Rest Area Tailgate Camping

- I went looking for a unique place to camp and the best I found was a highway rest area. Simple but effective overnighter, the tarp "tent" on the back of the SUV added much-needed room to a small space.

Hey everyone! Just a simple short overnight trip this week, I was filming a more ambitious video for a few days but there were issues and I had to scrap that video. Cheers everyone!
thanks Steve!
Should put together some funny outtakes some time. Thanks for the content dude!
Didn't expect a video this week, hope you are feeling a lot better.
Uncle Steve!
That is one dirty car
Life is Full of Choices, Let Hunkering Down Be Yours
Love the quirkiness of your channel Steve.
Keep doing what you’re doing Bud,I look forward to watching you and your adventures and cracking a cold one while doing so!
nice tailgate steve ;)
"Why am I watching this?" I'll offer that insight for you Steve, and I'm not just blowin smoke. You're an effortlessly likeable dude. Following along on your adventures, even those that you think might be boring, is a needed respite for everyone who watches your videos. The mythical algorithm put your freeway interchange video in front of me, and in the past two weeks I think I've watched almost everything you've done in the past two years. I can tell you're a humble guy and you get these kinds of comments on every video but that won't stop me chiming in. We're here for you. Simple as that. Had to pause and put my two cents in the comments when you posited that "why am I watching" question, but I'm gonna get back to the video -- and my step 2 -- now. Cheers!
If someone says they don't like Steve, I would automatically not trust that person lol
Love steve very well put
Yep, just like when my dog doesn’t like someone.
Hey Cheers! Thanks for the support
I was thinking exactly that"why am I watching this lol" then he said that. Because it's Steve, of course, always entertaining and informative, plus Steve is a great human being
The reason we watch Steve, is because of you!
You are absolutely living the best life ever
Can confirm that Steve isn't as crazy as he seems. Doing the kind of things he does is liberating. That feeling of living on the fringe of society can free you from a lot of stress and allows you to see how ridiculous it is to take life so seriously
Please keep going Steve, maybe bring an ironing board, roomba and install some hardwood flooring in your car. Camping with Steve is halarious, but not really camping. You could change the name to "Inefficient Living with Steve" or "Surviving for Now with Steve" Kidding aside, love the free spirit.
That neighbor of his on the other hand might be a bit crazy.
He probably makes pretty good money from doing these things with the amount of views he gets
As Stobe said "Stop complicating your life, get a 12 pack and find a river, its literally all you need to have a good time"
Well said Andrew!
Why are we here? Cause Steve is a great calm uplifting companion in a awful world. Thank you sir! Love your content
Thanks for this comment. Cheers
@@campingwithsteve honestly when I have had a bad day it's extremely relaxing and I always have a good laugh and it just brightens my day. Thanks for everything you do Steve.
Another great video, as always!
How awesome to hopefully have 1 million subs by the end of the year.
Steve, my husband loved watching your videos every Thursday, but on 06/24/22, he was severely injured on the job. He ended up needing emergency brain surgery and yesterday was 3 weeks since his surgery. He woke up on day 16 from a coma and he recognizes me, his wife of 27 years and our oldest son, but he could not and still cannot follow commands of hold up 2 fingers, wriggle your toes. I am worried sick about him and just would love to ask everyone here to pray for him.
I’ve slept at folding mountain in my semi hundreds of times… 10/10 would recommend!
Such a beautiful area to drive through.
Thanks for being a trucker.
Thanks, Steve, for being you.
Love these chilled videos!
The world can be going to hell in a handbasket but Steve is out there making videos about camping. There’s something very comforting about Steve. It gets my mind off of the world. Thank you Steve. :-)
Agreed:)
Whatever you do Steve, please don't start asking yourself "why am I doing this?". Who cares if some people aren't interested in what you do, there are so many of us that enjoy every single video you produce! Just trust the process and keep doing what you enjoy 🙂
I dont know why im watching but im now binging your whole channel.
