As a result of the 12 step😮s of alcoholic anonymous, I have been free from alcohol addiction for over thirty years. It is not a surprise to me that alcohol was not my essential problem, which cause me to attend my first AA meeting. I drank alcohol for a specific purpose: the effect alcohol had on my mood, thinking, and feeling. Alcohol offered a quick fix to my ever present anxiety, fear, guilt, and shame. Alcohol was not the problem causing my mental condition, alcohol was in fact the solution. Albeit, fleeting, temporary, and, ultimately destructive of all real joy, happiness, and usefulness. The 12 step program offers a proven method to find a way to live a wholesome life alcohol free, whatever the cause for the drinking.

It resonates so closely with my own understanding and the beliefs with which I approach my own practice

Late to this conversation, but as someone who uses MDMA in both spiritual and recreational spaces, I struggle to see how it would not be positive in couples work. My experience is that it can be difficult to find both people in a couple that are willing to try it unless it is already a part of their lifestyle. Hopefully the FDA can turn the volume down and drop the medicine from Schedule 1 so more straight edged people can perhaps open to it. It is the rare person that this amazing chemical does not impact in a positive way.
