    Maybe one day you guys could use your lumber to enclose your mill with a vent system to work out of the elements, adding an overhang for the un-cut lumber. You and your sister are young and I'm sure your systems can take the cold and heat but it must be uncomfortable. I'm sure your grandfather could design something. You can't put a price on your health.

      Taking a short dip in cold water and working your muscles for hours in the snow or extreme heat are two different things as far as long term health is concerned. Working in extreme conditions outside like this long term can age a person prematurely. In your youth you feel all powerful, but being human it catches up with your body in a bad way before you know it.@@JT_70

    Add methanol to your water. Window wash fluid in 55 gallon plastic drums follows this ratio. 15 gallons methanol. Liquid soap, 32 ounces. Blue dye to suit, and then the barrel is topped off with water. Very simple to make. Our Farmer Dave used to make it at a company that marketed it for sale at retail locations.

    Just a thought, try a round or square metal tank for your lubrication container. Use either heavy gauge copper wire or tubing, wrap multiple times around the base of the engine muffler, and run it to the outside of the lubrication tank. Wrap it around it multiple times, and use a fire proof insulated type blanket to ensure rapid warm up of your coolant. This can be diluted with mostly water, that is much cheaper than using all windshield washer. Caution on the amount of windshield washer, as METHANOL is in most windshield washer. There has been concern about truckers having legionnaires disease, and that there may be a connection. The forementioned could be considered a potential cost saver on the windshield washer and extended life of saw blades. However the most important thing is both of your personal health as potential issues have been a factor in the trucking industry. Lastly while your warming up the engine, you are warming up your lubrication container. Anyways have a safe and great day. Much sunshine to you both ☀️☀️

      Heat exchangers have been around a long time. Back in the day, I flew big aircraft for long distances at high altitude. After being scavanged from the engines, the super heated oil was routed next to the fuel lines via a heat exchanger thus cooling the oil before it returned to the reservoir, and likewise heating the fuel to prevent ice crystals from forming. Having watched Ken and Grandpa in action, I'm sure they could rig up something to utilize this technique?

    • @scottsoper
      @scottsoper 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@GroundedFlyboy737 there is just no need for all that. What there is need of is to remember that it might freeze at night as fall arrives and to get the washer fluid in the tank and lines. an active heat exchange won't work anyway because nothing is running at night.

    My first thought when I saw your thumbnail was of a Ray Stevens song, "Along Came Jones"! 😆You could spoof that one real well. Just need an unlikely hero/heroine to saunter in at the right time. Would make a great video! Probably a copyright booger though. Our church has a copyright license for music and video. Not sure what one would cost for a channel like yours. But there is SOOOO much you could do with that!

    Emerald likes to break thru the ice on the nearby creek and immerse herself into the ice cold water. She even walks barefoot across the snow to the creek. She’s incredibly tough.
    Vehicle antifreeze is poisonous. It has a sweet flavor that appeals to dogs (like Roxy) and other animals and will kill them. Windshield washer fluid would be a safer lubricant as it is mostly alcohol and not attractive to pets.

    It would seem that winter is coming a bit early. On the farming RUclipss I watch, many are getting some snow before getting the crops in. This is not normally the case. At my location in FL it is 57F and likely to get down to 53F overnight. Don''t laugh! A lot of Floridians get out the winter coats at that temperature!!

    Hi Emerald and Jade. I own a 1990 LT40HD Woodmizer and cut regularly from April to late November, shutting it down due cold winter months here in the Ottawa Valley. I haven't lubricated the blade for 25 years although I use a spray bottle filled with varesol to remove the odd build up of white pine gum every now and then. 90% of the wood I cut is white pine.
    Just an FYI that it perfectly ok to run the mill without any form of blade lubrication.
    Cheers!

      varesol is a medication for itchy skin, Varsol is a paint thinner I'm guessing this is what you were referencing. Jla
