Great video! I appreciate how clear and articulate and enthused you are about the whole process. Couple quick questions for you if you don't mind. For Mod 3 you say around the 27 minute mark of this video that officers in training may be awarded with a weekend off base if all goes well. But in so saying you imply NCMs, with the shorter training window are not eligible for such an award. Is that accurate? I know someone in Mod 2 hoping to do Mod 3 soon and am looking at logistics of meeting up with them before, on weekend during or after training if possible. It seems before and after would hinge around military issued prearranged travel plans we would have no control over. And are likely not to involve off base civilian accommodations at any point. Is that accurate? If they are not allowed off base on weekends, are civilians allowed to visit trainees in Valcartier? Or would that conflict too much with weekend activities? What about the graduation ceremony at the end? I appreciate the content and commitment to clear accurate information. Thanks,
Thank you for the excellent detailed question. NCMs do not get a weekend off during the course, and visitors are not allowed. Guests are normally invited to the graduation parade. The best time to plan to get together will be immediately after graduation. Usually the flight is the following morning and graduates will be allowed to get accommodations off base the night of graduation. Hope this helps!!
Great video! Are you allowed to bring face creams / body lotions? What is the shower situation like at the base, do we get 5 mins to shower or 30 mins, what is it like?
Thank you for the great video! You mention that smoking/vaping is permitted. I’m wondering what the rules are around nicotine pouches like Zonnic or Zyn. Many ppl are now using those as smoking alternatives, as they get the nicotine without all the other harmful toxins from a cigarette. Thank you!
You could bring a laptop, but it would be kept in civilian lockup for the vast majority of the time. For us it was a large sea container where everyone had to put all items that were not in the kit list. You got access to it for very limited time. I would recommend against it, but technically you could.
This is great. I would add: some protective gloves if you, like me, are allergic to the CLP fluids that are used to clean the weapons. My hands were already too dry and swollen; then when they came in contact with the CLP, my fingers swelled up and were painful. I could not use my cell phone fingerprint ID for about a month afterwards, due to the swelling on my finger pads!
This is a good tip. Usually rubber gloves are included with cleaning kits. If not, you can request them. I was a BMQ instructor this summer and we always tried to fulfill reasonable requests, but I also acknowledge there were sometimes delays in providing necessary items.
Thanks for the video. Regarding hats... humble suggestion, both looks great, yet it would be nice if we imitate Americans and have a Navy Store with different types of merchandise. Canex is very limited regarding products of this nature.
I leave for basic very soon and i am wondering what are the rules on smoking cigarettes i have seen very different answers and am now stressed out about having to go in possibly cold turkey
There are designated smoking areas. You will have limited time to smoke, but it is allowed. It will be difficult to get to a store to buy more cigarettes so I would recommend bringing enough for the entire course. And maybe some to share, some people become temporary smokers in the field or don’t bring enough and can’t get to the store.
Hey man, I just got issued my kit and it is a lot of stuff and it’s just mis matched. Can you make a video for me and my friends on how to organize our kit what goes in what duffel bag and etc
@@MrKalabanga when you fly to basic training you will likely have a small amount of civilian stuff that you are not allowed to have on basic. Yes, you can still apply if you don't know how to swim. I recommend that you start practicing as there is a swim test during Basic Training. However you do not need to pass the test to graduate. If you are unsuccesful on the swim test you will be assigned remedial training to learn to swim.
Yes, everything shown is provided including t-shirts. When I joined you even got underwear but I'm not sure if they do that anymore. @@PrairieSailorthank you for making such informative videos. Are the bags issued during enrollment? or do we take our suitcases to bmq and get the bags later?
Inspections are admittedly easier on this course (compared to my experience in Borden 2005) with no hospital corners etc and less orders of dress to maintain (they don't have any boots to spit polish), but also presents different challenges because it's harder to keep clean. They are still formed up next to bunks for inspection of uniform, quarters, and weapons. Training for NCM BMQ mod 3 residential 3 week courses run all spring/summer from May - Aug each year.
Honestly it will vary depending on the staff. With the new dress regulations Oakleys should be allowed, but sometimes instructors are extra strict on BMQ. And an electric toothbrush shouldn’t be a problem, but I would bring a regular one as backup. Charging it could be a pain. Worst case scenario, anything you bring that is not allowed you can lock up in civilian lock up and have access to it on leave days, so I say go for it.
