Vanakkam! The opening fight reminded Gladiator, the scenes between Vikram and Vikram Prabhu, the sea shore fight in Sri Lanka reminded of Troy, the secne where Karthi was alone in the sea reminded of Life of Pai, the rescue scenes of Oomai Rani reminded of The Lord of the Rings. the fight sequence of Karthi at the Fort reminded of The Scirpion King. Apart from these things the characterization is well handled. The cinematography and the lighting is enjoyable. The costumes and the use of jewellery takes the audience to the time. Sure there will be orders pouring into many jewellery shops atleast in Tamilnadu. All the characters are well portrayed by the seasoned artists of our film industry. The background music and the songs are delivered well by A R Rahman. Well choreographed dances by Brindha. Lovely lines by the lyricists. Thank you Mr. Mani Ratnam- PONNIYIN SELVAN- Part-1.

manirtnam's films are way overrated. jayalalitha herself has said this. this man plays his politics thorugh movies. Kalki krishnamoorthy played politics with his pen with PS. PS is written to distract people from true history of cholas. read 1949 history of cholas by research historian Sadasiva Pandrathar. 1950 immediately kalki writes this novel to distract people played his poitics as it was 4 brahmin men who killed aditya karikalan and kalki was a brahmin. maniratnam is anti dravidian and is a brahmin too.

I actually like BR when he analyzes movies other than Maniratnam or Kamal. I feel he is too fan boyish with these two ppl that some of his questions are a bit naive. I mean asking how do you keep yourself updated ? I mean any good director would adapt to the times - that what a good director does, so it’s not a miracle. Even in an earlier interview like Katru Veliyidai he had such fan boyish questions when the movie wasn’t actually good and lacked a crisp screenplay.

  • @arunsurendren4730

The movie was epic and cool!!! First of all a shoutout and applause to the technical team behind the movie.. Art Director: Thotta Tharani, DOP: Ravi Varman, Music and BGM: ARR and also kudos to the make up and costume designers...
The 'story' is the king and the 'captain' is the director. Director Mani Ratnam sir has showcased and showed justice to the Novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy sir... If Kalki sir was with us now, he must have praised Mani sir for the movie created.
Star cast has shown great performance for the roles given to them. Let it be Vikram, Aishwarya Rai and Lekshmi, Trisha, Parthiben, Nasar, Lal, Prabhu, Karthik, Jayaram and all other Co stars everybody has done their part so well.. Here, story is the king hence Mani sir, without imjecting too much mass into the movie, he went according to the book. Mass performances were all suttle without any single character over doing anything. Even though Jayam Ravi performed well, ofcourse he's a good character, I felt instead of him an other actor would have performed a bit more better. That doesn't mean he didn't show justice to the character but still......
The way Ravi Varman captured frames in this movie was outstanding. He bought out all the beauty of the women characters in this movie. By focusing more on them.... Especially I loved the scene before interval where Vikram talks about the past and the camera was on him for good 5-7 minutes. Not only this there are 'N' number of other scenes as well. .
ARR as usual has proved his music scores. Very well scored the bgm for the movie according to the pace of the movie..
Not concerned abt CGI or Vfx..
Proper hardcore Tamil language is used in the movie, hence subtitles helped me and I will again watch the Malayalam version as well. I heard dubbing for all the languages were perfect. Climax has been a bit confused and it concluded well for the 2nd part..
I haven't read the novel so far, hence I shall buy the Malayalam or English version and will read it..
**** Brilliant movie**** Eagerly waiting for the 2nd part and please please do not do a comparison with RRR, Bahubali or KGF.. This is purely story based and not action based...
    ❤❤❤❤❤

One of the best interviews where the interviewer and interviewed are very very informative and bharatwaj brought out everything inside mani rathnam. Mani, a man of few words is made repeat made to pour out whatever was in his mind. Kudos bharathwaj both for your interview and your very very deep knowledge on good cinema.

Roja is a huge inspiration for Hanu Raghavapudi to create SitaRamam🦋 plot is slightly smiliar but ending is diffrent even the male lead characters say the particular word *Curfew*

Hanu is like a poor man's MR. Sitaramam feels like indianized Dr Zhivago made with the distinct stamp of MR /ARR . There are numerous shots inspired from Roja / Bombay / Dil se and music also sounds so similar to Rahman's style.
