If someone ever wants to get a sense of what depression feels like, I’d have them watch this video because of how similar your thoughts in quarantine came to be compared to mine in depression. Nothing matters, there’s no point to anything and you’re just wishing for a way out. This was crazy to watch and definitely made me feel less alone as I work on healing and hopefully getting better. It’s insane how sensitive we are to our environment! Such a great reminder to take care of ourselves💕💕
As a trans woman, it warms my heart to see you be so supportive of your sister that you would fly half-way around the world and endure 14 days of isolation, all for her sake. Thank you for being such a kind and caring person. We need more people like you in this world.
HOT FOOD HACK: save a container, boil water and put some in the container, set the container with cold food on top and let it sit for a bit! It won't cook anything from raw, but will warm up room temp foods that got cold before you could eat them :)

I'm in a bit of a depression slump today so perfect time for a long form Ellbat to pop into my recommendations. I'm a generally antisocial person but quarantine is something else. Knowing that you CAN'T go out or see someone else instead of choosing it is rough. Went through it recently with covid and really wish that there was someone delivering meals for me because I ended up eating so much crap and realised just how much I hate about my living space. Been working on fixing those things since I've been free again.
I found this so interesting to see what a government quarantine facility is like in a different country, you made it look okay and not so depressing as I thought it would be. I’m in Australia and been in lockdown since July 2021, I’m lucky I can still work mon-fri from home so that’s a bit of a routine still but I totally get the feeling of not being motivated to do anything and I’m also sooo tired all the time. I’m looking forward to seeing your sister’s journey :) x
A note for anyone else stuck in similar conditions, you can use the kettle to heat water and then mix it with cold water to a suitable temperature; use this as a warm/hot water bath to reheat (very slowly) food you have on hand 👍
The end is so heart warming! It makes us as your viewers feel like we are important to you. The poem you wrote "YOU" was the exact reason I wanted to follow you through this journey, and also the reason I wanted to purchase your book. I love knowing that we helped you through this and we all feel closer to you in a way. "My heart is grateful for you". Thank you Elena! 💖
i think that 'tar' on your ramyun is black bean paste for jjajangmyeon. you weren't supposed to drown it in boiling water like a traditional cup ramyun, but drain it and leave a little bit of water in it. same concept with indomie goreng if I'm not mistaken. 😆
yeah its 짜장면 yeah you drain a good portion of the water and then it should be a bit of a thick blackish sauce that coats the noodles. fun fact when koreans move house. The first night they are in the house they usuaully eat 짜장면 (black bean noodles) and 탕수육 (a type of like sweet and sour fried pork.
When I had to quarantine I was placed in a little 2 bedroom apartment. I think I would have gone crazy being alone in a room. I was in "my" apartment with other family members for a whole month. It didn't really feel like it was that bad honestly felt like a little vacation. We had meals delivered and cooked for ourselves. Plus we had the care team checking on us everyday. It was a nice being in quarantine, in my brain it wasn't quarantine it was a month long staycation
The stuff you said about how it felt really hit home, it was like getting most of my life described to me and smth i still struggle with. Things have gotten better and changed tho, but i feel no progress or like i'm getting anywhere, so mostly i do nothing. On a more positive note you seem like an amazing sibling, and i really hope everything went well for your sister and that she'll be happy
Honestly didn't think I would watch the whole thing without getting bored, but here we are. Nothing interesting even happend but somehow it was so entertaining that 50 min just passed. Well done!
I was hesitant about watching part II, just because how difficult the quarantine to start with took its toll on you in part I, but i'm glad i did. You handled it like a trooper and i'm sure everyone watching is proud of you, and your sister for getting through it. Pineapple on pizza is a no no though ;)
This seems like heaven, send me anywhere (with the exception of prison) and stick me in a room unbothered with 3 meals a day being delivered. The ⛈ is the cherry on top.
The New Zealand ones are amazing- they put you in 4/5 star hotels you can get Uber eats whenever, they take you for walks, you get pretty decent food and some places have outdoor space you can go to anytime day or night :) however if you’re only going for a holiday you have to pay to use them- they’re only free if moving back!
Not an ear doctor but my ears will crackle when there's fluid in them. Especially too after pressure changes such as an airplane cabin. Thanks for sharing your endeavors with us! So cool you could do that for you sis!
