  • Wilson’s True Zero RDS Mount
    We have received some questions and inquiries about Wilson’s red dot mounting system: True Zero.
    The True Zero RDS mount consists of cutting the slide for interchangeable plates. These plates correspond to different makes of pistol optics. They also have a rear fixed site that is drift-adjustable.
    This system is offered as both a factory OEM option or aftermarket.
    At the time of this video, we have just over 3000 rounds though this pistol. All shot with the RDS on top. No issues. No movement. No problems.
    Sincerely,
    Marky

    So far so good. The Wilson RDS system is working great and I think looks very good on a 1911. Doesn't sit nearly as high as some other options.

      I agree with the thought that red dots will be more widely used in the future. I'll leave that for you younger ones to deal with. HAHAHA. 😎

      I think it sits extremely high. Probably even higher than my staccato which is high as well. I’m having a hell of a time deciding to get optic cut or not. Not to make matters worse can’t decide between EDC X9 or Experior compact or magwell or not lol. It’s for carry so would be better off without magwell but I could care less about printing really

      @@1stAmendmentfukyoutube Couple of points:
      1. Most plate system don't sit as low as they possible could because there is a plate. So you could go direct mount. But…that means you are committed pretty much forever on the exact RDS.
      2. The SRO on my gun is by design a large optic. A RMR style is significantly smaller and will appear as such aesthetically.
      3. If you are looking at X-frame eXperior (double stack), I suggest you take into consideration your hand size when it comes to the magwell. If you can hold a G19 perfectly, you probably don't need the magwell for fit. For me, a G19 is too small of a grip, as such I prefer the magwell on the X-frame guns for complete hand purchase.
      But consider something…the X-frame magwell isn't like any other magwell on the market. It doesn't take the bottom of the gun huge. And still allows for a 15 rd to fit…basically flush with the gun.
      So in my case, I can pull out the 18, load a 15rd mag, and the grip/frame on my full size X9L is significantly smaller. Wilson really put A LOT of thought into the X-frame.
      Finally…as for the X9 or the eXperior compact, they are both 4" uppers. The major differences being the X9 upper is built / designed more like a modern striker gun in how it locks and unlocks, extractor, etc.
      The eXperior upper is very much like a traditional 1911.
      I personally bias towards larger guns since I am a larger guy with largish hands. I have never messed with a 4" X9 or the 4" eXperior double stack. But my X9L and eXperior 5" guns are unstoppable monsters so far.
      Hope this helps.

    Can you describe how to adjust the rear sight for windage? My rear sight from the factory is off center but there are no instructions how to do it or which Allen key to use. Thanks

    • @John1911
      @John1911  2 месяца назад

      1. It’s a drift adjustable sight. The key might be locktited.
      2. Doesn’t matter if “it’s off center” in the dovetail. Is it mechanically zeroed? Have you shot the irons to confirm? Wilson may have drifted that sight intentionally.
      Shoot the gun and confirm zeros. Adjust accordingly. That is what the dovetail is for.

    Hi, thanks for the video! I'm wondering what it looks like without the red dot? Do you get a kind of steel plate to fill in the gap (if you want to use the pistol without the red dot)?

    • @John1911
      @John1911  3 года назад +1

      The mounting plate from Wilson has a rear sight installed. If you send me an email through our website, I can sent some pics of just the plate installed. Can’t link them on here.
      If you image search a Wilson True Zero some without RDS will show up.

    If I call up wilson combat and say "hey I want this EDC X9 to come with a trijicon rmr installed" will they just do that and send it out? I'm guessing out the door the cost would be $2,500-3000. What you think?

    • @John1911
      @John1911  3 года назад

      I don’t know. You would have to call them. I would expect that any RDS you were to buy from them would be more expensive than on the open market.

    But why do they call it their “True Zero” system? And is it the typical mount where the plate is secured to the slide and then the RDS to the plate?

    • @John1911
      @John1911  2 года назад

      1. They have to call it something. Ask them, I don’t know why.
      2. I believe they machine a recoil lug under the plate to absorb the reciprocating force. Not the screws.
      3. Their plates have an access hole to EDC X9 / SF9 owners can remove their external extractor.
      4. Looking at the plate, I would imagine they designed it in such a way as to look aesthetically pleasing on a 1911. This is because a 1911 slide is usually much slimmer than on modern striker guns. Most plates would leave sharp 90 degree angles when installed on a 1911.
      Hope this helps.

    Any clue what the dovetail cut is on the plate in case I want to use a different rear iron sight

      I do not. I suspect the info might be listed on Wilson’s website under the parts section.

      I can’t imagine it would be any different their the bulk of their dovetailed sights. Having a custom cut for one plate seems inefficient.

    Too bad Xs doesn’t allow the option.

      Jason Trewin EDC X9 and X9L both allow for standard irons or having it cut for the RDS. Aka...True Zero.
      Or am I not understanding your statement?
