard that about Joey exiting the band. 🤔 They were one of my favorite bands in the 80s and I've seen them stick together as just a few years ago. They are very underrated.
To be honest as a person who was a teen in the 80's the late 80's hair band days really urked me lol...but I did enjoy some of the power ballads of the day and this is one of them. I really loved the punk/new wave era of the early to mid 80's but was sooooooooooooooo glad when the hair band days of the late 80's was knocked out of the park by the alt rock take over of the early to mid 90's. It was such a relief to hear Nirvana and Soundgarden and Pearl Jam etc absolutely turn the whole music scene upside down. Love you two and great reaction.
Joey was never out of the band, the whole band took a hiatus in '92 and then later reunited to release their comeback album "Start from the Dark" in 2003, and they've been together ever since. They've been together and have released more albums now than they did in the 80's which in my opinion means they can't be defined as an 80's band. I personally think they have only gotten better since they reunited in 2003, they've released six albums since then each one better than the last. I think their best two albums are "War of Kings" and "Bag of Bones" they have some amazing masterpiece songs in there to react to!
Europe is a Swedish rock band formed in Upplands Väsby in Sweden in 1979, by frontman Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson, and drummer Tony Reno.
All the original band members are still touring to this day. John Norum left for a few albums but has been with them for sometime now. Their Wings of Tomorrow album was FIRE! It was just before the Final Countdown album came out. Ya might try Stormwind or Dreamer.
OK, not ORIGINAL members since both drummer Ian Haugland and keyboard player Mic Michaeli debuted on the third album. But if you say the classic members, you'd be right.
For those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s going to school dances, power ballads hold a special and nostalgic place in our hearts.

My favorite song of theirs was never released for airplay. It was off this same record, and was called "Ninja".
Joey has never been fired from the band….
Joey Tempest - vocals, acoustic guitar, backing guitar, keyboards (1979-present)
John Norum - guitar, backing vocals (1979-1986, 1999, 2004-present)
John Levén - bass guitar (1981-present)
Mic Michaeli - keyboards, backing vocals, backing guitar (1984-present)
Ian Haugland - drums, backing vocals (1984-present)
Former members

Marcel Jacob - bass guitar (1981; died 2009)
Tony Reno - drums (1979-1984)
Kee Marcello - guitar, backing vocals (1986-1992, 1999)
this is so beautiful and one my fave love rock songs of all time
I don't know if it was the first time I heard it, but the first time I remember hearing it.
Excellent song One of the greatest looking guy on the planet
They are still going, and in the recent years turned into a really convincing Hard Rock band, with epic, melodic, but also very heavy songs! (A bit Led Zeppelin / Deep Purple 'ish - I guess that's the kind of music they grew up with and always wanted to play)
For their older, harder songs e.g.:
Last Look at Eden
War of Kings
The Beast
But you have still some of their classics waiting, like
Rock the Night
Superstitious
Ready or not
I think this is the best song they've ever done.
Such an underrated song. My favorite by Europe.
Joey has the pipes that you rarely ever see in that era and genre of music. Its a very small handful. The guy still has it in 2022.
Jay, those ballads were a good marketing strategy- they brought the girls to the concerts
Joey Tempest is still and has been the lead singer of Europe. They have never had another singer. I believe all the original band members are still in the band except for Mic Michaeli. Gotta do "Rock the Night" next. Very cool rocking song!
Mic Michaeli is still in the band. The entire "The final countdown" lineup is active as Europe today.
@@erikthompson619 yeah. I know they are still active and releasing new music still to this day.
Awesome group, awesome song, love the reaction!
Beautiful song beautiful reacction 💪
Rock the Night (1986)
Cherokee (1986)
Superstitious (1988)
Let the Good Times Rock (1988)
Open Your Heart (1988)
Sign of the Times (1989)
Prisoners in Paradise (1991)
Yeah! That's a winner of that era. The voice, the look... 😍
And I had long hair then .. lol
Sweden's finest
Prisoners in paradise -Europe
This is Europe Greatest tune BY FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joey Tempest face was just beautiful and flawless 😊What a great night!
awesome song. thank God i got to see this live.
Written by Joey Tempest and Mic Michael. They are the lead singer and keyboardist, respectively. Great 👍 song 🎵
This song will make Carrie Underwood blush ☺ So funny 😆 L 🤣L
Suggested video 📹: Europe 🇪🇺 performs Love Chaser.
Just awesome brother!👍🎶🎵
Love the groove! 💞💓💖
I love watching you work. Super cool 😎
Such an epic song..
Europe is great! Love you guys!
That was beautiful guys
Europe is so underrated and are still delivering great music! Try "new love in town". Joey wrote it in just one night for his newborn baby. Or "in my time", that is a tribute to John Norums (guitarist) wife who died suddenly from cystic growth in her brain.
And no, Joey Tempest is still the lead singer of the band.
Cherokee is the next song yall should do.
As a girl in growing up in the late 80's , we love power ballads. We lived for them from our favorite hairbands. Power ballads are amazing amd you get fantastic guitar solos in them
Amber, I know you love the drums, so I have to suggest "Cherokee" by Europe for you to check out next...you'll both love it!
Joey Tempest was never kicked out! It was John Norum, the guitarist, that left of his own free will! Kee Marcello replaced him
Another group I love thanks y’all 😊Amber you are definitely going to love it ❤
Ah, Hairband power ballads at its best. In honor of the movie “Weird”, please react to Weird Al Yankovich
We definitely need some Weird Al!! Please
Joey Tempest wrote almost all of their songs!!!
Back in the day all the "cool" metalheads hated Europe, but I secretly loved this song.
@@johnk.2508 I think most people have more diverse music tastes than we may give them credit for. You definitely do!
Great track….Rarely hear this as it’s normally The Final Countdown played
Great Reaction! I Love Europe! Keep the videos coming fam!👍❤
You've done Europe, now do Asia. "Heat of the Moment" or "Only Will Tell" to start with...
Yes! I've been dying for you to get to this one. This song is such fire! 🔥
John the bass player wasn´t the original member?
Definitely one of the best power ballads of the 80’zzzzz!!!! LOVE IT!!!! 🤘🏽❤️🤘🏽❤️🤘🏽❤️🤘🏽❤️