This is a microcosm of everything over the past year and a half... in one room, no exit. You've done amazingly and I am glad you made it through :) I am also very very excited for your upcoming videos and for our sister :) All our hugs and warm fuzzies.
I'm currently quarantined for having covid, at home & I'm jealous of your meals! LOL I've had Ramen but that's because my husband and my daughter also have covid too! So we've either had fast food delivery, Ramen or simple things like sandwich & cans of soup. That's when we've felt like eating though. The first week I dropped almost 10 pounds. It was needed but I'd rather not lose it that way lol. I can't wait to watch the videos on your sisters surgery transformation. ❤
I never had a nowork quarantine myself. I've always been working (restaurant) except when I got covid from family, and took a month to recover. Having 14 days to myself, not living with family, sounds great. I would be packing like all my art supplies and painting and drawing while listening to podcasts and watching movies and RUclips like nonstop. Definitely would have run out of snacks though. I'm also majorly an introvert. This video is basically what I'm like when I'm unemployed.
I love a comprehensive Ellbat video --- so sorry for the quarantine experience, but so admire the reason. You're a great sister and a good advocate. I don't understand why you didn't order some noise-canceling headphones .... the violin and the announcements would make me crazy. I also think I'd try to devise "cooking challenges" like making ramen and adding the eggs (and veg and/or meat)to the hot ramen and washing out a ramen pot with soap and water to use as a teacup (since they give you tea sachets and no cups).... especially since so much of the day revolves around food when you're quarantined.
Because I am truly stupid and thought that total isolation = silence. That was the case for my sister, but I got the one violin player in that facility lmao. Also, we didn’t know about the announcements ahead of time 😩 In terms of cooking, you can’t get access to eggs or veg or meat unless it came with a meal 😭 but the ramen as a tea cup is HUGE brain behaviour !!!! I should’ve thought of that!!! 💙
If you ever again only have a kettle to warm something up, and you have tupperwares like that you could make a big kettle of hot water and pour it in a sink to make some kind of double boiler to try and have a warm meal, the tupperwares should be heat-resistant enough for it to work :)
about the not letting yourself shower etc, i have this thing where i feel like i dont deserve to sleep with a blanket and/or pillow if ive been lazy all day
Hi! Just wanted to let you know that you werent put on this earth to only be productive! It's ok to have lazy days, that's part of being human. You deserve to be comfortable, simply because you made it through the day :)
I watch youtube videos since they are less of a commitment than watching a movie or a series. Sometimes the videos are longer than series episodes, yet here I am
Well done for getting through it. Being in lockdown (when the U.K. was) also affected my sleep and mood. But you do also notice the little joys that you were previously too busy to notice. I liked the cat eye mask look btw. 😘
From 39:30 onwards you're so chill and funny. Idk why I find it so funny, but you're so casual and cool. You sit there with ur adorable sleep mask (kudos to your mum!), sipping a juice box, and giving us wisdom like a life guru. Also, about the forgetting birthdays thing: I used to have the same problem😂 Now I just write all the birthdays on my phone calendar and make sure I get reminders. I still double check it on the day tho, cause ✨anxiety✨
The way that I have just gone on that exact rabbit whole of movie recap videos and had the exact same thought process as you 😄, I'm also stuck in a lockdown
I'm always surprised when people break down over lockdown, because I did mine in Korea back in February and I survived just fine. But I'm also really introverted and I usually stay home anyway 😂 I also did my quarantine at my apartment (because I came here as a teacher) but my school arranged for salads to be delivered to me everyday. Salads. For breakfast and lunch. I didn't get a dinner until day 10, and it was frozen salads. I lost so much weight over those two weeks.
Congratulations on making it through! I am an introverted person who loves that alone time, but I would probably go just as crazy, if not more so. I definitely couldn't be in such a tiny room with another person for that long either! I can't wait to see the next videos!
25:21 i started to notice that i also watch a youtube channel like that and its is just so calming to me because most of the time when i watch a movie i get bored half way through and then sometimes i just move weirdly bc i sit for a long time and it is just so well say then when i actually watch a movie
i did quarantine in south korea as well. its nice to see that other people have had similar mental experiences in quarantine. luckily i did it through my school so all my fellow college classmates were there as well and we had a chat group to talk to eachother and even did a group video call to practice speaking korean with eachother. downside we got less food and far worse food than you. probably only 900-1000 calories per day.
