He is best known as the lead singer and songwriter of Celtic punk band the Pogues However, Kirsty Anna MacColl was a British singer and songwriter, daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl.
Rest In Peace Shane MacGowan, this song was, and always will be a key part of my Christmas, I don’t care if people find it offensive or not, It truly is a treasure to the Holiday. ❤️🎄🎄🎄
RIP Shane. I dont normally make such comments but this is a very special song at any time of the year. Music as a whole not just Christmas music is richer for this song. In three and a bit minutes this group of musicians mange to capture happiness, sadness, comedy and tragedy and moments of pure musical brilliance. Who cares if its never made number one and probably wont this year. Everyone knows this is the best Christmas song every and wont be surpassed. I think we can safely say that
The next lines are my favorite. "You took my dreams from me when I first found you" "I kept them with me babe, put them with my own, cant make it out alone I BUILT MY DREAMS AROUND YOU"
A few years back, there was a neighbor who played this on his balcony (FL) at full blast. We sang along on our balcony & it was a small party the rest of the night. They moved & I miss their energy. (My husband & I are too introverted :( )
My best Christmas song of all time. The story the song tells is the reality for a lot of people. For some Christmas is peace, love, and light, and for others it is lonely, cold, and miserable due to relationship problems, homelessness, unfulfilled dreams, unrealised hopes and a lot more.
Couldnt agree more, my friend. This song has soo many meanings. What a journey too... You start off feeling down, placid and out. By the end, uplifted, happy and fulfilled. A masterpiece. RIP Kirsty We love you Shane! 🍀❤ Merry Christmas All 🙂🎄🌍
My favourite Christmas tune - memories of my kids being little and a simpler happier life - we never realised how lucky we were - and the bells rang out for Christmas time 🎄

They will live on with us everyday, and this song will outlast us all. I channel Shane through my songwriting and singing day in, day out, and always will. I adore this song, but claiming it’s better than the OG Christmas tunes like Hark the Harold angels sing, Joy to the world, First Noel, anything from Andrea Bocelli, … is just a bridge too far.
Never a truer word said my friend this is truly the greatest Christmas song of all time may the good ship McGowan sail forever more. Rip Shane and Kirsty and a merry Christmas to all😊

RIP Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl. We’ll make sure this Xmas Classic never dies 🕊️🎄
My favourite Christmas song. No forced jollity or piety - just good old Irish grumpiness.
Arnold o'hanlon once said irish music is mystery upon misery. (Sorry if i spelt his name wrong.)
it was written (and performed) by two English people lol
@@hellooohowareudoing SORRY to burst your bubble but nope! You are mistaken:
Shane Patrick Lysaght MacGowan is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known as the lead singer and songwriter of Celtic punk band the Pogues However, Kirsty Anna MacColl was a British singer and songwriter, daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl.
@@amandastakeonit7402 Shane was born in Kent, England. By my reckoning that makes him English. Sorry to burst your bubble 🙂
@@hellooohowareudoing you can be born somewhere and not be that specific nationality. Idiot.
Rest In Peace Shane MacGowan, this song was, and always will be a key part of my Christmas, I don’t care if people find it offensive or not, It truly is a treasure to the Holiday. ❤️🎄🎄🎄
The only Christmas song I never get fed up of hearing each year 🎅🥃
And Bad Santa is my favorite Xmas movie.
Amen
I'll be playing it on a loop
Same
Father Christmas - Kinks, Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home) - Darlene Love and Jesus Christ - Big Star are others that I don't tire of hearing.
The greatest Christmas song ever. Nothing even comes close.
I think we can safely say that
Lovely words, it is number one to us all
Agreed.
Everyone may recognize this song, even if they don't always know who performed it. A sad day.
Ich kann nicht alles kennen doch jetzt hat dieses Lied und diese Melodie mein Herz. und meine Seele gefunden, für immer
“I could have been someone.”
“Well so could anyone.”
I don’t know why, but that’s my favorite line
Me too, thats also my favourite line
That's because its true
The next lines are my favorite. "You took my dreams from me when I first found you"
"I kept them with me babe, put them with my own, cant make it out alone I BUILT MY DREAMS AROUND YOU"
@@your_belief_vs_everything My favourite line is also "I built my dreams around you".
Andi I find the confession of vulnerability in what could be a harsh world there touching, too.
Hands down the best Christmas song of all time.
🇮🇪Rest in Peace Shane, we’ll miss you forever. 🕊️
Love this song 💯
Totally agree
Could not agree more. Greatest song ever.
Blessed be during this holy time O lord Tachanka
A few years back, there was a neighbor who played this on his balcony (FL) at full blast. We sang along on our balcony & it was a small party the rest of the night. They moved & I miss their energy. (My husband & I are too introverted :( )
A masterpice . My favorite song of Christmas ....TIMELESS....
🍀❤ Merry Christmas All 🙂🎄🌍
Amen... Love and blessings to one and all. ❤🤗❤
Exactly why I love this song
Happy Christmas Snazzy that's the meaning of Christmas
Agreed wat a tune
In honour of Shane (and Kirsty for that matter) let's make this tune the Christmas No. 1 this year! Get streaming folks ❤
It's inevitable
Well there certainly is Zero Competition and that Ladboy is not bothering this Xmas...so yes ..get this song Played .
Rest in peace to them both. 🙏🏾 They will live far beyond any of us with this song that will be played for generations during Christmas.
Spot on x
I usually prefer more reverent Christmas songs, but there's something charming about this song that just feels right
This masterpiece has grown up with me. Thank you Shane and Kirsty for making my Christmas each year. May you both rest in peace xxx
My favourite Christmas tune - memories of my kids being little and a simpler happier life - we never realised how lucky we were - and the bells rang out for Christmas time 🎄
A musician who could connect to everyone through this masterpiece. You will be remembered!
RIP Shane MacGowan you and kirsty are singing with the angels in heaven now.
You haven’t lived until you’ve witnessed an entire Irish pub sing this song in unison, word for word, before closing time.
Does watching PS I LOVE YOU count? 🤣
This is now on my bucket list 👌

