I think you missed out on one of the most fun aspects of Kava, the Kava Ceremony! First time I had Kava, was at a resort in Fiji. The locals put on a very nice Kava ceremony for us. They prepared the Kava, it was in a large bowl in front of the leader, with everyone sitting cross legged on the floor in a circle. The leader would look at you and say "Kava?" You were to respond with "high tide" for a full cup, "low tide" for a half cup, or "tidal wave" for a bigger cup! you would say "Bula" clap once receive the Kava, drinking it in one gulp. Handing the cup back, clapping three times and saying "Ma-tha". The Kava I had was just the root, no other flavorings. It tasted earthy. You immediately notice the numbing of lips, tongue, mouth and a bit in the throat. I found the effect after a couple cups to be more subdued than alcohol. More a feeling of calm and relaxation. The Fijian people are lovely, I highly recommend a real Kava ceremony with native Fijians! I felt the Kava had less motor skills impact on me than alcohol, with a greater calming effect. It was fun, and we made sure to partake of Kava ceremonies several times while in Fiji.
I know this is an old video but I just found it and the description of “smells like dirt” has me laughing out loud! That’s exactly what I called kava “the dirt drink”
Careful with Kratom. Literature will tell you that it is “non-habit forming”; my wife has gotten addicted to it to the point she drinks it 3-5 times a day at double the recommended amount for her weight, and gets all the typical withdrawal symptoms (headaches, nausea, sweats, etc) if she doesn’t have any for a few hours. Also it smells and tastes like dried grass clippings.
I am a regular user, & can also confirm that it is most definitely addictive. I suffer from chronic pain, & so I don't give it much thought. I had quit before, & went through all the symptoms. Now that I started using it again, I force myself to only use the least amount, twice a day. I know I will have to quit again at some point, but I know I can do it. It just sucks for a couple of weeks. If your wife wants to quit, & could use some tips, feel free to message me back. ❤😊
@@Parrotgirl-tattoo Have you ever tapered off Kratom slowly? I cut way down on the amount back when they threatened to schedule it to "1" making it COMPLETELY illegal. It was around 5 yrs ago. I didn't want to be left high and dry so I weaned myself to nearly HALF the amount (very painlessly) thinking that it would be easier to cut the rest out if it DID become schedule 1. So now my dose is 2gm once or twice daily. I was doing about 3.5 gm twice daily. That new small amount keeps the tolerance level stable.... so I feel the "magic" every day... I always weigh it on an accurate digital scale. Otherwise, you can never really know your dose. Just skipping an occasional cuppa or having a day sans kratom really preserves the effects. It feels more akin to my "coffee habit" than a full-scale addiction. I've tapered my coffee ingestion to the point where if I miss my morning cup, I don't get headaches like I used to. It's amazing how much of our coffee/kratom consumption is only for "servicing tolerance" rather than keeping us "lifted".
@@Parrotgirl-tattooI'm not the wife, but... YES! ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Also have chronic pain (likely fibromyalgia, plus multiple back problems) This stuff allowed me to reclaim my LIFE. BUT... I need to "reset". I am and need to stay active, but I can't tell rn how much help from "k" I'd actually need if I started from "here", ya'know? So, I've heard about something to do with gabapentin, but I don't understand it. Other than that, "keep moving, sweat, and SLEEP" seem to be all I know 😅 I've never actually "reset" and the last time I went a (forced!) couple days without was many years ago. I can go 4-6 hrs, but more is rare. Not sure if I should reduce frequency, amount per, or just "cold turkey". If I have an actual PLAN I'll likely be able to stick to it. But, just the "see what I can do" method gets me nowhere. I've managed largely with rotating strains, but even that is kinda confusing 😢 If there's ever ANYTHING actually effective for fibromyalgia I'll try it, but right now this is all I've ever found. I think I rambled sorry! 😅 Thanks!
@@born2reign90 It didn't help with my hypertension too much. But it did help with my social anxiety. The downside is that it made me pretty drowsy. I meditate and excercise now to control both my BP and anxiety and they work really well for me.
Would not recommend Kratom. My ex got bad withdrawal after drinking it regularly. Luckily I didn’t even get to that point because I puked my insides out the first time. Not fun!
I love you Ali, love your videos, but Kava has been around for a long, long time. It's been for sale in health food stores for at least 25 years. Kava tea is at the grocery store.
I'd like to see what you think of Kratom. It's a weird herb. A little bit can wake you up and feel motivated and if you take a higher dose you'll be on your way to dreamland. I will warn its not a good solution to chronic problems, if you take it daily you'll end up with symptoms of opiate withdrawal when you stop taking it.
What how was it so easy for Ali to tell her friend to chug it compared to it taking a while for Ali to finally chug it, also pro tip after a few drinks in you start to feel warm & cozy & will forget about the taste while feeling your tongue being somewhat, if not completely numb.
I would love to see you experiment with Kratom! I've used it on and off for a couple years, and haven't really seen any coverage. It gives me energy, makes me happier, and can even be used to suppress cravings from food or even other drugs! You helped me find Kava so hopefully this message helps you find Kratom!
I was hospitalized by kratom. I used the strand that made me feel focused and I was studying a second language and I loved my focus but I drank it 3 times a day and my liver enzymes went up ⬆️ I worked but have to be careful
@chokethewoke746 I just blend the Kava powder and spring water in my ninja, pour it in a vessel then just drink it with no straining, I give it a stir up now and then if the top goes frothy. I just drink it like it's beer, the taste doesn't bother me. I'm 3 months sober after getting drunk 7 days a week so I thought I might try Kava so I'm not so lost and bored.
Cava for some is better than alcohol and makes them giggly and relaxed, but for me… It was like drinking, dirty water that numbed my tongue. No effect what so ever!!
Wow, not to sound sexist, but this is the best female-based RUclips channel I have ever encoutered. You are very interesting as a person and I really love your style of explaining things!
Is this true or just speculation? I can go without alcohol for a long while but was looking for an alternative. The last i found was Phenibut but taking it i found diminishing effects over event just 3 weeks
Water suspension of Kava is perfectly safe for 1,000's of years. The problem is when you extract with alcohol or add alcohol with it. That causes liver damage.

Kava, weed and Diazepam. 🙂
Have you already tried Barney Stinson's Hangover Cure Drink? Would be interesting to see that (:
