I'm very sad the younger actresses are gone, but I must admit this looks like we're stepping into the real deal. And that's saying something when the first 5 episodes were so good
An ASOIAF wedding without at least a death is considered a dull affair. I loved this episode! So much going down, Laenor loosing his lover, Criston loosing his shit, Alicent finally growing some brain cells, so much. Daemon is a right royal c*** to do that to Rhea. And poor Viserys, my man is just wasting away. Someone give him something for the pain and let him die. This show continues to impress since episode 4. Excellent television.
They talk about it a bit in the post episode discussion, but imo this only reinforced Daemon's chaotic grey nature. Technically, she paralyzed herself. Was he going back to kill her or just depressingly following Viserys' orders to go back home to his wife? We don't know because she judged him like everyone else, freaked out, and broke her own neck. Daemon looked like he was going to leave her there because he honestly didn't care, but then she chirped and got finished off. Obviously, murder is wrong, but if youre a Daemon fan you can chalk it up as a mercy killing haha (that also serves his own ends)
Thank you Milly and Emily for absolutely stunning performances. Can’t wait for next week, as we are edging ever closer to the Dance of Dragons probably in the second series.
Emily Carey gave one of the strongest performances this season and really set the bar high for Alicent. Both girls were amazing, but Emily really won me over this last episode. Both girls have such a bright future ahead.
actually i think both older actresses were casted first before the younger once were casted at all. i know its definitely that way with emma as the older rhaneyra. she was one of the first to be casted
Thank you Emily and Milly for amazing performances! 10 year time lapse, new plotlines and interesting to see character development. Finally Vhagar comes to the scene. I think that grand maester Mellos died offscreen between ep5-ep6. Now there is a new maester in the small council table. More developments between House Strong family members.
I’m loving how we are seeing people look as treacherous and traitorous like GOT Characters but then get to see later there’s actually pretty sensible reasons as to why they’re being made. Like Hightower, wanting to protect his line, but then just wanting his daughter and her Family survive or “Queen that never was” not wanting her son to have a throne if means he will likely die despite her spite for herself not being given the throne she rightly deserved.
Otto set his own daughter up and put her children in danger by overreaching in the first place. He destabilized the realm and the royal family for his own gain.
@@GewalfofWivia Otto has stated many times that the realm would not accept Rhaenaries a women as Air to the 7. This tradition being broken by foreign conquerors would bring about a civil war in his mind. He’s always been forward about his plans to Alicent since the line of succession was broken. For him he’s never wanted to be, Hand, just like Ned Stark, and John Aerryn as per custom it seems A kings hand has never been a position men have sought ( “The king shits and the hand Wipes” )and had always been something bestowed regardless of the candidates say. Otto, being hand to the predecessor of the foreign conquerers breaking 1,000s of years of tradition causing civil war would not be something Otto would want as it would likely mean the end for House Hightower. So given this he’d rather have his House course correcting House Targaryen and unilaterally avoiding war through marriage to his. Also remember as we’ve seen as soon as a another House takes over the thrown the small council often is either killed or removed so best case the hand relinquished of his position is sent home and his House is immediately no longer in any political power under the crown but is held responsible for all the decisions done by the crown, The hand while in his position has no army or clutch of men in the kingdom, Hightower has no assets that carry after being hand, marriage is the only way Hightower can foresee to save His daughter and House Hightower after he is gone.
@@lukewhatidid1735 And? The King couldn't make heirs with Laena or what? Otto overreached, period. The King weded Alicent as he wanted, but Valeryons still needed to be placated, so with no other choice of match, it was Rhaenyra who gets the strongest house as an ally instead of the "male heir", so now the realm is more evenly split and calling the ensuing war disastrous is a major understatement.
@@lukewhatidid1735 Also Otto LOVED being Hand. He is NOTHING without this position. He is *Ser* Otto Hightower, a second son who stands to inherit nothing. The position of Hand is a great honor and a position of immense power that is highly sought after, unlike what you seem to think. You gave the example of Ned, I give you the examples of Daemon, Tywin and Tyrion. Not to mention all the other Hands whose posting brought great prestige and benefit to their persons and their house.
@@lukewhatidid1735 And lastly, no, losing a second son's posting as Hand, or not having their blood in the royal family, wouldn't doom the house Hightower, an old Westorisi line and sovereign of the Citadel. They are still a powerful and useful vassal, just like the Lannisters. But even Jason Lannister, Lord of the wealthiest house with a formidable fortress, and so conceited as to be described as "that man's pride has pride", only reached for a marriage with Rhaenyra when he thought she wouldn't be heir. That should give you an idea about *SER* Otto setting his daughter up to be queen and mother to the heir.
Such a poetic end to episode 5. The rat feasting on the blood and the rotting scene, the weirwood and the close suicide, and the dreary wedding reminiscent of the red wedding. Every shot, music, editing and lighting is out in such a perfect placement. Everything I loved in GOT is in here with I daresay better cinematography and atmosphere. The gory medieval realism is revealed in cinematic poetry. HOTD has redeemed ASOIAF like a damn phoenix from the ashes.