Simply put: the greatest Christmas song of all time.
Yeah, AND it's not ridiculously cheesy.

Absolutely. Nothing else even comes close.
RIP Shane and Kirsty. Thanks for the joy that you brought to so many people. Especially at Christmas!
Especially to lonely people at Christmas.
Currently 104 days until Christmas! Let the festivities begin! 😃
Usually a time of saving up after Samhain.
Swear to god
Now only 32 days to go!
Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl have left us, with this timeless classic to remind us of their unique voice and storytelling. Your legacy will live on through your music, continuing to inspire and move us. Rest easy. Your art will forever be a part of our Christmas memories and beyond. 🖤
And they both passed away at Christmastime. 😢
R.I.P.Shane and Kirsty. Both gone back home beyond the veil. The best and saddest song in the world. It has always moved me to tears. 💔😭💔😭
The greatest Christmas song of all time. One of the greatest and most beautiful things humanity has ever created. Shane and Kirsty, God bless your souls. They will live on with us everyday, and this song will outlast us all. I channel Shane through my songwriting and singing day in, day out, and always will. A literary hero, rest in peace you drunken genius. (I’m not crying, I swear)
Rip Shane and Kirsty and a merry Christmas to all😊
This song stinks
I am crying 😢
Let´s go for the 100 Million. For Kirsty and Shane
No Christmas song will ever be as great as this absolute masterpiece. Far the best Christmas song ever to exist.
R.I.P Shane MacGowan.
Just heard of it and love 💓 it
Better than Mariah Carrey that's for sure
This will forever be the best Christmas song!!
Siobhan Simpson What about carrot for a cock
Siobhan Simpson yes definitely it's my favourite Christmas song ever.
Siobhan Simpson YES
I agree. Always the first song I listen to on 1st Dec
well this isn't the best for me
This song is like fine wine, it gets better with age.
Too true. Endless depth
Hear hear
Judging by the snowflakes taking offence by a word in it nowadays, I disagree.
This is like fine age, it gets better with wine.
Lol. Best listened to when tipsy too!
This song has everything. A lovely and sad yet profoundly joyful masterpiece.
Beautiful Christmas song. 🎄 RIP Shane and Kirsty
When Kirsty sings the line, "Well, so could anyone!" tears ALWAYS start to my eyes - for her, for every wasted life, for me and you too. Merry Christmas everybody!
Her life was not wasted, she saved her son’s life. Her life definitely had purpose.
@@amyishere67 very true! I was thinking more of the content of this song. “I could have been someone”.

Like George and Aretha also they all done Xmas Songs aswell. Was that Matt Dillon at the start of the Video looks like him dressed as a Cop
The season begins once again. this song will forever be a masterpiece.
THE Christmas song IMO. It has everything. Passion. Despair. Love. Addiction. Hope. Dreams of a future which will never be attained. And both of those voices and the Irish spirit that unites them. This year or any year. I love it.
This song never fails to bring tears to my eyes. May you and Kirsti be singing tonight in heaven.
Rest in peace, 😘 Shane and Kirsty! Never have I ever sang a Christmas song with a bigger smile on my face than your masterpiece!
Who else is here for Christmas 2023? Paying respects for many happy years with this icon. God bless you both Shane and Kirsty. Merry Christmas to you both up above..
This song is not just for Christmas time. It's for any day of the year really. I will never not cry when I hear this song especially when I hear the line "I've got a feeling this years for me and you" because I've mentally struggled for years and whenever I heard that line it warms my body up and a part of my brain thinks they're right this years going to be special and kind to me, in a world that can truly be daunting and anxiety ridden to think about at times.
