Sweetie you’ve got this! I’m 2.5 years from learning my stage 4 diagnosis (de novo). Life goes on and most days I’m not even thinking about it other than taking my pills. My doctor said think of this as a chronic illness that needs to be managed. It’s no longer considered a death sentence 🎉!

Dee, I appreciate your direct and honest approach to explaining your journey. I was diagnosed in 2007 stage 3B and took tamoxifen for 10 years nonstop. The side effects were horrible as I was also on a monthly shot that was being managed through a study. I had chemo, mastectomy, and radiation. I don’t drink or smoke and I try to live my life to the fullest. My fear of this illness retuning has always been very present and only those who have walked in these shoes truly understand the devastation when you hear the word cancer. I absolutely love your honesty in this video and I can totally relate. When my treatment ended in sept 2022, I did not have a big family gatehring to announce the fact I was cancer-free. Whenever I am asked if I am "cured" I simply say: for now, there is no evidence of disease, and leave it at that. It''s never really over, that is the sad truth about cancer.

I'm on targeted therapy, Ibrance, Anastrozole, Xgeva. I read a book called How to heal yourself from cancer. By William Sears, MD. I have been using it as a guide for food, etc. for about 6 months.
I was 1st diagnosed 7/2015, stage 1 grade 3. went thru surgery, chemo, radiation, anastrozole, for 3 yrs. Stopped because of side effects, cancer returned stage 4, mets in spine, ribs, in 2021. As of mid 2023, in complete remission, NED, tumor markers normal.@@payalpandey875
Yesssssss. I’m a nurse and a stage iv, metastatic breast cancer patient for over a year and a half now……a lot of people don’t realize that you can have multiple different types of cancer at once, BUT, METASTATIC is when the initial location, the primary location your cancer started in, the breast for example, means that if it metastasizes to your bones for example, you don’t have bone cancer, it’s the breast cancer that has spread to the bone. And so true that EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. That has had cancer is different. Someone could have the same exact cancer and same exact treatment, but their journeys can be completely different. Side effects, processing of it, pain levels, what they can tolerate food wise, if they lose hair or if it just thins or they may never lose hair……every aspect of each person’s journey is different.

I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, ER and PR positive, her2 positive in March 2011. I finished active treatment in June 2012 and followed that with 10 years of anti hormonal therapy. My oncologist has always been very clear that my cancer may recur, all i can do is live my life and look out for symptoms. And that's what I did. Your pragmatic attitude is exactly how I handle this issue. All of the best to you!

I had just been diagnosed and doctors are taking along the diagnostics before planning the adjuvant chemo then surgery .
I think I'm going to have to binge watch all your videos tonight! When I was first diagnosed, I considered documenting my journey on RUclips, but I couldn't hardly say the words "cancer" or "oncologist". I've had 2 surgeries and will be starting radiation. You are truly an inspiration! 💕

I’m on letrozle. I’ve been on it since March. I took a break because of bone and joint pain side effects. I also have hair thinning. But my hair is still growing since I lost it all from chemo. When I started taking letrozole again, I noticed taking it at night has been a game changer for me. The way my oncologist checks me is through blood work. I thought when you have double mastectomy you don’t do mammograms anymore? Praying for you Dee! You’re so beautiful and full of life. This isn’t going to stop you. You got this 🙏🏼💪🏼
Was your hair thinning from letrozole? And was the bone pain from letrozole? I’m also doing it at night, apparently that’s the best way - which I never did before with my AIs! I had the mastectomy on the left side and full node clearance so it’s mammo on the right and ultrasound on the left 😊
Great video Dee. Your diagnosis was identical to mine but 2 years ahead of me. I am Stage 3
C also so yes know it will return just don't known when. My onchologist told me she would be lying ro me if she told me I was cancer free at the end of my active treatment so like you I have just come to terms with that.

Hi! My Mum has a similar story like you and her type of breast cancer stage 4 is also the same. She is taking the same meds like you for over 3 years now with no side effects at all ( no hair loss etc.). She is stable and can live a normal life. Greetings from Germany!