I agree all the way. So much cinematography and realism sunk into one episode. Totally getting red wedding vibes! Spacing, positioning, aggression, mindset, playing in the present. Its all there!. The philosophy is REAL. Milo did really well this episode. Some dirty lines and looks that made me quiver in pleasure and fear at the same time. He WILL rise to the top. #Itsmorbintime#Itsmilotime#sex#greatness#borntoride#wetwillem.
sucks that we won’t see more of Molly & Emily. they’re both super talented & did incredible on the show! alsoo, I literally can’t wait to see the next five episodes ahhh
Wow, just wow! This episode 5, this is Game of Thrones, this George R. R. Martin level of writing. The dialogues, the characters and acting, the suspense and whole feeling of this episode are just astonishing. It really reminds me of how good GoT used to be.
That's what happens when people's attention span has drastically deteriorated since 2010. People don't want to watch something if there's not action and violence every 10 minutes
@@reddevildk8641 Correct me if I'm wrong, but the books this show is based off of (Fire and Blood) are essentially a history book. So, unlike ASOIAF, it wouldn't make sense for HotD to have a slower pace in order to show every step of the story. Instead, it should only focus on the main events in Targaryen history, therefore the time skips (aka faster pace).
This show is really impressive. I was wondering about other casts but absolutely they'll play well. Now,every week there is a show we have been waiting for.Cool.Thanks, everyone especially George R.R.
Episode 5 is the best episode so far. For me it's the episode that really really captured the golden days of Game of Thrones, something the first 4 episode lacked. I love all the political intrigue, sexual tension and violence. As we welcome Emma and Olivia, we also have to give credit to Milly and Emily for giving their best as young Rhaenyra and Alicent.
Alicent's entry in the green gown was spectacular. I thought I would hate her but it seems like the choice between these two sides won't be so obvious and I love it.
I LOVED the entry of the Velaryons, the way they scored it, and the costumes were mindblowing. They looked like such a powerful family, and the Targaryans in return looked fractured and weak.
The entrance was great, made me hate Alicent even more honestly, Emily did a stellar job, from an innocent girl to a queen who cares only for her own lineage. She gave me Cersei vibes.
What a time jump. Milly, thank you for portraying young Rhaenyra, it was an awesome experience. The cast did an amzing job. Congrats on a incredible half season
Rhaenyra’s oldest son will be 17 by the end of the season. His actor looks older than Milly. Alicent’s three oldest children are also being played by actors who are and look way older than Milly and Emma. Sorry, this story was never about Rhaenyra and Alicent will they were young women. The real story doesn’t start until they are in their 30s. Alicent will even be a grandma! There will be new younger female characters like Baela and Heleana.
The fifth episode was absolutely brilliant. And it's finally happening that we get to see two more important dragons in the next episode as evident from this teaser - Vhagar and Sunfyre
@@miraniseini2931 the show is an extension of game of thrones. I'm obsessed with GOT but I would never compare the 2. HOTD has revived my obsession and that's good enough for me
Given the fact that the most interesting parts of this story haven’t happened yet and it’s already this good…I think this show could be better than GoT if they can keep up with good dialogue
I welcome the changes. Rhaenyra apparently need to look tougher and authoritative. The young Rhaenyra is great but for the young role. the dance will be cruel from both side and I'm glad they make the adaptation.
This show is basically putting GoT + Succession + The Crown in a blender and getting the best bloody drink possible. I love it damn much. Can't wait to see Emma and Olivia bring the fire next ep.
Milly & Emily did a wonderful job as Young Rhaenyra & Young Alicent, now let's all welcome Emma & Olivia as they carry on with the roles. Hopefully they keep up with the awesome performances 👏
The show did a great job starting out the all characters in their younger age. It added layers to their identity, especially those ones that will eventually become antagonist, like Criston Cole or Alicent. In a way they were able to humanize them and show the audience that their future self is more than just characters that are inherently evil or holds so much malice. That their grudges and scheming came from a place of depth and painful experience. That's why Martin said he likes how the many characters are gray in HOTD. Unlike with Geoffrey where his character was thrown to be hated from the very beginning without so much as a solid foundation, all he was was just pure hate and evil. He was only two dimensional. I'm so astonished with how everything is turning out. Writing, directing, acting and everything else is amazing.
I know it's pure perfection. I felt betrayed in the Game of Thrones, because I expected this level of writing, but wow I think the House of Dragons excels and flies higher than the Game of Thrones.
@@stellarkym I am living in fcking korea my friend, so i dont wear it, i have it. And what did you accomplish in life except for having a kpop fan account? 🤔🤭
It’s amazing how the show keeps getting better and better. The ‘Green’ wedding didn’t disappoint. Can’t wait to see the next episode but I will miss those two young actresses ❤️
The Criston Cole part didn't make too much sense though. He went ape far too quickly, and then was left to walk free. I found that quite immersion breaking personally. Laenor would have called for his head immediately, and got it right then and there.
These past 2 episodes were beautiful. If they can get the time skip right and deliver another masterpiece this first season will be have surpassed my expectations.
