Very informative,I will not stop eating rice no matter what I always wash at least six times, boil throw away the water then let it steam on low with tumeric included.
Serious Keto channel did a video about it recording his blood glucose. If you add fat like butter, it also blunts the glucose spikes. He has done videos on resistant starch with potatoes and bread, too.
Haha, up till now, it has been a labour of love. My experience with my RUclips channel the past year has taught me, based on the many negative comments on some of my previous videos, that not all viewers would appreciate my videos that aim to challenge people to think deeper, change their perspectives about the role of foods and diet on various chronic diseases, because many people were looking for and would actually prefer videos that simply say things like 'This xxx Rice is low GI and therefore good for diabetes and also has xxx, yyy, zzz nutrients as well as aaa, bbb, ccc health benefits ; but nonetheless, I will persist in making such videos that aim to give people what they need to hear rather than what they want to hear. So your comments is an encouragement to me and much appreciated. Blessings, Doc
Hi Doc, I found this video very useful. You did mention that you will be doing a video on parboiled rice because it’s scope is quite big. But I can’t seem to find the link or the video. Can you advise?
Par boiled rice is low GI as on first boil starches are removed.. Hence suggested to cook rice in vessal and take aside starch instead of cooking rice in cooker? To further GI you may add veges like Cauliflower or Broccoli etc
Very informative but GI of red rice are lacking, we have lot of traditional land races of red rice in Himachal Pradesh. I got estimated GI of red rice from Shimla hills. I found it 52 but it should be estimated for all landraces in Himachal Pradesh. Could you please help us in estimation of 4 to 5 landraces from Himachal Pradesh in India.
In many parts of Asia, including us in Singapore, rice is the number one staple. But must say that parboiled rice is less common than 'normal' white rice here.
WoW thanks to this video i can now make better choices in rice. Thank You Soooo Much. All my life rice is a huge part of our diet and now I realize that thinking I was choosing Basmati for brand, thought I was eating healthier choice and not necessarily. So misleading the market industry can be. Thank You Dr.
Thank you for your important work. I have heard that if rice is cooked and then cooled in the refrigerator the cooled rice will not spike blood sugar, is there any truth to that ?
Another interesting and very informative video, excellent work Dr. Chan! Rice is a huge staple of my diet, I eat rice every day and have been most of my life. My favourite rice that I've been eating all my life is white parboiled rice (long grain). However, I am overweight and trying to lose weight and improve my overall health by making positive, lasting changes to my diet. One month ago I decided to stop eating parboiled white rice and instead I'm eating only brown rice (long grain). I would love if you can make a video on explaining parboiled rice, specially white parboiled rice. Dr. I'm wondering if brown rice is actually healthier in terms of its nutritional profile vs. White parboiled rice? And if brown rice is better than white parboiled rice in terms of helping with weight loss/ not gaining additional weight? (of course I know that it depends on the portion size no matter the type of rice when it comes to weight loss/gain). Lastly, is black rice overall the healthiest type of rice? After watching this video I learned that black rice is whole grain and that it has the lowest GI index out of all the rices you compared, but I'm still unsure if it's the healthiest.
Hi Mark, if your overweight it means you have been over eating for many years. It's time to watch ur calories and slowly you should lose weight. Just like weight gain takes time, weight loss takes time but is faster.
@@befree9579 Hi, thanks for response and advice. You are right, I have been overeating for many years, but not all the time. I go through phases, I used to be very athletic, played sports and worked out a lot at the gym. About 5 years ago, I lost 50 lbs in 4 months from strictly diet and exercise. However I gained that weight back within 3 years. I tried counting calories before but it made me very stressed out and unhappy. I also had a bad injury and surgery a year ago so I haven't been working out. Also I have Metabolic syndrome so it's a lot easier for me to gain weight and harder to lose weight. I am going to start intermittent fasting this week and try it for one month to see how it goes.
@@markg.3214 Ah i see. ah ye counting calories is headache tbh. thats why i will permanently do interment fasting cause its a way of life. if u dont mind eating the same foods everyday its even easier. i notice having a weight barrier lets u remember u will never let urself go over that. say ur 6'0, don't let urself go above 170 lbs. so u wont have to do the annoying fat loss all over again.

Hi Dr! Your topics are interesting! On the topic on rice, do you have anything to share on germinated rice? I have been eating Japanese germinated rice recently, because of the supposedly good benefits and low GI .
Eating oatmeal or even whole grain bread would not give me the satiety that rice could. So I opted for herbal ponni rice. On the package, it says Low GI and carbs are only 36.12g per 100g or 27g per serving. My question is can we trust the manufacturer claims about their nutrients content because for white rice this claim seems too good to be true. I often heard about white rice being too high on GI and carbs in general. What is your take on this, doc? Tq
With respect to red rice, I do not think what you are reporting is completely accurate because there are varieties of red rice and these varieties have variations in their reported GI values. For instance the Kerala Matta rice has a GI of 36 which is lower than some varieties of black rice. I think to say black rice is better than red rice is an oversimplification.

Apparently cooking the rice then letting it cool and putting in the fridge for 24 hrs lowers the GI by about 50%

Dr Chan, do u have a full video regarding parboiled rice? Parboil rice and brown rice, which is more suitable for cancer patients? Thanks
So parboiled rice is the best. On the Gi index. In regards to common rice. Black rice you sont usually find. Thank you doctor
