I’m a Type 1 diabetic and here are a few simple tips: 1. Intermittent fast. I’ve been doing it for 8 years and it has 100% changes my health. STOP eating all the time. 2. Eat real food. Stop with the gimmicks. Protein like beef, chicken, lots of eggs, quality fats from grassfed butter, olive oil and avocado oil, low glycemic fruit like avocados, green apples, and berries. Simple. 3. Walk after eating. Even it’s a 10 minute walk it makes a difference. 4. Quality sleep. Put your phone away. If you have a doctor who doesn’t try everything before prescribing a pill you need to find a new doctor. You are in charge of your health not your MD.
My A1C was 6.0 and my doctor said I had to take metformin. I inquired about the side effects. He replied, "Well, they all have side effects." (He didn't know.). I asked if I could wait three months. He said, "No, you are losing your pancreas cells and you don't get them back." My cousin who works for another doctor said they do not prescribe medicine for an A1C of 6.0 but recommend diet and exercise first so I chose not to take the metformin. Instead, I cut out all cakes, pies, cookies, candy, etc and lifted weights, did cardio, and hiked frequently. I returned in three months weighing twenty pounds less and my A1C had dropped to 5.6. The doctor was surprised yet took offense that I did not take the metformin, "a highly effective drug." I told him I wasn't questioning the effectiveness of the drug but whether every doctor prescribes metformin with an A1C of 6.0." In the end, he asked if he could go hiking with me. But I chose to drop him as my personal care doctor.
My A1c came back at 6.2 as it was never high like this before. He told me to work on diet and exercise and we would check again in 3 months. Too many doctors want to throw prescriptions your way unnecessarily.
Your doctor doesn’t know what borderline A1C is: 5.8-6.4 .6.5 A1C or above is diabetic but normally if you are at 6.5 a1c range doctor will tell you to watch the sugar and high carbs food. I am glad to ditched your doctor and look for new one
Dear Dr. Axe, you have my go to for all health and diet questions for many years. I am 69 years old, and retired, which was a major improvement to my health, by not having any stress. I have prediabetes and high cholesterol. I also am genetically inclined to have Psoriasis. The last years of being an Intl. Flight attendant made it so bad, I was covered with it. Now, it's none existing and my prediabetes is under control. I tried taking stations but stopped taking them because the muscle twitches drove me batty and I couldn't sleep. I was on Skyrizi which helped a lot. When I retired I had to stop taking it because Medicare doesn't pay 100K a year. So, I went to your website and applied most all suggestions. Don't know if my cholesterol is ok yet. I have a test soon. Thank you very much for being my health Guru. Oh, my diabetes is under control. 73 in the am and 95-108 in the evening.

I love that he mentioned the stress factor. I was trying to cut out all sugar & carbs at once & I felt very very stressed, had a sick feeling, even lethargy & major brain fog & cobfusion... My sugar levels actually increased dramatically during those cold turkey days. Addiction to sugar is real. I finally decided to have some carbs & my blood sugar actually decreased to a normal level. The stress my body went through by cutting sugar carbs all at once had an opposite effect! The monitor was going crazy, way worse than before. I'm used to eating a certain way & realised the changes have to be gradual so my body doesn't get stressed. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
My A1c went from 6.9 to 5.6 in four months by changing my eating habits, taking some of the supplements Dr. Axe prescribes here and exercising on my Total Gym. I also lost 18 lbs.
Some recommendations: protein as meats, fiber from vegetables, lentils/beans/legumes, healthy fats found in olive oils/avocado/EVOO/coconut oil, berries, minimal carbs like sweet potatoes a day brown rice, use a lot of cinnamon 1tsp per day, fenugreek, 500mg Berberine 3x daily, Vitamin D 5k iu daily, k2, magnesium 300-500mg, chromium picolinate 200mcg 3x per day, vitamin B12, liver supplement, ALA 600mg daily, Gynnema Sylvestre 200 mg 2x per day, turmeric, probiotics, strength training, weight training, interval cardio, walking 20 minutes 3x per day. Beware Metformin, Sulfo???, Insulin side-effects.
I had my A1c checked last week for the 1st time. It was 5.7 Thing is, I've been low carb/ keto for 4 yrs. I've lost 35 lbs, stopped eating sweets, preservatives, bad oils and all fast food. I walk for exercise at least 5 x wk. My sleep isn't great, and stress is fairly high but can that be the reason it's high?
My husband had a kidney transplant 5 months ago. His blood sugar is 7. The kidney doctor says he must take a drug to reduce his blood sugar. The doctor says it is due to his anti-rejection drugs. He does not want to take a new drug to drop his sugar. He is exercising and has lost 15 pounds in the last 5 months. He loves his bread and and cereal. He had cut his carb intake lots and his blood sugar is still 7. What should he do? Cut more carbs?