A couple of times I followed a recipe that had French toast with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce plus a mix of Italian spices. It was like a pizza and French toast combined.
Don't worry Elena, no matter what happens in the world, we'll always be here in spirit. I don't know about the rest of the community, but I'll always be sending good vibes, support, and a little bit of love.
@@Ellbat Elena, your channel has helped me through tough times, I can at least do the same for you. Whether it be waiting on stand by if you need some time to recharge from RUclips, or to tell us about how you've been feeling or any struggles you might have had. I watched the first part of this video and was worried about how you were doing. I'm glad you made it through it, and even got a book out of it!
I was actually getting a little worried about you but I'm glad you got out and well done for making it through. I am excited to see your sister's videos and hope all went well with her surgery.
Re: noise, I have ridiculously light sleep, so I alway carry earplugs with me when I travel. Also the thing about the violin notes being real gave me the best idea for a short story so thanks for that 😊
In case you're ever in a South Korean government quarantine facility again, you can use your kettle to reheat your meals by saving one of the tubs and filling it half with hot/boiling water, and stacking the other one in it with the lid on (wrap a towel around it to hold heat in and make it more efficient). It takes a bit, but with a few hot water changes and some stirring it'll be warm enough to not be horrible.

You guys down under must be on lockdown number 7 now.
@@taoist32 sure feels like it! We were going good for about a year and then Delta hit but it’s slowly getting better now
A note for anyone else stuck in similar conditions, you can use the kettle to heat water and then mix it with cold water to a suitable temperature; use this as a warm/hot water bath to reheat (very slowly) food you have on hand 👍
I should’ve read the instructions 😭 that’s why it didn’t taste right ahahahha
When I had to quarantine I was placed in a little 2 bedroom apartment. I think I would have gone crazy being alone in a room. I was in "my" apartment with other family members for a whole month. It didn't really feel like it was that bad honestly felt like a little vacation. We had meals delivered and cooked for ourselves. Plus we had the care team checking on us everyday. It was a nice being in quarantine, in my brain it wasn't quarantine it was a month long staycation
Your sister's curly red hair is so cute! 😄
Sending good vibes her way and your way!!
I love watching for houses too!
omg im so glad its not just me hahahaha
Me too
It reminded me I haven’t looked lately, I just did and now feel depressed. 😅
Currently quarantining in Japan and I just want you to know these vlogs are getting me through it! Haha
Honestly didn't think I would watch the whole thing without getting bored, but here we are. Nothing interesting even happend but somehow it was so entertaining that 50 min just passed. Well done!
Me, STRAINING to hear the violin this entire time: never heard it. Gurl, you fine. No worries about the violin being a horrible irritation.
I was hesitant about watching part II, just because how difficult the quarantine to start with took its toll on you in part I, but i'm glad i did. You handled it like a trooper and i'm sure everyone watching is proud of you, and your sister for getting through it. Pineapple on pizza is a no no though ;)
This is so sweet, thank u ❤️ (that’s fair and valid)
This seems like heaven, send me anywhere (with the exception of prison) and stick me in a room unbothered with 3 meals a day being delivered. The ⛈ is the cherry on top.
When the wait for this part was longer than the actual quarantine
😭😭😭
What an amazing opportunity for your sister!! You’re the best sister ever. Thanks so much for sharing this journey with us ♥️
What an interesting experience! Thanks for sharing :)
thank u so much for watching !!!!
How much did they charge for quarantine in NZ?
@@michaelkores6860 *_"ONE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS!!"_*
Also, we didn’t know about the announcements ahead of time 😩
In terms of cooking, you can’t get access to eggs or veg or meat unless it came with a meal 😭 but the ramen as a tea cup is HUGE brain behaviour !!!! I should’ve thought of that!!! 💙
If you can ask for a toothbrush can't you ask for a styrofoam cup?
You’re telling me you weren’t broken before? We all saw you go a month without washing your hair for a video. 😂
you know what, this is very fair
That ramen is black bean ramen called jjajjangmyeon its usually a thick black bean sauce that you kind of stir/whip into the noodles
_Mmmmmmm..._
Quarantine would be okay for those of us who enjoy reading. Could make a dent in your TBR List.