Your videos are like a meditation
Glad you're feeling better Steve. Those of us that follow you are ok with whatever you do. You keep things light and laid back. We need that now. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Thanks for following along!
Word on the street is he had a bad case Delhi Belly and destroyed 4 toilets in 3days.. not sure if it's true or not.
Sorry couldn't help myself😔😁

Steve: “…why are you watching this”?!
Me: why would you not be watching this?! steve is such a genuine amazing human and I always enjoy watching his camping adventures & whatever else he may get in to. I honestly have no idea how I came across Steve and his channel but I’m glad I did.
When he said that I thought the same thing. I said to myself “why WOULDN’T I be watching this???”. Steve is the GOAT
This is what i was going to comment word for word almost, this must be how most of us feel! Steve really is a genuine guy, glad to be along for all the adventures as well
Ayyyy there buddy. Wheres crazy neighbor?? 🤣🤣🤣
This was awesome
It’s not just a “what was that? You just camped on the side of the road video”. It was a video with YOU Steve! From the mundane to the amazing, we just like watching you! Your content always brings a smile to our faces and brightens the day, keep doin what you do man!
When Steve uploads everyone and everything gets put on hold ❤❤
It's a vibe. A good vibe.
God bless Steve keep them coming.
That mountain view is beautiful
I've got to say when Steve started to talk about people stumbling onto his video it made me think back to when I did that very thing what seems like a lifetime ago and I must say I'm so thankful I did so. These videos make me happy and I always make it routine to watch them before going to sleep to relax and wind down because Steve and his content is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise chaotic and restless world. Thank you Steve for all that you create 🙏
Me RN
Hello hope ican do this soon
YAY, Camping with Steve is BACK!!!!👍👍👍👍
I love watching you're videos in my bed, makes me feel so fortunate for my cozy blankets and pillows.
Dude I just want to tell you, watching your videos releases all the stress of running 3 businesses, making ends meet, and all the stresses of life on that. Thank you for that, thank you for the simple things
Glad to see you're feeling better Steve. Much love from Illinois
Agreed. Hellinois here
Yeah, it's time to get out of the Peoples Republic of Illinois.
Thank you Jay
My cat is just chillin right here watching me watching you.
Omg always funny and entertaining 🤣👍
It’s important to take care of yourself. We can wait because the wait is always worth it! I am so glad you’re feeling better.
The videos are just plain fun to watch. That's why I watch, very entertaining, especially when he says, "what can go wrong".
Wow. You can obviously sleep anywhere! This princess and the pea will ck out the Woods mattress.
Thinking of you and family. Big hug.
This was fun. Great editing and music too!
Glad to see you back in good health, Steve!
I have real bad anxiety and have trouble sleeping at night. Your videos help me keep it under control and fall asleep thanks Steve 👍 your adventures are awesome even when you're at the more simple spots
Cheers Adam
While I don’t have anxiety I rely on a few different RUclipsr’s to help me relax before bed.
Thank goodness for RUclips. How else could I see a man camp once a week who lives 2500 miles away from me.
Relaxing content as always !
Epic, keep it up Steve!
you had me at the blowtorch , electric fence , and unconventional camping sites , I love what you do.
Steve, you’re a life hack! Thanks for making things seem so much better.
Thank you for bringing us along 💛
❤️❤️ what a beautiful truck stop view, and it definitely makes sense to actually enjoy making the videos without fighting aches/ailments
Road trip! Heading down the highway...looking for adventure...whatever comes my way...Born to be wild!!! That's Steve!
I was beginning to think I was the only person who caught that!
Not ganna lie…when I first started watching a couple years ago I was like “why the hell am I watching this” yet I didn’t stop and haven’t for years. One of the very very few who’s videos I do not miss. Thanks for the content Steve
A good random but entertaining video. When busy working this type o trip is the perfect break from the humdrum of working life
Almost 1 million Steve! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Well well, this is exactly what I’m doing as we speak. Heading to a remote rest area in the middle of nowhere Oregon. Spend a couple nights and move on! Can’t wait for Step 2s!!!!