I was diagnosed with IDC triple positive, stage 1A/2b with no node involvement in 2021. Your videos were wonderful in helping me to know what to expect from chemo, along with how to deal with everything while going through treatment. I was given an NED diagnosis after surgery (chemo was first) last year. Since this, I’ve had a full hysterectomy. I’m now on letrozol. I think you’re lovely, and appreciate how open you’ve been throughout your journey. I listen to you now and see your strength and wish you nothing but the best. I am so sorry you had trouble with Tamoxifen ❤❤.my mom had trouble when she first started taking it. It took awhile as she was nauseous for about four months. Eventually her body adjusted she finished the five yrs. And 12 yrs later. No cancer.
I am extremely sensitive to medications. Really really sensitive. So you have my deepest sympathy. I wish you the very very best. Keep up the battle!!❤❤❤

I completely understand about the anti-hormonal therapy and how hard it is. I'm just starting back on Zoladex and Anastrozole after a 3 month break. I stopped because of my mental health too. The risk was worth it to me because It makes me crazy and triggered for everything. It is terrible. Thank you for keeping us updated. You have our support for whatever you decide to do.

I hear you . I was diagnosed with Triple negative breast cancer stage 2 back in 2020. It came back last year , Nov 22. Stage 4 . I was being treated with chemo , Mass was reducing , but all of a sudden treatment stopped working. Petscan revealed mass had grown.Long story short . I begin tx this Wednesday 😢I’m dreading it. I hope I tolerate it okay .

If you have any dental work to do,do it before you start the Zoledronic Acid.Also get a brain MRI at least once a year.I've been on Tamoxifen for 2 and 1/2 years now,stopped Zoladex after 2 years.Stage 4 de novo with liver mets.After 6 months of treatment I was NED and still am after 2 years.Have faith,pray,do the treatment and God will help you!🙏
Are you not on anything now? How did the mets disappear?
@@DeeDoherty I'm only taking Tamoxifen now.I had 6 rounds of chemo,I had triple positive breast cancer.Herceptin+Docetaxel+Perjeta and Zoladex to shut down ovaries.I don't know if they have the same names there.I also switched to a healthy diet,sat home on medical leave and slept a lot.But most important,I believed from day 1 that this will go away and God will cure me.I still believe this no matter what anyone says.Sending prayers,stay strong!
Apparently, herceptine is very good. Even for mets. So to be her2+ is somewhat what saves you. Recent studies shows that it can help with people with low her+

Dee I say the same about my cancer, I never say I bet it, I say I’m in remission of it if there are no signs or symptoms of it but I never ever say I’m cancer free because I’m terrified it’s still hiding inside of me. I was diagnosed Nov 2020 with clinical stage 2B grade 3 triple negative breast cancer but I was negative for any of the BRACCA genes and negative for any of the cancer causing genetics. I was cleared for another year back in June 2023 to now be 2yrs in remission.

@@DeeDoherty well that was until a couple weeks ago when my routine blood work from my family Dr came back a bit off. I had been feeling very tired and thought maybe my thyroid meds needed adjusting but My blood platelets ended up being low and some other blood issues was a bit concerning so my family Dr said she would feel better me going to see my oncologist and now I’m waiting to get an appointment to see her. I travel 3hrs away to see my oncologist at an amazing cancer center here in eastern Kentucky so to me it’s well worth the travel but I pray all will be well for us both sweet Dee. ❤️

I was on Kisqali for a month before my insurance decided they were not going to pay for it and I prefer it over Verzenio which I’ve been on. The diarrhea that verzenio causes me daily is horrible. With Kisqali you’ll have to get your heart checked as well as your bloodwork. I’m also on letrozole. I don’t get sleepy but I have noticed I’ve gotten very emotional and anxious. I also get tired more easily The hot flashes from medical menopause are terrible. I like you want to work. I don’t want to stay on disability and I’m looking for a job.

