The idea that Game of Thrones had vague enough politics for any ideology to see itself in is absolutely correct. The Others aka the White Walkers simultaneously represent the threat of climate crisis and a wave of mysterious foreigners that are going to irreparably change the land.
to their point that the show's success is proof that TV is bad compared to film, I disagree that it's the point. The reason GoT had the success it had as a series when the same story would have been kinda forgettable as a film is that the runtime makes the world and characters more believable, where a movie, even a hrs one would have had to skip so much taht the whole thing would feel like carboard, the same way, say, the recent star trek movies felt insignificant. the same way the hobbits eating and smoking pipe were what made the lord of the rings world believable, the endless conversations in GoT made us immersed - and they get to do it with more politics, geography and morally conflicted characters whereas a movie has to do with broader archetypes and a more linear plot.
frankly, while I read a lot of fantasy as a kid and teenager, the general geeky discourse around the show and books really made me not want to watch and read them
@@Philbert-s2cthe story essentially "ends" at the end of book 3, "a storm of swords." And we got very weak, meandering books 4 and 5 and then he gave up because, yeah, the story isn't going anywhere really.
@NoName-lq6vw what really makes me kind of wonder why the books are still well regarded, is the fact that GRRM hasn't written a universally praised book in the series for over 20 years. He has only put out 2 books that were originally one before it got bloated into the meandering messes that AFFC and ADWD are. @@carsen1GTFO the TV show definitely does, the books are much better. Just rewatching the battle episodes of GoT is like trump fast forwarding movies to get to the violence
Great minds think alike
Trump probably doesn't watch tv
Yeah, you have to skip the entire first season and most of the second to get to any battles

I just realized that game of thrones, the marvel movies and the star wars sequels all ended in 2019
Thanks forbidden fruit you are new Acid marxist
Damn Matt read the books out of impatience
I literally know a couple who named their daughter Arya. Complete trash 😂
I worked in a portrait studio. You wouldn’t imagine the number of baby aryas robs and kalessies popping up mid 2010s
There has to be an 8th grader named Khalessi now

29:54 You underestimated the sisterhood. I died. Very funny.
Game of Thrones being a TV series version of Marvel movies is an interesting take but a really dumb one.

HotD is to GoT what Jaehaerys is to Maegor. The predecessor may have fucked up in the end, but the successor is doing pretty good so far
Absolutely amazing art GoT was... Until it wasn't

what's gambo?
Matt’s nickname for Game of Thrones
I heard some people say things like the white walkers or like global warming
So we just need to stab the clouds with silvery daggers
It fits though. Yes it's an unnecessary thought to have, but it does fit