The excitement at the end for me was anticipated, I'm so happy you got through this experience with flying colours tbh.
I feel like I’m super weird cos I’m dying for a 14 day quarantine! Just to chill and eat and sleep. I need a break! 😂
I watch youtube videos since they are less of a commitment than watching a movie or a series. Sometimes the videos are longer than series episodes, yet here I am
Felt this so hard lol
i love you so much for how much youve helped your sister i wish i had that kind of support its beautiful
Well done for getting through it. Being in lockdown (when the U.K. was) also affected my sleep and mood. But you do also notice the little joys that you were previously too busy to notice. I liked the cat eye mask look btw. 😘
Oh for sure!! Aw thanks ❤️
50min video? Best thing ever.
Thanks for sharing all this with us!!
I am so happy to hear that you watch Mike’s Mic! He’s so entertaining that I’m glad to hear he’s being seen 🤗 You have great taste haha
The way your voice changed when you answered the phone was way too relatable 🤣
I’m very much enjoying the madness entering and leaving the video at times 😂😂😂❤️
The way that I have just gone on that exact rabbit whole of movie recap videos and had the exact same thought process as you 😄, I'm also stuck in a lockdown
I love how her voice tone softens up as soon as she starts talking in the phone
I'm always surprised when people break down over lockdown, because I did mine in Korea back in February and I survived just fine. But I'm also really introverted and I usually stay home anyway 😂
I also did my quarantine at my apartment (because I came here as a teacher) but my school arranged for salads to be delivered to me everyday.
Watching the end of this.. all I can think is the fact that those 2 lamps are not the same..
I've been waiting for this!
thank u for your patience
@@Ellbat I would have continued to wait, this is truly fascinating content!
"Imagine the violonist isn't real... hhh"
Okay that made me crack up and laugh cx
This was so Interesting to watch the initial positive then the spiral in to almost depression and then the coking back into light and positivity again
I've been waiting for this!! I can't wait for the videos coming out in October
Loved this video, basically the best part was you being you. Talking to the camera and vlogging is probably what helped keep you sane.☺️☺️😘😘
your "speaking on the phone voice" is SO CUTE omg
NOW IM SELF CONSCIOUS 😭
My patience has been rewarded!!
thank u for waiting so long !!!!!
@@Ellbat how could I not? I’ve been looking forward to it since part 1! :)
25:21 i started to notice that i also watch a youtube channel like that and its is just so calming to me because most of the time when i watch a movie i get bored half way through and then sometimes i just move weirdly bc i sit for a long time and it is just so well say then when i actually watch a movie
I felt genuine happiness when ellbat was finally out of that room 😬 glad u made it through
i did quarantine in south korea as well. its nice to see that other people have had similar mental experiences in quarantine. luckily i did it through my school so all my fellow college classmates were there as well and we had a chat group to talk to eachother and even did a group video call to practice speaking korean with eachother. downside we got less food and far worse food than you. probably only 900-1000 calories per day.
Oh jeez, I’m sorry to hear :( I’m so glad you had your classmates to get you through it !!!
A couple of times I followed a recipe that had French toast with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce plus a mix of Italian spices. It was like a pizza and French toast combined.
Why was it so satisfying to watch you open the meal bags
Don't worry Elena, no matter what happens in the world, we'll always be here in spirit. I don't know about the rest of the community, but I'll always be sending good vibes, support, and a little bit of love.
You’re an angel
@@Ellbat Elena, your channel has helped me through tough times, I can at least do the same for you. Whether it be waiting on stand by if you need some time to recharge from RUclips, or to tell us about how you've been feeling or any struggles you might have had. I watched the first part of this video and was worried about how you were doing. I'm glad you made it through it, and even got a book out of it!
I was actually getting a little worried about you but I'm glad you got out and well done for making it through. I am excited to see your sister's videos and hope all went well with her surgery.
This has been so entertaining and fun to watch! Thanks El x
No thank u for watching !!
So happy for your sister, and I'm sure she's grateful for you support!! Fills my heart 😊
Okay but SAME with the movie recaps, I’m obsessed
