    Mani Ratnam should make Iruvar part-2. Now, that JJ is dead he won't face any opposition (the first film didn't even get a proper release because of the threats). In the first film Mohanlal's character MGR died in the climax, the part-2 could be fully focused about Jayalalithaa (Aishwarya Rai's character) , JJ's life was the most interesting, complex, thrilling, dark and enigmatic life of a woman in the history of politics, and I dare say, in the history of mankind (as someone who followed her meteoric rise in public life since the 80s). I really hope this materializes , now Aishwarya is in the right age to play JJ in late 80s and early 90s.For flashbacks he could use scens from part-1 (young Ash with Mohanlal). He could make part-3 and even part 4, since JJ's life is complex and interesting that her 2 years public life can't be told in one cradle-to-death biopic.

      But do you guys realise the Jayalalitha character in the movie was dead? They write her character off in the movie itself to not make it too personal of her life story. How can you expect a sequel then?

    Such a satisfying interview ! Kudos to baradwaj sir for this loveley conversation ! The start was bang on ! Have always wondered about the "cosmopolitan female lead " as he puts so beautifully ! Revathy listenning to beatles song in mouna ragam is one thing which has always stunned me and kept lingering in my mind for a very long time ! Want to go back and see kannathil muthamittal now ! Love you mani sir ! Yes i do feel sometimes u do loose grip but its your vision and charcterization that makes you stand high over the years :)

    Read this to know what makes Mani Ratnam great.
    We know how powerful Silence is. Only Mani Ratnam has the guts to place a Silence between dialogues filled with AR Rahman music in the background. It allows us to capture the scene meditatively and connects emotionally with us. Those of us who have lower attention spans and are digital addicts may not like it but his films are like a spiritual journey. COntrast this with modern pure entertainment masala films filled with noise, frequent and unnecessary change of camera positions which leads to a restless mind.

    13:45 . HE IS , YES HE IS THE REAL GUY. Usually his films have minimum comedy, its not comedy but people smile and get relax . When it comes to other mainstream movies with Vulgar Comedy and Cheap characterization . They may mint hell lot of money. But MANI sirs movie is always closer to the art and nature. He is very very far from us. LEGEND.

    Brilliant interview. Slice and dice as usual. What I found interesting and again I'm not sure if you even observed it about yourself BR is you're more comfortable interviewing and engaging ace directors and actors than the younger generation like Dhanush, SK where you sound more formal with them. With people like Mani Ratnam or GVM, you just let loose. I seriously envy not just knowledge about movies but the way you articulate your perspective and elicit responses. A pleasure to watch. You're simply the best interviewer I admire today.

    One of my favorite Mani Ratnam film is Iddaru (Telugu) Mohan Lal starrer. What a great film that was. But I dont really watch Mani Ratnam's films with passion anymore because they lack that grip and intensity over the story. He has lost his mojo. My favorite director in Tamil Film Industry now is Vetri Maran. He is now what Mani Ratnam was some 20 years ago. I will still watch Cheliya though.

    • @prettypriyankaruban7994
      @prettypriyankaruban7994 7 лет назад +11

      M.S. Murthi haha what your saying seems to be funny sir.. the thing why he is a legend is that, he doesn't make same kind of films.. he makes different films of different genre.. he tries different movies.. he makes movies according to the trend.. and you can't pick movies of same stuff in his list.. when he makes love movies you can't make movies with lots of intensity with guns,and hard dialogues..love is a feeling that should be felt and Mani rathnam movies give you that feeling.. 😃😃😃

    • @m.s.murthi1602
      @m.s.murthi1602 7 лет назад +7

      preethi priyanka Ofcourse he is a legend.. nobody is denying that. I have watched almost all of his movies... particularly the ones from the 80s and upto the late 90s, the stories that he told be it love action or anything had you glued to the screen with attention because his characters had depth in them They were crafted very well but most of the films now have characters which are too shallow.. not enough time for them to breath. Thats all I am saying.

    Mr.Karthi should understand that Tamil movies make a balance between art and entertainment. coz u do mindless entertainment, u cant brand the world of Balachander, balumahendra, barathiraja, maniratnam, bala and Manikandan's movie as artless. madras was ur last hit movie which is both artistic and populous, FYI.