Hi, Dee. I also couldn’t tolerate the anti-hormone pills. For over 5 years now I’ve taken it only every 3rd day plus I take 2 anti-anxiety drugs every day. So far so good. Maybe your doctor would go for a modified routine like that. Best of luck to you!❤
Hi Dee, so sorry to hear of the recurrence. I would like to offer some information I have slowly learned over many years of science based research related to a 10 year "adventure" with my wife who has stage 4 met breast cancer. Not meant to be advice but just information sharing. From a very high level cancer rates have dramatically risen over the last 100 ish years. One in two men and nearing one in two women will have to deal with cancer in their lives. Younger and younger people are now afflicted. Cancer is rarely genetic in origin or passed down from parent to child despite what is commonly thought. It is however, in most cases, strongly tied to diet and lifestyle. As consumption of junk food, chemicals and animal products have risen, either in America or other countries, cancer rates, cardio vascular and all manner of other chronic diseases has also risen markedly.
Cancer is not really a disease, nor is it entirely unpredictable. Cancer is a normal transition of a cell's metabolism from aerobic to anaerobic largely brought on by an inappropriate/toxic micro environment around the cell which is strongly linked to what we eat. Nearly anything we ingest, including food, will "communicate" with your cells and can alter various functions of the cell at various levels including the mitochondria and nuclear DNA. If the cell gets the wrong set of instructions it can alter how it functions in an attempt to survive in what it sees as a hostile environment. Much science bares this out.
In the late 1960's, well regarded scientist T Colin Campbell found a strong link between animal derived protein (meat/eggs/dairy) and cancer which has been replicated a number of times since. This relationship does not seem to hold with plant based protein. There can be other drivers of cancer but this is a primary source as animal consumption has risen over the last 100 years with cancer rates. The WHO classifies many animal products as carcinogens for a reason.
You did not get cancer because of a lack of chemo or radiation or bad genes or bad luck. Broad studies have shown again and again that a whole plant based (preferable organic/raw) diet as one that thwarts cancer at every level absent junk food, refined carbs, animal products. Adopting such a diet will not resolve your cancer on its own (although it can happen) but it will reorient your "inner terrain" to stop promoting the cancer process.
The presence of a tumor is not the disease but only a symptom of a toxic environment. Removing it, while sometimes necessary, will not remove the disease process. Chemo and radiation can only do so much and often fail in the long run as they do not address the underlying cause. Beyond diet you may also look into fast mimicking diets (Prof Valter Longo), methylene blue, high dose melatonin (very important), high dose IV Vit C, ALA, curcumin, dca and off label drugs (Care Oncology/Jane Mclelland) that block "metabolic pathways" which is the ability of cancer to get food. These scientifically backed modalities can be used as an adjunct to "standard of care". Cancer is best fought on many fronts all at once. Unfortunately mainstream oncologists are not aware of many scientific findings that can be used as an adjunct to traditional treatment making it much more effective with far fewer side effects and damage to healthy tissue and in many cases resulting in long term resolution.
My wife (55) is currently having multiple rounds of chemo on the heals of week long fasting (fast mimicking) and high dose melatonin and to the surprise of her oncologist has had virtually no side effects and her immune numbers bounce back very quickly and strongly. He even checked the dose he prescribed to make sure she was getting all of it. All his other patients get very sick with what she is getting. Both fasting and melatonin have been shown to greatly increase the effectiveness of chemo (and extending its shelf life) while protecting healthy cells. Both fasting and melatonin are very anti cancer in their own right.

Thank you for sharing! I stopped anti hormonal treatment for exactly the same reason! I can’t remember but I think I tried three different meds and felt horrible emotionally with every one. I finally feel validated!

Hi Dee, just come across you. I had estrogen + back in 2015 and diagnosed stage 4 bone Mets in 2021. My cancer has switched to her2 positive and Er negative. Had chemo and now on 3 weekly infusions of phesgo and 3 monthly bone strengthening injections. Onc has also put me on letrozole as initial cancer was er +. I find letrozole ok. I had mets in my shoulder but had a shoulder replacement but still have mets in my pelvis. This has been stable for almost 2 years x
Youre so brave love, i just got diagnosed had first chemo....im at mile 1 of the marathon. I dont know how ill do it but stories from everyone i find on youtube keep me going. I hope you are doing ok as this post was 7 months ago. Thank you for your courage.
Hi Dee I have been on Letrozole for almost 3 years now. I have experienced the usual side effects but have been mostly able to cope with them. Taking the tablet at night definitely helps. I thought it would be worth mentioning that I have found the different brands of Letrozole can sometimes make a difference. It seems to be the fillers and extras they use. I was on the same brand (Accord) for the first 8 months and was fine. Then all of a sudden I was given Teva and found it awful. One brand may be ok for one person but not another. Doctors and pharmacists used to Pooh Pooh this and say they are all the same but some are now actually agreeing that it can make a difference. So if you struggle it may be worth trying a different brand. I hope this is helpful and wish you all the very best with your treatment.❤

