Dr Maté, thank you. It's so helpful to hear your insights into the correlation between mind and body, the effects of trauma and the function of addiction and other physical and mental/emotional coping mechanisms. It resonates so closely with my own understanding and the beliefs with which I approach my own practice

I love that you kept this genuine authentic human interaction that happened around the word “critical” in the video. Such a great model for communication and also solving the misunderstandings that communication naturally bears. ❤

But Dr Maté, what about Down syndrome, schyzophrenia, etc? If not genes, then what causes these conditions?
You are one of the most fascinating individuals I've read, heard. Thank you for sharing your insights and wisdom.

Love this conversation. One thing Gabor, besides Anne Frank who you mentioned, have you read Etty Hillesum, living in Amsterdam trained by a Jungian analyst?

"The ultimate in beauty? It is that which mends and inspires the soul, and all creation."
"Special is that something, or someone, that invokes more in all."
"Beauty is that being, who stands as such, who stands for more, who stands for better."
"For all that is, the good, the bad & the ugly, is there a rhyme, a rhythm & reason? Know patience, know perseverance, know poetry. Only then, will you know."
"Maybe my tragedy is a test, I want to be taught, for me to be true, to allow me to transcend, for me to treasure."
"Persist upon your pain, that it not be in vain. In uncovering meaning & value, comes comfort & elevation."
"Heavenly is a hurt, that hollows out a truth - for a bigger heart, for a greater understanding."
"Our afflictions, and addictions -- are as wicked, or wise -- as our understanding of them."
"Enlightenment is the light of understanding, for yourself, and for all others."
"An education lived, a wisdom experienced -- has breath, sinew, and virtue."

One thing that bothers me about these famous therapists talking about the failure of parents to provide the socialization, love, nurture, teaching them how to talk and play and singing the lullabies that they need as much as mother's milk, while he is explaining that they were not able to do better, I am thinking that modern parents these days are too busy pursuing their greed, making more and more for themselves, their time being too costly to waste on the children they brought into the world. It is not true that their careers are essential and the children can get what is left of their emotion and time and love and nurturing. The fact is that for mothers now the career is to take care of the infants. Making more money is a sideline of future thing. To get this wrong is criminal.

Who are these "therapists"? Also, Gabor doesn't believe in teaching kids and socializing them, listen to what he says: Healthy attachment between adult and children is what he preaches. All those superficial activities such lullabies and singing is secondary. Gabor has mentioned in many interviews how parents and mother especially, do not get enough time off work to care for the babies. He mentioned that in the u.s mother's get almost no leave from work, while in Norway they get a year or two paid leave. Further more, he rambles on and on about politics and how screwed up our culture and governments are for letting this shit happen. I don't there's as much opposition between you now. .

Unfortunately the modern world is still very new compared to the centuries that preceded, with all the changes in technology, society the interaction between people and so many other aspects of life there is a huge amount of learning about the new age and no one can be sure if it’s going to be positive or the end of the human race.
I sometimes am unsure if having children myself was a good thing in my 50 years on the planet the rate of change is unnerving and I’m sure it’s not slowing down.
The subject is huge and I feel that it is a disservice to sum it up in one message, all I can hope is that we can understand each other and be able to live and let live.
