My life during that beautiful decade is what crafted me to the person I am. I wouldn’t change anything. I miss that decade with all my heart and soul. So many places paved over or torn down, parents passed, friends no longer here. But your comments let me know I am not the only person who was there and loved what we had. I truly feel your comment. I was 16 Christmas 1984. When I hit 50 I finally understood, that "home" is always a very specific moment in time. I can hardly watch those old videos without feeling a strong feeling of loss. They remind me of a wholesome feeling that got lost along the way and a home that hasn't been since then.

@@Chatstories_6 It has many meanings. It means that sometimes the hurt that comes from seeing someone in need is so deep that you feel helpless trying to help them. You compare their state of living to your own and it makes you sad beyond words. It leaves you realizing that if it were you, you wouldn't have survived. It also is calling out many of the people who brush aside the fact that others are in pain. It calls them out on the privilege that many people have of not knowing what it is like to suffer in that way. Most of all, it reminds us all of how gifted we are and what truly matters in life. It reminds us to care for each other and give back our gifts in life to those that don't have it as good as we do. This phrase is very deep for those who read into it deeply. However, just like most good things in life, I can also understand how at first glance this phrase may appear intimidating and can be easily misunderstood. The complexity of this turn of phrase is exactly why it is so emotionally powerful.
I understand the spirit of what they meant, and they probably had to make it rhyme, but for some reason that line never set well with me. In other words, the imperfections of this line are exactly what made the whole song relatable for so many people. Sure, the phrasing is a bit rough, but that's the appeal. This line isn't supposed to feel good, it is supposed to hurt. It is supposed to take a sweet song and by itself turn the whole thing bittersweet. One line that changed the whole song and took it from idealistic and unattainable to painful and relatable. It isn't saying well, someone has to be miserable because we all know that while misery is a reality of life, we don't want anyone to be miserable. That is already a given that is understood by everyone. It is about being grateful and looking up, not about throwing someone down into a pit. This line guides the listener into the correct perspective of how to interpret the song because if you have the incorrect perspective it doesn't sound right, but if you listen from the head space of the writer, it is beautiful and life changing. A prime example of why the 80's was on another level!! Music movies TV!! We've never had Music like this since!! Music was so big they had a channel and sadly that channel has died 💔 🙏 🪦 The 80's was something truly special.
@FrenchFriesrGood MTV stood for Music TV and just because it's still around doesn't mean anything and I stand correct the current MTV channel isn't Music TV and that channel died in the early 00s. 🤘🏻
Doesn't it just. In 1984, we couldn't even imagine "40 years ago" - now we do. And the older we get, the quicker time goes by. How many of us aged 54 will even be here in 40 years from now?
I was 24, pregnant with my second daughter and sadly nothing has changed. The Rich become richer and the poor become poorer, the same like 40 years ago 😢 Greetings from Germany
I was a sophomore in high school when this song came out..remember watching it on MTV it was so awesome to see all these super star musicians singing together. What a great time it was to be alive.
This song was one of the greatest ever recorded. it brought together the best of the British Invasion of the 80's. God Bless them all who participated. Who would of thought that 40 years ago any of these artists would have ever thought this song would still be as popular in 2024 as it did in December 1984. ! It will live forever !
I graduated in '84. There's nothing wrong with the lyrics. It's meant to let people realize they SHOULD be thankful for their lives especially when they have it better than so many others. Just be thankful. That's what I took from the song. There's 1 line of lyric that wasn't well expressed but don't take it upon yourself to cancel something someone else receives different from yourself.
"But for the grace of God go I?" I think the message may be?? What does it mean but for the grace of God go I? If you are talking about someone who is in a bad situation and you say 'There but for the grace of God go I', you mean that you are lucky not to be in the same situation as them and you feel sympathy for them.
@@lucacomba6776 Ohh you little spoil sport....think about what you just said. A good chunk of humanity will probably always suffer from something because of the world we live in now....at least that record helped to change just a bit of that and made a difference which it did. The song/melody was genius from Midge and Bob and they only had 48 hours to record it and get it out to the record companies and they did it with all the help of the egos of the pop stars coming together who, apparently never fell out and just got on with it given the immense pressure at the time. 🤣 it was bloody brilliant. xxx
The sad thing is there's enough food for everyone around the world there hiding it because people are so so selfish now they'll pay for it in hell that's the problem with everything people are following the devil and don't know it