As I have said in a comment on your last video, I agree that you should still work if that is what you need. Everyone should do what they need to do in order to be happy. Routine is important, whether its through work or a hobby. Those of us who are bedridden and don't work, wish we could work and have that kind of structure and normalcy in our lives. If you can and want to work, you should! Please don't feel guilty about that or worry about what anyone thinks. :)
I know! I know you’d love that routine. And I was thinking of you when I said this… but just in the way that I wasn’t trying to say it’s a choice. I know you have no choice in the matter. And I just didn’t want it to come across that way. Hard to explain. But I also know I may end up that way too, and perhaps a lot sooner than I expect. Hi Dee I am praying for you. I understand how you feel with hormonal therapy not sure if this will help. To help me tolerate side effect of hormonal therapy especially zoladex. I have onc allergist who help desensitized cancer patients so 5-7 days before zoladex i get allergy shot. My oncologist had to change aromatase inhibitors several times. Also check with oncologist if you can take collagen to help leg pain from A.I. also remember drink a lot of water before and after chemo. They want the chemo in and out fast. Protein is so important. I too had some bad side effects from my 2 chemo but found natural ways to help minimize and prevent many side effects. I am praying 🙏 for you. I know you're in different country than me so maybe some of the suggestions may not help.
I quit the Aromasin after 2 years.
Currently not on anything besides a wing and a prayer. I wanted to unalive myself also on the hormone therapy, that was the worst kind of hell I’ve ever known. Some may say a recurrence is worse than the pill but I beg to differ. Wishing you the best as you go through this journey again.

Hello Dee, I just found your site.I am a breast cancer with Mets to 7 out of 13 lymph nodes.This happened in 2005 so quite a long time in the ca.world.I took Femara /Letrozole for 10 yrs.I didn't have any bad side effects, very little intermittent bone soreness, but with no estrogen, you know how it is. I had AC but I declined taking Taxil the side effects terrified me so I decide to take the old AC.Hope you feel better when your treatments start.🌝
Yes I was the same when I had cancer in 2018, it had spread to the nodes - also did AC and Taxol … thankfully don’t have to do that again!!! Glad you’re doing so well!
This might sound silly but know that many people pray for you. I honestly hope that you have a good response to this treatment. There are a few studies of small patient cohorts who are super responders and they are technically cured.
I also got my diagnosis Sept.17 with breastcancer Stage 3 had the same treatment like you with this horrible hormontherapie, always high cancermarker, but dont know if I have metastases. I also say never that I am healed. Best wishes to you and your family
I have been on letrozole and Ibrance for 4 years. I get a Zometa drip every 3 months and I get a b-12 shot every 6 weeks. I am thriving, not saying there are no side affects but they are totally tolerable.💖 Best wishes

Thank you for this. All of this. I was Dx Jan 2016 with IDC HER2+ only. Can't recall size and stage, but no lymph involvment. Had lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. Finished Tx near the end of 2017. Last June, 6 1/2 years later, I got ILC, triple positive. So-not a recurrence, a second primary. Again, not sure of size and stage, but no lymph involvement this time, either. I tested negative for the gene, though there is cancer on both sides of my family. Had chemo, a double mastectomy, estrogen blockers (still on them) and no radiation. I was post menopausal for both cancers (67 now.) My initial Dx for this cancer was Met because of size of tumor and there was a question about lesions on my liver. I prepared myself to die, then they reversed my Dx. I still figure it's gonna come back at some point-I take your view. And it haunts me that I would get annual mammos with ultrasound every year pre and post the first cancer, until 2019, when the radiologist stopped recommending ultrasound. I wonder if that tumor was growing in me for those 3 years undetected, then showed up HUGE in 2022? If I had insisted on a Dx mammo/ultra instead of a screening mammo and take the radiologist's word for it...I would still have had a second primary, still had the double mastectomy, but perhaps would have caught it earlier. Like you explained in the previous video, those Met cells could just be hanging out, waiting.There is so much a person with cancer has to know and ask and advocate for. These drugs may fix something at the same time that they are damaging something else-so you are always juggling. People that know, know. People that don't are amazed at the complexity of this disease. Thank you for being so straightforward, knowledgeable and positive. It is refreshing. Live your life, darling.