Not everyone has the same level of insulin resistance. What may help someone in a month or two may take a year or longer for someone else. So don't be discouraged if no changes in a month or two. Reversing doesn't mean you can go back to eating tons of carbs again.
From my understanding, oatmeal, bread, and brown rice have A LOT of carbs and our body doesn’t care how “ancient “ it is, it still treats it as a carb/sugar.

I'm surprised you didn't mention intermittent fasting, OMAD and the benefits of going long periods without spiking insulin. Long time T2 diabetic taking supplements, no meds. Low carb diet with OMAD.
Sweet potatoes, rice, oatmeal never cause diabetes, other very high GI food do especially soft drnks, juices, candies, cakes etc that are full of concentrated simple form of sugar which you consume before the onset of the actual diabetes even when one is young. That's why lots of slim people also have it in Japan, surprisingly.

I’m trying to get my blood sugar situation under control. I was exercising through walking for about a mile or two a mile and a half and then I stopped because one day I wasn’t feeling so great. I was also eating some things that I shouldn’t be eating probably like bread and potatoes and some sweets. One day I took my blood sugar and it was on the high mark after eating. I started to adjust my diet and my blood sugar is better but I still get hungry at night and I’m not sure if I’m eating enough and my pulse is higher than usual. When I went to my doctor, he said everything looked OK so I’m trying to start my walking up again. Just doing it on a treadmill for right now and hopefully this will get me back to where I need to be. Being a person over 65 who has struggle with blood sugar issues for some time I am concerned. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
My A1c came back at 6.1, and I started intermittent fasting immediately as I knew I am in the pre diabetic range. I started having early dinner by 6 p.m and not eat anything till 7 a.m next day. My breakfast consists of just three boiled eggs and a cup of green tea. However, around 10 a.m I would start feeling light headed, shortness of breath and tingling on my hands and feet. This would get worse which would force me to have my lunch, which consists mainly of rice and veggies. After lunch the symptoms would subside and i would be back to normal. Why is this happening? Is it hypoglycemia? Are three eggs at breakfast not enough to sustain me for a later lunch? And since this is the case im afraid to go for longer fasts even if i want to.

A friend of mine who is type 2 said her doc told her to eat lots of vegetables. So she was eating lots of potatoes. I told her that potatoes were the absolute worst thing you could eat. Very starchy and spike your blood sugar. She refused to believe me because her doc said it was ok. I told her just measure your blood sugar before and after and see what it does.

What changes did you make to change your diet?
Hi, can you share your diet. I am new to this condition.pls advice
I don’t eat anything and am not overweight
Also exercise everyday and was diagnosed with pre diabetes 😢
@@teresacaloca8746hi! I was in very similar situatuon, had very low BMI, had a lot of physical activity, ate whole food mediterranean diet and suddenly found out incredible spikes after every meal I had. Now I partially improved the situatuon and would be happy if my experience can be helpful
@@teresacaloca8746I recently heard that could be caused by hormone imbalance. I also heard that Ana’s Wild Yams cream can help balance hormones. I’m not a doctor. I did hear this from Barbara O’Neil
Berberine lowered my A1C but also drastically lowered my B-12 causing B-12 anemia. My doctor neglected to tell me to supplement with B12 while taking Berberine.
Thank you Doc. Very informative❤
Thank you, Dr. Axe.
We appreciate you
Does that include alcohol! Thanks
❤ prep help, a lot. When you get into prep, you get into food rotation. I buy 2 of each supplement to always have one ahead. It’s expensive the first time and you just maintain and rotate.
My doctor told me my blood test showed 6.4 A1C pre-diabetic. He just said "no medicine is needed at this time, we will check it again next year! He never mentioned anything about diet
Excellent information Thanks
thank you Dr josh
Wow, very valuable information. Thank you Dr Axe

Resistance training. Put on the muscle.
Can you get a supplement or one that is a combination of these together 😊
Can you use Fenugreek powder?
Eat more healthy fats for breakfast like Avocado
A1C just went to 6 . Doctor prescribed actors, which I don’t want to take. Will follow your advise.
What type of magnesium. I already do a citrate
Actos? My father used to take that medicine, but he was warned that it might cause bladder cancer. Switch your dr. If you were prescribed actos.
You can find some magnesium that has all 3 types in one. I use the brand MegaFoods
Stop the citrate. Take taurate and glycinate.
Why not citrate?
Excellent...can one get an appointment with you?
Is quinoa ok?
My issue was with Prednisone took it due to inflammation in my aorta. Took it for like Jan 26-April 15 2021. Long term.
A1c 9.1. then got it done to 6.1 in 3 months. No meds.
Just ate what Dr. Axe said
I already really watch my carbs and exercise, but does cinnamon, ginger and turmeric help with preventing !!! ???
As long as you protect your liver from becoming fatty then your pancreas will be protected. When your pancreas also becomes fatty it’s then when you get diabetes. No sugars low carbs is the answer
Prevents inflammation
You are sooo awesome...
Love the information....❤️❤️💕💕💕💕💕💕❤️
Do you have a suggested diet and supplements for Gestational diabetes and insulin resistance in pregnancy? What are the best essential oils and exercises for Gestational Diabetes?

