    Poland has a large Vietnamese community dating back to the communist times. The Vietnamese are perceived as peaceful people who work, open restaurants and shops selling goods from Asia. They create a close community, and at the same time integrate well with society, obey the law and Polish customs. People in Poland perceive other Asians based on their experience with Vietnamese.

      same. For me the biggest eye opener was not traveling, but moving to Ireland - you glance over many everyday stuff when traveling and just start noticing problems by once you live in one place for longer time. I believe big part of it is that we mentally got stuck in seeing Poland how it was in '80-early '00s and kept repeating same old sayings that are way outdated now (eg. roads sucking or corruption)

    Well, Poland is a "developed" country based on every estimation. Infrastructure, standard of living etc. aren't really different, and imo actually better (especially in terms of modern technologies) than in many other countries. But I get what he's saying, we definitely are still on the path of further development. We still have way to go in terms of salaries, getting rid of communism remains etc.

    Asians are definitely welcomed here.
    I feel like in case of Poland (and probably other countries in this region) the concept of "racism" is very different from how the westerners understand it. I mean, we never had colonies, we never had black slaves, there is no such such thing as seeing people of color as a "lower race" or smth. Lol, WE were treated as a lower race for a good chunk of our history, there's really no sense of being "better" than anyone else.
    All the distrust, dislike, that we might have towards other people, isn't based on what race they are or how they look like, it's based on their culture and behavior.
    So e.g. some people might not like middle easterns, because of all the things that happen in other countries and because of their culture that is sometimes hard to accept for us.
    But most people have only positive feelings towards east/southern Asians, because they earned a good reputation here. I think the same can be said about Indians, there's quite a big Indian community, they come for work, are usually very polite and non-problematic. At least I haven't really heard anyone saying anything negative about them.
    Edit: it's not to say that there won't be any people who would act xenophobic or just be jerks and pick up on somone. But like I said, I think it works in a different way here. And overall I think it's less of a problem than in many other countries. Just my opinion.
    Edit2: as a woman, yes, I do find the Asians attractive. Always have, long before the K-Pop era. I have no idea where this comes from 😂

      Polish history is over 1,000 years old. While the Germans called the Poles unter menschen (sub-humans) during WW2. That is a very small chunk of Polish history. Before being partitioned Poland was an empire for centuries in partnership with Lithuania.

    • @leno_o17
      @leno_o17 4 месяца назад

      @@ronaldostrowski4014 Partitions happened in the 18 century. That makes it almost 250 years of being under occupation, having culture eradication, language eradication, being discriminated against (a lot of the negative stereotypes e.g. in America started from the German and Russian propaganda, trying to show Polish people as backwards and dumb, unworthy of having their own country- for an extent it was succesful), being again subjugated and exterminated and later, during communism, again being treated as a lower type, with our history and culture being presented only through the lens of Soviet propaganda. I'd argue that all this has stronger impact on our today's mentality than distant stories about great Commonwealth.

    About Polish attitude towards Asian countries: in Poland nowadays quite a lot of people are interested in Asian countries and their culture, especially in Japan and South Korea, being democratic countries. China is also interesting, to visit as a tourist, but from obvious reasons (also our own historical ones) we prefer to visit democratic countries. There are some quite popular RUclips channels, with many viewers: about Japan a popular channel of Gabriel Hyodo, who is half Polish - half Japanese (his father lives since years in Poland and has a Japanese language school in Cracow) or "Ignacy z Japonii", a Japanese who moved to Poland and he also speaks Polish perfectly; about South Korea - "Pyra w Korei" and "Pierogi z kimchi", so two RUclips channels of Polish women living since years in SK and "Kim jestem", a channel of a Korean living since years in Poland, speaking Polish perfectly (and also both of his Korean parents are living with him since years in Poland). And about China there's an interesting channel of Weronika Truszczyńska, living and studying in China. We also like some of the Asian food, mainly Japanese. In almost every Polish town there are bars or restaurants with sushi and ramen. And in Cracow there's a Polish-Korean factory of kimchi. Among the youngest generations also currently kpop is quite popular, so they even learn some Korean. And more and more people travel to Asian countries.

    This is the main difference in Polish mentality vs *western* mentality , our hospitality comes from remembering what real hunger is.
    Americans or english are nice because their culture pushing them for fake smiles,but besides that,theres no really willing to meet or engage in a relations with foreigners.
    Poles are curious about other nations and we genuiely dont have any bias or cultural baggage for superior views.
    Germans/Americans/french/dutch on the other Hand... Will Always view you based on your race ,look and wealth.
    American girls have monetized their look, so they will try to get Marry with same-level looking guy ,and if hes not at the same level, he must earn much more.
    In Poland beautiful woman can Marry a normal looking guy and that's common here. Polish women dont ( yet) monetize their look to attrack the best option there is.

    While I'm biased of course I think Poland has one, main, real downside to living in it. And that's low salaries. If everyone would earn... let's say 50% more than they do now Poland would be one of the best countries to live in in whole Europe.

    There should NOT be problems (there always are JERKS, but that happens everywhere in the world) as long as foreigners don't try to make this piece of land into another Asian, African, or even American country- THIS is Poland, love her and she will love U back. It's that simple, exactly like in a relationship- DON'T try to change Poland into something else and U will be good ;)
    EDIT:
    I am NOT saying that U must get rid of your culture, quite the contrary- U have the right to have your culture and your faith. Just don't tell us that we should get rid of our culture ;)

    to be honest if you want to live in Poland you must want to be Polish. Must. So you go there, accept the tradition, the culture, the way everything goes around. Otherwise you'll never be accepted. Honestly you'll go our way or go away. But it comes out of courtsey, if you're a guest, respect our lifestyle, if it's not for you, you're good to go, we're happy as we are. We don't need anybody else but we are happy to welcome you if you're hyped with us

    Poles can be racist. But in my opinion it does not differ from the European norm. Although I think the West does it more secretly. Within their four walls. For us, the most important thing is that you obey our laws and respect our culture. After all, it's our country. If you do this you won't have any major problems.

    • @MayaTheDecemberGirl
      @MayaTheDecemberGirl 4 месяца назад +2

      Read on various channels how many people complain about Asian countries being racist, especially towards black ones, but also towards others. They mention even such cases as not being served in a restaurant (sth like this doesn't happen in Poland). Many people there complain also about discrimination, in some of the Asian countries, of people coming from "mixed" families (I've even seen comments about "not having pure blood" etc.). And I think that vast majority of ordinary people in Poland are not at all racist (but of course, like in every country and society, exceptions sometimes happen). The truth is however that we are sceptical about, or even afraid of, immigrants (especially in bigger numbers) coming from muslim countries, because they are seen as being possibly hostile and not respecting our values, culture or even legal order (seeing unfortunately also from experiences of some Western European countries).