I so agree with you . I cannot take the hormone blocker anatrazole so they have changed me to letrazole if it’s as bad I just cannot do it . I have no quality of life the migraines are terrible along side mood change terrible bone pain … my cancer seems very similar to you but it come back first time I had triple x very aggressive this time it’s hormonal had spread through my lymph nodes and also to my skin …. I hope you go on ok sending all my love cancer is complicated and every person is so different …. I’m at the hospital this week as found another lump in my other breast … I hate cancer …. If it’s MBC it’s always the same cancer that has spread . I’m on targeted therapy too …. Oooh I can letrazole is crap but everyone is different ….. I hate it … people who don’t have cancer don’t understand how hard it is ..❤❤❤

Two books~ What does it take to get well by Dr. Lorraine Day M.D. and Life, Cancer, God by Paula Black (the doctor mentioned in Paula Black’s book is Dr. Lorraine Day). God bless you on this journey. Both of these women had end stage breast cancer and were given months to live. They are both alive today 30 years after diagnosis and have been cancer free.
Dr Day is one to avoid at all costs. Sister died with breast cancer because she read Dr Day and did not get a lumpectomy.
@@karenbickford8451 I can count on too many fingers women I know who did everything their conventional doctor told them to do..surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. And they died!

My Kisqali: hair thinning but nobody notices it. Nails need to be kept very short because they will try to fall out. Extremely dry everywhere !!! Could be the hormonal treatment. Started everything at once so no idea
My calcium infusions : no side effects whatsoever
My bone biopsies were traumatic.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I very much appreciate this video. My doctor has me on Lynparza. Originally 2 pills twice a day and I was completely ready to quit it altogether. I was consistantly in a fog and the moment I was coming out if it I had to take another dose. He finally agrees that something is better than nothing and halfed my dose to just 2 pills at night so that I sleep through the fog and I'm so happy that it was something he was willing to work with me on. I truly hope something is better than nothing, but again I appreciate your honesty and your willingness to share. I will maintain hope and I wish that for you as well.

My sister Breast Cancer is back. She was cancer free for 3 years.
Samantha Lynn on youtube got very sick from tamoxifen too so she quit and sadly got her cancer back too. It must be so hard what to do, being constantly sick is no life either and it could come back anyway. So from these stories I personally would probably really try to stay on those medications but important to remember everone makes their own choices, some prefer shorter life to be able to feel good instead of feeling sick.

I took anastrzole for 5 1/2 years and no issues. Taking and discontinuing it. I had the Dcis with micro invasion. I had 2 surgeries. I opted against radiation. Also they did not find any thing in the lymph nodes. This was back in 2016. I hope you will be fine. Ihope and pray you will beat this!!❤
I’m also stage 3 with 6 lymph nodes involved taking Letrozole for 10 years and Zometic acid every 3 mths for 2 years . My oncologist said no guarantee that cancer will not come back and the scan anxiety is horrible , currently waiting for results. Good luck 🤞

Stage 3 as well. My tumor was 7cm bunch of lymph nodes 42 years old. Like really?!!! I’m praying for all of us that they figure out how to keep the beast sleeping. Keep strong girls!

My gosh. I feel the same way. I was told that my cancer was gone, following the pathology report after my bilateral mastectomy. I don't think I will ever feel clear.