Can you use Berberine if you’re prediabetic? If so what brand do you recommend. Can you share info about the Chinese diet you follow. Thank you.
My A1c is a little high. I eat wholefoods and low carb. No hereditary issues. Do you have more suggestions? I don’t eat grains, except once a week. I do eat sweet potatoes once a week… rice almost nothing. I am cutting it all now. Any other suggestions?

This is not one size fits all. My mother has been fighting pre-diabetes for almost 2 years. She went from 5.9 to 5.6 in 6 months. 6 months later, she went up to 6.1 eating the same foods. She was so discouraged. Doctor, can you provide more insight into how it is difficult to get better glucose levels?
She should try fasting and use the magnesium, vitamin d that he recommended. Walking after meals really helps using up your glucose.
I think the CGM would offer her a lot of insight on what works best for her.
Fatty foods will increase insulin resistance
She may be late Type 1. She needs to be tested.
Nice summary, thx Doc❤
Could I please know what type of magnisium.
Thanks Doctor appreciated
What about vitamin C ?
Can i used full cream milk as a diabetic person
my a1c is 8.0 and my doctor gave me 3 months to reverse it. I’m change my lifestyle and exercise. is it ok to take coffee with organic sugar 1/4 tsp ?
MY A1C WAS 8.2 NO SUGAR AND WALKED, IN 3 MONTHS I GOT IT DOWN TO 6.2, VERY HAPPY, YOU CAN DO IT ❤
Way to go, Doc
Dr Axe, what will cause excessive sweat?
A friend of mine who is type 2 said her doc told her to eat lots of vegetables. So she was eating lots of potatoes. I told her that potatoes were the absolute worst thing you could eat. Very starchy and spike your blood sugar. She refused to believe me because her doc said it was ok. I told her just measure your blood sugar before and after and see what it does.
If your friend thinks doctors are gods, or basically that they know what they are talking about, there is nothing you can do for her.
Due to stress from a narcissist, I developed inflammation behind my eyes in 2019, ran to a&e and they referred me to a eye doc, since THEN, I developed cataract, glaucoma, eye pressure and uveitis through a wrong size tube implanted in my eye, spikes in my blood sugar which caused me to be pre diabetic, nothing but all meds induced. These chemicaxx also caused my immune system to stall soo healing was drastically slow, I was fully open to getting infections, viruses and bacteria, I had cut my hand and it took months to heal. I developed bruises on my leg, I only went in for cloudy eye with no previous medications xx or operations, but since I was referrxx, I’ve had three operations and my eyes still haven’t healed ( how can they, my immune system was made to slow right down), my eye stitches came lose three times and now they want to do another surgery to cut the tube implant that caused me to have uveitix. All these chemicaxx are the reason we get and stay ill.
Just to add, these steroix eye drops instigated all the other illnessex I have and prolonged use of them have taken layers off the white boot of my eye. They also cause bone losx.
@Shay3356 what a nightmare! So sorry you're going through this. I will keep you in my prayers.
Thank you
Can other factors cause the blood glucose numbers to be higher than usual? Such as kidney stones, infection?
Lack of sleep, being sick, having your periods, any inflammation or having high cortisol can make you temporarily more insulin resistant.
What about olives are they ok?
Well I do, they have no carbs, but may be salty.
Are there any supplement brands that you can recommend because I have found that some store brands are ineffective.
Are there any product brand recommendations for the supplements mentioned? I'm type 2 diabetes
Tq doctor you give me hope you are of great help
Thank you doctor!
How much your sugar should be after eating doctor
Thanks a lot
From sugar added foods and being overweight and not exercising.
You are the best
Thank you Dr.. I have been struggling for some time. The diabetes has caused me to be under weight though. I think that stress is a big factor and most people these days have stress. I have had a heart attack a few years ago and I was put on statin drugs after having two stents. I noticed after a few months a huge difference in energy and other things. I recently saw another video that showed the statins are directly related to my conditions . Are there any herbal supplements out there for bad cholesterol? Thank you.
Do. You hsve a diet book I can buy?
You mentioned a liver supplement. What are some suggestions?
Milk thistle and dandelion