@@timjones147 no, no it’s not. Knock that shit off. Don’t be that kind of a person. Don’t come in here and vomit political garbage. Specially in a state I KNOW you don’t live in. Shameful. Be part of the solution, not the problem.
Peaceful place in Oregon at the rest areas or just in general and I'm as right wing as it gets. It would have to be awful sparse on traffic to consider TWO nights IMO, but it's possible!
Have fun and stay safe. Cheers
Steve, if the street light are kinda a yellowish orange, these are sodium vapor lights. They run in cycles to keep the bulb from over heating. Lights turn off after certain time to allow it to cool off.
“I don’t know where I’m going but I know where I’m sleeping!” Good intro.
Nice little adventure.
We love it all! Stealthers, Bus excursions, Bike trips, Treehousers, River rafting, Car camping, Park glamping or drainage pipe you are always entertaining. Love seeing you interact with beautiful wife and crazy neighbor too! Keep doing what makes you happy (not what we say) so the channel remains fun for you, we love it all!
The highlight of my Thursday is a notification that Steve uploaded a video 😀
I like these freestyle videos!!
We're watching because we love you!
Found your channel when the algorithm popped your roundabout stealth camp and been coming back ever since. You clearly put a lot of heart into your content and it really shines through, there's something almost zen like about just sitting and taking in your world view.
You're the Bob Ross of camping.
Thanks for being a new sub. Cheers
Hey Steve,
My family and I watch every Thursday when possible. My mom just asked me to tell you that we really enjoyed the one-nighter and that we’re all big fans of all of the varieties of videos. We went camping for the first time for my aunt’s 75th birthday party. They loved it. I set up my first two tents. We had good weather. And as a first time camper the number one goal I had was to have a nearby washroom for the step twos. We owe you a great lesson in how to get out there and Hunker Down. Thanks Steve.
Booooooooo 👎 👎 👎
Steve is entertaining and all, but with the ever-present glorification of alcohol, I'm not so sure family friendly is what I'd call this channel, lol
The food hack was genius! Good way to keep the moustache clean
You’re the man Steve! Thanks for the inspiration
I think the most alluring thing about even your simplest of videos is the fact that we can escape the daily grind of regular life through you. You are doing things our ancestors did, we were all travelers once upon a time. Your videos show what is no longer deemed "normal" in today's society but it's truly what a lot of people yearn for. Similar to VanLife. You go out there, and see even the smallest parts of the world on your time and on your rules. It's true Freedom.
THat is so TRUE he makes u feel like you are his family
Sometimes the short simple trips like this is just what the body and soul needs. Many years ago I lived in Northern Minnesota and would drive 20-30 minutes to camp and it was wonderful when I couldn't plan a long trip..
Beautiful country!!!
Mustard and sauerkroot is what it's all aboot, love Steve's channel
I'm sure I'm not the only one that is living through your adventures! Love your videos!
That’s funny. Wife and I are traveling in the States from Kentucky to Michigan. I would say say that’s a good spot for a stealth camp. We even hit a stretch in Northern Lower Michigan and said heck we could stay all week there.
You're showing us all a way to find something most everyone has tried to find again in their lives -- a second childhood -- without the pain of growing up again.
Steve Wallis = the Bob Ross of camping ☮️💚🏕️
Ever since I started watching your videos. My kids and I take lots more trips. Thanks.
This guy could sit in his home and say “I’m staying here tonight, here’s a video of me puttering around the house” and I’d still watch it. Always love to see a new video from you, Steve!
Edit: Love the Clearly Canadian appearance. Remembered those from several moons ago. Was glad to find them at some local grocery spots over the last couple of years.