I know what you mean about assuming it would come back. I was stage 1a. No lymph involvement. I was assured I had the best prognosis I couldved hoped for and honestly I dont think the doctors give it a second thought when its that early. Thwy act like worrying about a recurrence is silly. They say its "So unlikely". I had mammograms evey 6 months for two years and they all came back "clear". I kept thinking "Itll be back". After two years they said "Ok, you just need one mammogram a year now"... I said " No, youre scanning me twice a year". So they scheduled me for an MRI 6 months later... which caught my local recurrence. I dont know why I thought it would come back, but I just knew it wasnt done with me.
Good for you for insisting. I wish I had pushed for ultrasound even though radiologist said no need. Keep advocating for yourself...

One book: How to Starve Cancer by Jane McLelland.... alive 20 yrs after a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. She in the medical field and has figured there are different pathways to each type of cancer and how to starve it.
Under the care of a holistic doctor, this is basically what I did. Doing so, saved me from having a breast removed. The protocol the holistic doctor put me on killed the small mass and shrank the other by the same size! No conventional treatment. Pre and post surgery treatment was holistic. Just entered year five cancer free. Even if the cancer came back, I've live pain free, no side effects, long or short term, no medications, no chronic fatigue, no hair loss; basically I'm living my everyday normal life with a different perspective. So normal, that only four people knew I had cancer. And, I'm from a relatively large family and have lost of nieces, nephews, cousin's, aunts and uncles; and my parents!
I have read that book and took her online course, really good info and there is also a ton of medical info for specific methods and cancers on pub med. I have learned so much , but boy this stuff takes a lot of work and effort I have stage four thymoma metastatic to the pleura. I did chemo only had a partial response for six months during surgery they found to much cancer to remove it all so they aborted surgery thank God , I have not had treatment in 1 1/2 years , I do extended water fast every month and a keto diet the rest of the time all cancer is different. My doctors are becoming increasingly suprised at my progress, I have been stable since January 2023, all I was offered was palliative uncurative chemo which I would essentially continue one after another until my options were dissolved, I decided to try a protocol I found on pub med if things didn’t work out I would have to consider the treatment that would never rid me of cancer , but definitely have it’s way with my body , I have pain due to the abundance of nerves in the pluera, but I am living life , other than that pain I am doing exceptionally well , and no growth for 9 + months , it can be done in some cases. A holistic doctor is not covered by insurance but I am managing this cancer with God , will power, and very little monetary investment. But this takes time and ALOT of effort . Cancer is nasty and I hope everyone is healed I’m so happy for you if you have any info please let me know , cancer is tricky you have to be versatile in your attack ! Good luck and God bless ps I am under the care of an oncologist who I openly share everything with she monitors me and is suprised with my status , she is not involved in my protocol. She is there to make sure I am safe and remain healthy and if she feels we’re taking a turn she will be there to figure out the best route to take.
Sorry for all your losses, a lot of people don’t like the idea of alternative medicine.

I was diagnosed in 2018 stage 4 with liver Mets (de novo) I’ve been stable on herceptin/perjeta infusions every 3 weeks for 5 1/2 years with no recurrence!

I would suggest u go on a high turmeric based diet which contains , curcumin, not saying it will cure the cancer completely but it can definitely help heal your body , one thing u must do is look at hollistic approaches to treatment , As the doctors never suggest this , as it’s not in there best interests , this is your life and u need to look at all possible treatments

My mom had breast cancer but my sisters and I tested negative for the DNA gene that Angelina Jolie has. I thank God I have not had breast cancer. I get 3D mammograms because I have breast implants. I suggest that to all women. I will pray for you and all who have cancer. God bless you.
Omg, i met someone with a similar story! Got my DCIS diagnosis last June after two aggressive biopsies. It was grade 3, but just DCIS. I was told o had all the time in the world to pick a perfect surgical team. Picked in December and dmx happened Feb 1st. It was 6cm at my biopsies. By removal it was 56 which included IDC, also grade 3. Then they found it went to a lyph node and March 6th found many spots in my liver. No radition, but on my third week of chemo: taxol, Herceptin, amd Perjeta for my triple +++. I feel so young at 47 to have this, but then I have seen so many women in their 30's, even 20's who have stage 4. What is going on?!
