When I was a kid I had Spyro on a Pizza Hut demo disc and the balloonist said something like “come back in September” probably cause that’s when the game came out. Well when 5 year old me went back in September guess what? NOTHING. Needless to say I’ve had a personal grudge against that balloonist bastard ever since.

Spyro takes up so little power and memory you can take the disc out on a ps2 slim and still play the whole game. There might be an exploit there

I'm assuming there is a flag that is set in the game when you talk to the balloonist, and he lowers the balloon for you. If you could figure out how to force that flag to be set, you could trick the game into lowering the balloon for you early and move to the next level. That would probably take some ACE shananigans to do though.

The comparisons here to other 90s/00s games, specifically how they load between stages, is really useful. Seems to illustrate some particularly Insomniac-like development characteristics - the Ratchet speedrunning community has the same barrier to planet skipping, essentially lack of in-world 'next stage' loading zones

Random ass thought: There's that glitch in Crash 2 that lets you collect key items by overflowing the item addresses. Something like that? Some kinda way to fuck up the collectible table and make mobs drop dragons or some shit?

i think one of the big issues with ace in spyro is the lack of anywhere the player can really input anything which means you need to rely on the game breaking memeory on its own and manipulating that, and the only time the game seems to really bug out is time based, like waiting ages for the key to bug out etc. so if something was found using current knowledge it might take longer than a run lmao

yes it does. its a debug balloonist thats out of bounds in peace keepers. no such out of bounds balloonists exist in the original

My theory would be you some how duplicate items such as dragons, eggs or even some 25 gems somehow. I know you can duplicate the dragon in Gnasty’s World but that’s it I think.