Same here. Some of my favorite videos are him just setting up the gazebo on his acreage.
Some of Steve's early vids were basically home cooking vids. Also second the Clearly Canadian. They were my favorite as a kid. My sister just brought me a blackberry one the other day.
I'd totally watch a video of Steve and Crazy Neighbour camping out in a pillow fort in the lounge room.
Watching a Camping with Steve video is like sitting next to a cozy fire with a bowl of warm soup. Good for the soul.
Nice and relaxing.
We love you Steve!
When I was a kid, my family did a load of cross country travel and the sense memories of those places come back when I watch your videos.
All I care about is that Steve is still having fun doing this channel.
Same :)
Thanks Steve
That's a beautiful spot Steve!
Steve don't worry too much about creative video ideas... I just like to see you out camping doing what makes you happy. I watch for your personality. Looking forward to that next video
Cheers. Thanks so much
I love this!
Ahh your sense of humour Steve. Right on mate.
I’m out on my first night ever camping watching you camp. Inspired by you and Joe Robinet! Been years watching you guys and finally just went out and did it.
how'd it go?
I am I'm the same boat.
I'm also curious! Did it go well, were you safe?
@@bgirlpamsolo I think he died...
Haha it went great. At a spot right near the shore of the lake. Drive in camp ground. It was super hot but I had my dewalt fan with me. So glad I finally just got out and did and quit overthinking it. Will definitely be going again!
Thank you so much for all of your videos Steve! I'm an American who used to live about an hour drive from the Canadian border in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. I'm currently in medical school in Las Vegas, Nevada, and I miss the trees, mountains and lakes so much. I still have a few years stuck down in the desert, and I watch your videos to live vicariously through you to reimagine my years camping back in B.C., Idaho, Washington, and Montana. Your videos are always a lot of fun, and I cherish each one. Cheers!
No rope but a random pair of wheels for a mine cart?! Lol! I love this channel! You are a cool guy Steve!
Good stuff Steve, looking forward to the next one...
I'm glad you're feeling better, Steve. I got hit with COVID in early July, and it laid me out for two weeks. In that time, one of the small comforts I had was rewatching a lot of your videos. It gave me the sense of going outside while I was laying in bed. Your sense of humor and enthusiasm for the outdoors makes your videos so fun to watch.
I agree, it has laid most of us out and we are the lucky ones to have survived! Blessings to you and yours!
For me, watching you get out and have fun is more important than “adventure” you try to provide us. Good job!
Great video.
Thanks, Steve!
I love the videos Steve Wallis. I watch because you remind me of my Dad. Your humor, resourcefulness, kind nature, and love of a good meal (and fresh bread!) is like my Dad was. He didn't have much but he always had fun doing things he liked. Your videos encourage me to keep doing the things him and I liked to do together before he passed. Thank you. 😊
Such a cozy feeling, i can almost feel like im there in the warm wind of a beautiful road in a great area and a cool setup
I'm in Australia.. stealth camping is a way of life..
😂👍 I get extremely, p*ssed off at the mess & litter people leave behind.. some of you should be ashamed of yourselves & others should be giving themselves a big "pat on the back".. absolutely love how you push the idea of leaving a camping spot in better condition than you found it!!.. props!!
Love your clips Steve!!.. 🤘😁
🇦🇺🇨🇦
Yes I liked this video very much good job
Steve is a genius when it comes to using common things to survive in the outdoors.
It is always a pleasure, Steve, to watch any of your videos. You are such a decent, likeable guy.You have become a friend who lives on the other side of the world. Thank you.
Entertaining for sure
Love your channel and sense of humor !!!
I'm sure I speak for a lot of us when I say we don't want you to force yourself to make a video when you are sick, not because it will make a bad video, but because taking care of yourself is more important. As for me, I enjoy and prefer these simple, laid back videos. With all the chaos in the world, it's nice to have this content, to give a few minutes of respite and calm.
