Great selection! Truly, these names are some of the biggest bass influences in rock. Glad you liked seeing Pete Way on the list. Thanks for commenting!
It was a research project, we pored over biographies and interviews of big names in bass music in search of their influences, we added up the number of mentions and came up with this ranking. We detail this procedure in the video description, if you can, check it out. Thanks for watching and commenting. Welcome to the channel!
Since the topic's "influential" and not "best," I'd argue that Gene Simmons should be in the top 10. Not a great player by any measure (although he's way better than he gives himself credit for), but so, so many people picked up the bass because of him. I would also argue that REM's Mike Mills - who actually is a great player - should've made the top 20 for the same reason.
Absolutely! Sting and Chris Wolstenholme are amazing and deserve recognition. Even though they didn’t make the top 20, their contributions to music are undeniable. Thanks for commenting!
I think Roger Waters comes at least in the top 3, because he just revolutionned prog rock and rock more generally, throught amazing basslines like Money or Another Brick in the Wall Part 1, at my advice he's the best but each one his advice
@@tonyriviere Gilmour played all the fretless bass parts. And probably many of the others as well, we will probably never know. Fun fact about Money: the track was recorded by the doubling of Waters bass and the low register of Gilmour's black strat. And yes also, One of these days were played by both of them in tandem.
E anche? Davvero interessante, almeno non è uno spot pubblicitario che non ha nulla a che fare con l'argomento come quelli sui siti di scommesse, giusto? Grazie per aver guardato e commentato. Benvenuti sul canale!
Good point! This list focused more on historical influences in rock, but there's an amazing new generation of Asian musicians that deserves recognition. Who would you include? Thanks for the comment!
They are actually bass giants, but our research into influences didn't point to them. If you want to know more, read the video description. Thanks for commenting!
Flea is NOT a Rock bass player as his shitty faux rock/jazz pop band prove.Calling Mike Rutherford influential is just hysterical. For me it's always been Geddy Lee/Pete Way/Steve Harris/Cliff Williams.
Chris Squire Geddy Lee Jaco Pastorius. Ma McCartney 2° è una bestemmia. Poi, se i Beatles devono per forza stare ovunque, visto che sono stati la Band più famosa di ogni tempo, allora OK....
Flee really should be near the top. Plenty of people started playing bass to try and play what he does in popular music. Harris 12th? This is a bad list.
Influences were taken into account here, including Flea's own influences, which were John Paul Jones, Bootsy Collins, Jaco Pastorius and several jazz bassists. The same goes for Steve Harris, who has confessed to being influenced by names such as John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney, Geezer Butler, Roger Glover, Greg Lake, Mike Rutherford, Glenn Cornick, Phil Lynott and especially Chris Squire and Pete Way. If you want to know more about this list, read the video description.
Good evening my friend I just made my top 10 rockbassists it was hard to make but I just made it. From Monday I have to work so I made my list already with some surprises. Here we go: 01 Flea - Red Hot Chili Peppers 02 Jean- Jacques Burnel - The Stranglers 03 Jack Bruce - Cream 04 John Clifford - Conflict 05 Tony Levin - King Crimson 06 Peter Vink - Finch 07 Tim Commerford - Rage Against The Machine 08 Martin Dresden - Focus 09 Lemmy Kilmister - Motorhead 10 Roger Glover - Deep Purlple 11 Jennifer Finch - L7 12 Dee Dee Ramone - Ramones 13 Rinus Gerritsen - Golden Earring 14 Les Claypool - Primus 15 Tina Weymouth - Talking Heads 16 Hans Ziech - Earth and Fire 17 Peter Hook - Joy Division 18 Paul Gray - The Damned 19 Dusty Hill - ZZ Top 20 Rob van der Loo - Epica If your list is based on Ranker I guess you will not see female, dutch and punkrock bassists. I hope I am wrong but to be sure I added them on my list. I expect that the other ones (the uusual suspects) are also on the (Ranker?) list. Enjoy the list my friend.
This list was based on the most influential rock artists. I searched for the preferences of big names in bass and we found some well-known names, but there was also space to mention great jazz musicians. I really liked your list and I will definitely base it on future lists. Thank you and have a great weekend!
@@BackingTrackCenter Peter Vink inspired many bands in The Netherlands he is here an icon. Jennifer Finch inspired women to play bass in a male dominated scene. Rinus Gerritsen is a role model and influenced a lot of Dutch bands. Just three examples who changed music and attitudes.
@@BackingTrackCenter John Clifford influenced The White Stripes they stole his riff. Have a great weekend my friend. There is always influence but the music industry is not always honest about giving the credits. Have a great weekend my friend.
@@BackingTrackCenterI just saw your ranking my friend and it was good to see Flea just made it, Les Claypool, of course Lemmy Kilmister, usual suspect Roger Glover we both ranked on 10 and Jack Bruce. The Honarable Mentions was on very high speed they deserve really more attention. But I was happy to see Tony Levin , Dusty Hill, Tina Weymouth and Tim Commerford. Tony and Dusty I was really thinking they would be in top 20. Tina and Tom deserve really more attention. Next list you will include Jean Jaques Burnel he has really a signature sound. On my list this time many punkrock because basslines are key in this genre. Have a good evening my friend.
Wetton erhielt in diesem Video bei 08:18 eine lobende Erwähnung. Er ist in unserem Video über Sänger aufgetreten: ruclips.net/video/Z6uH0ja755g/видео.html Danke für Ihren Kommentar!
Very complicated way of making a totally useless list of 20 bass players of which most are well known, but very few have really influenced anybody. I do however agree with the #1 pick. Entwistle was pretty much the first to make the bass more than just a rythm instrument. If you had called it "My 20 favorite bass players", we might at least have had some ground for debate. I seriously doubt that McCartney or Wyman for instance have influenced anybody with their bass playing.
The list was based on research into influences declared by other renowned bassists, we tried to take an objective path, so it has nothing to do with "my favorites", if you have any doubts about the objectivity of the list, check the video description, there we explain in more detail how everything was done.
Dee Dee’s contributions to punk rock are immense. While he didn’t make the top 20, he’s definitely a name worth celebrating. Maybe he’ll feature in a future list! Thanks for your comment!
Since this is an influence-based list, we looked for great bass icons and looked for material that would point to their influences. You can read the details in the description of this video. Thanks for commenting!
LOL, Les Claypool, he has a special style, but is he influencial : 0, just like Bill Whyman. This list is a joke..like most of those lists on the internet even though I agree to some of it.
I completely disagree! Les Claypool is widely recognized as an influence on modern bass, particularly with his slap technique and eccentric style. Bill Wyman shaped classic rock’s sound with the Rolling Stones. These are not "random" picks. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Greg Lake was indeed very good on his bass, also classic guitar, and electric guitar. Keeping up with Keith and Carl was not easy. His work in Pictures at an Exhibition was exceptional
Absolutely agree! Greg Lake was a complete musician, and his work on Pictures at an Exhibition truly showcases his talent. His synergy with Keith and Carl was one of a kind. Thanks for your comment!

Wolstenholme's an absolute beast.
Geddy Lee is God.