I was 16 years old when this song came out. 40 years ago this week. The 80's were an amazing time. This song stands the test of time. Forever and ever. The 80's were the best time to be alive. And this song is living proof.
this goes to show you how bad the music sucks today god i was blessed to be a teen in the 80s... 80s can never be replicated it can only be remembered i cry daily wishing that time could come back the smell in the air the style the people how we communicated with one another i hope when i go to heaven its 1980s up there. if it is i will have wished i was there sooner... RIP 1980S WE LOVE YOU
I feel so proud to have been part of the 80's and to witness all the amazing chart music. We really enjoyed going out to gigs all over London. Times were really exciting and fun. People cared more about each other and communities were strong. Children and teenagers had so much freedom. I really appreciate all the great times we had.
It's doesn't get any better when conveying the Christmas spirit of giving than "Feed the World". I was young when this came out, like most of the people who posted here, and I LOVED this song! I listen every year and think how great it was of Geldof to put the whole thing together. I remember a couple of months later when the U.S recorded "We Are the World" and later the Live AID concerts. This was good stuff -- the idea of bringing people together to help others across the world who needed it. Anyone who wants to go revisionist and criticize the efforts of the past misses the point of giving when you hear about someone in need. Love you all for loving this song! Cheers!
I remember this so vividly - pop royalty giving back to the world. I was in Germany at the time, very young, went out and bought the single. Always listened to it at Christmas. God bless all.
Yes Midge has never received proper recognition for this gem. I remember him saying at one of his concerts that he felt aggrieved for the lack of recognition and I agree with him. Very underated, in fact my daughter who is a fan is at one of his concerts tonight
As year by year goes, this track will always remain as one of the most legendary Christmas tracks ever created, and what a legacy it has! Happy it finally has an official video on RUclips at last. As literally there's as couple weeks left till Christmas, no better time to play it than now, one of the very few tracks that'll never get old, no matter how many times you play it, and still hits the heart. Amazing how many iconic legends we have collaborating for this iconic hit. Phil Collins with his legendary passionate drumming skills, George Micheal, Bono, Sting, Boy George, Bob Geldolf, and many more from the original, but for the Live Aid Concert, with David Bowie, and Freddie they should have been apart of it since the start, sad to see that we're slowly losing them one by one, but lets all be grateful. 40 years now, time flies. All the best, hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, Feliz Natal, and Happy Holidays! 🎄☃🎁👋
We’ll just have to see who showed up for Band Aid 40 this year. Considering they got Britain’s best for the 20 and 30 year anniversaries, there could be a good showing.
Omg in 1984 when this was made I was 12yrs, I'm now 52yrs 😮..all the legendary artists together, some greats sadly gone...this is without a doubt the best version, and the song means so much every xmas 🎄 🙏 ❤
Band Aid, Live Aid, USA for Africa.. it was all about appreciating how fortunate we were and helping those who were not. We were not self centered or coddled. But we had great music and decent people to look up to. I was 17 and loved MTV.
Just done a quick Google, only George, Rick and Chris from Ultravox are no longer with us. Most of them are in their 60's now with a few in their 70's.

@@susanb2015never to late Susan. You woke up today so your creator isn’t done with you yet. Many people become very successful at an older age. You sound like you have lived a hard life with plenty of experiences. Try and find a way to turn those traumatic experiences into art. Write a book, write a film based on your experiences in life and you’ll be surprised on what you can do. Or you can give up and let death come around. I like the first option ❤

This is my favorite Christmas song ever.
That bass at the beginning & Paul Young's vocal followed by Boy George & George Michael. Absolutely epic!! 🎄
Boy George and Bono knock it out of the park.
So proud …brought tears seeing this again ..what wonderful people …🇬🇧

A prime example of why the 80's was on another level!! Music movies TV!! We've never had Music like this since!! Music was so big they had a channel and sadly that channel has died 💔 🙏 🪦 The 80's was something truly special.
A period where things were simple not perfect but simple people were fun joyfull
That channel being MTV and no MTV is not dead they are still on the air but they just play boring reality shows
@FrenchFriesrGood MTV stood for Music TV and just because it's still around doesn't mean anything and I stand correct the current MTV channel isn't Music TV and that channel died in the early 00s. 🤘🏻