I didn't pay much attention to Alicent in the beginning, but that entrance along with the "Hello Stepdaughter" gave away pure Cersei vibes🔥🔥🔥 The game is on
The older actresses were hired first and they were cast to be the female leads of the entire series. People need to accept it. The main story takes place when Rhaenyra and Alicent are too old to be played by actresses in their early 20s who look like teens. Rhaenyra’s oldest son will be 17 by the end of the season! His actor looks the same age as Milly.
No one is "not accepting it". People are just sad to see them go since they did such an excellent job as the younger versions of the lead roles. Everyone knew this was going to happen.
@@hand2handmc I didn't quite understand that scene Was he taken back due to how beautiful she looked Or the fact that she interrupted him Or that she's worn green, the rebel colours of Hightower
@@ramlal1567 So, in the book Alicent is known for wearing green dresses, there was nothing about it being Oldtown's war color. During the other episodes, Alicent had been wearing black and red dresses to match the Targaryen colors. Viserys was put off because she was deliberately late, interrupted his speech, and was wearing green.
As close to utter perfection as utter perfection gets. Okay, Vhagar is HUGE. Look how small Laena is on the back of her. Wow. For me, the dragons are a secondary attraction to this work of art behind the dialogue, politics and intrigue. But to have both being such top quality is a gift that we should never take for granted.
Even with Alicent’s backing I can’t really see how Criston could get away with what he did let alone remain a Kingsguard. He literally caved a guy’s head in with his fists in front of multiple witnesses and on top of that ruining the king’s daughters wedding celebration. Can't wait for the next episode!
the king is close to dying...pretty sure he doesn't care if some knight's head gets bashed in.. he wants his heir to marry ASAP, to strengthen their line
@@chanellover4491 Yes, but Laenor obviously cares and he's the future King Consort. He would have called for Criston's head, and wanting to keep his house in the fold, the King would have given Cole's head no problem. Him walking away without even explaining himself is absolutely unbelievable, and a stain on such a good ep. There's no reason Laenor would allow Criston to walk, he's far below Laenor in position. At the least he would have called for a trial.
Okay now things are heating up. 🙌🏼🙌🏼 That "Dance" was a clear signal for the epic "Dance of Dragons" that the show is building toward. Can't wait. Welcome to the game, Daeron, Aemond one-eye, Aegon II, Helaena, and Jacaeyrys, Lucerys and Joffrey Velaryon. 🔥🔥🔥
Daeron won’t be in this season he’ll be offscreen in old town. He’s season 2 casting. But I also can’t wait for Aegon, Helaena and Aemond One Eye, also Baela Targaryen.
Thank You Milly and Emily for absolutely phenomenal performance. Milly's final scene was so great, it really set the tone for what's coming. But Cole truly struck my heart.
"Congratulations, stepdaughter. What a blessing is this for you." That dialogue, you already know sh*t's about to get real. From Alicent to Malificent real quick.
I am shocked to see Alicent Hightower in such shade, she's powerful, and intimidating, quite opposite to her previous self, and that is just phenomenal for the story as it will add in more flavours.
Milly been the absolute stand out for me and is going to be weird adjusting to the older characters. Found the wedding banquet just a bit to OTT…all the different narratives going on at once and just seemed to try to much to want to build up to a Red Wedding scenario. Still enjoying this far more than I expected.
Whilst I do prefer the viciousness, shock factor, and cunning dialogue of GoT seasons 1-4, I think HoTD is doing a pretty good job and has kept that exciting ‘feeling’ of GoT as well as the badass music and introduction, and the quality of each episode feels very consistent. Also, you can’t NOT love more dragons! 😍
Now the real game begins, till ep 5 it was all a setup, the real story begins now, I highly suggest those who haven't read the books to Google about the characters, it would just simply spoil your own enjoyment cause mad stuff is about to go down here on out
The cinematography is excellent. Costumes, colors and dragons are great! I hope this goes on for many seasons and takes us all the way up to Robert's Rebellion. I'm certain we will see the House of Stark during these upcoming seasons, too.
Criston and Alicent shined the most in this episode. Fabien and Emily with a master class performance showing their flaws and being conflicted individuals. Thank you, Milly & Emily!

isnt daemon's actor also gone now?
@@eiwhaz-tina6528 nope
An ASOIAF wedding without at least a death is considered a dull affair. I loved this episode! So much going down, Laenor loosing his lover, Criston loosing his shit, Alicent finally growing some brain cells, so much. Daemon is a right royal c*** to do that to Rhea. And poor Viserys, my man is just wasting away. Someone give him something for the pain and let him die. This show continues to impress since episode 4. Excellent television.
She was a horrid human being, Daemon was wrong for murdering her but I understand why he kept seeing other women
@@Orcaluv26 What horrid thing did she do?
I hated when Daemon did that. He should've made out with her in the middle of the field instead.
Why the fuck Laenor did not get Criston killed ????
@@Adil-uk7vh lol did u see the way she was speaking to him. He did the right thing
I miss Milly already, let's hope we get to see her more in future movies or shows to come.

@@paulog.5788 Ya I know, but I’ve thought Viserys was gonna die at least 8 times now in 6 episodes. But he’s probably gonna pull out a few years.