Me too. Where have all the years gone?
Doesn't it just. In 1984, we couldn't even imagine "40 years ago" - now we do. And the older we get, the quicker time goes by.
How many of us aged 54 will even be here in 40 years from now?
I was 12 back then god I miss the 80´s

This song was one of the greatest ever recorded. it brought together the best of the British Invasion of the 80's. God Bless them all who participated. Who would of thought that 40 years ago any of these artists would have ever thought this song would still be as popular in 2024 as it did in December 1984. ! It will live forever !
So very true. Many of the records from the late 60s through the 70s Nd early 80s will live on forever. This is still the fastest selling single ever.
So true😊
Yes the 80s Brit invasion. That's why Jody Watley and Kool N The Gang always threw me. Lol
80s passed in a blink of an eye .. thankful for these videos 📸 ...
Paul Young really sets the tone for this song leading things off. No one credits him enough for that.
I heard Geldof say he intended Bowie to sing that part but he was not available. Bowie did sing them during Live Aid

fairytale takes top spot for me but this is still really good
Sting singing 'The bitter STING of tears' never fails to make me smile.
I wonder if it was deliberate to get him to sing that bit.
@Andy_JS2 I've often thought that too!
It was Bono that did that bit along side Sting in harmony
@@Astor-w3l That's incorrect.
@theumbrellacockatoo All the times I’ve listened to it and watched the video and never noticed that before!! 🤷♀️🤦🏻♀️😂
Thank you! I grew up on this song❤
"But for the grace of God go I?"
I think the message may be??
What does it mean but for the grace of God go I?
If you are talking about someone who is in a bad situation and you say 'There but for the grace of God go I', you mean that you are lucky not to be in the same situation as them and you feel sympathy for them.
It’s 40 years today since this fantastic Christmas song released!☮️♥️
Can't believe I was 10 that time. I am weeping like a child at the nostalgia. Such a great time to be alive in the 1980s!

...and forty years later...still a good chunk of humanity is dying of hunger!
🤣 it was bloody brilliant. xxx
The sad thing is there's enough food for everyone around the world there hiding it because people are so so selfish now they'll pay for it in hell that's the problem with everything people are following the devil and don't know it
The quality of the british musicians is undeniable. This song is just a few of all of them.
why is it you brits make music better than us dumbass americans? you gave us my favorite singer in david bowie. you created the best album ever in the stone roses debut. my all-time favorite song is by joy division in "love will tears us apart". NIN (though they're really american but atticus ross is british and alessandro cortini is italian) is my favorite band influenced by british music. why did we have to break away from you during the american revolution and be in the mess that we're in?
Back then Britain was respected for the calibre of its homegrown talent not its missiles
Many of "British" pop singers were the children of Irish immigrants to the UK.
Band aid is not all british there is many nationalities in there.....
Few Irish too
It was a group of people who used their fame for good the sentiment was truly honourable. I was a child of the 80’s and it’s woven into every Christmas memory I have thank you all

this goes to show you how bad the music sucks today god i was blessed to be a teen in the 80s...
This song was released when I was High School, what a good time and great cause.
Respect to Midge Ure for creating this too. He’s always forgotten.
If I remember rightly this made it to If I Was: The Very Best of Midge Ure and Ultravox
He literally wrote the whole song.
Geldof was basically the mouthpiece.
Not in my book!
Midge Ure is a f...... genius💪🔥❤️
This song gives me chills every time I hear it, Bono and George Michael’s voices are pretty amazing!!!
i was the kid that watched this during its first showing in the 80s. It had me then, and is still my all time favorite!
All legends in their own right. You’ll never see stars like this all coming together to sing a song let alone a massive concert like Live Aid
Agree, today's music business wouldn't have been willing or able to handle it (these people were signed to a lot of different labels)
I was 15 and saw Band Aid live in Philly. Such a blessing. Once in a lifetime moment. Then, and now, one of my favorite songs.
I was same age 12yrs and totally agree some of the greats gone..play it every xmas ❤
Band Aid, Live Aid, USA for Africa.. it was all about appreciating how fortunate we were and helping those who were not. We were not self centered or coddled. But we had great music and decent people to look up to. I was 17 and loved MTV.
