Great band. I heard of them as a folk-inspired melodic death metal band. Nowadays, in my opinion, it is difficult to classify bands precisely because there are so many influences on the music. Ensiferum is also assigned to viking metal and this song, you're right, refers to Greek mythology. Andromeda was supposed to be chained to a rock and sacrificed to a sea monster. She was rescued and married by Perseus.

Ensiferum is a fun band. I'd say folky melodic death metal maybe? Their older stuff had a more distinct folk sound, but I must admit I haven't heard much of the newer music they've put out. Fun fact, Jari from Wintersun used to be their singer, then they replaced him with this current harsh vocalist, Petri Lindroos. He still sounds great. The reason I know this is, I used to be obsessed with his old band Norther, you might like them - "Mirror of Madness" or "Frozen Angel", for example.

I have great memory about seeing them first time live: I was listening the music and enjoying the performance with my wife. Suddenly I noticed odd movement around us, and realized that we are in the middle of just forming mosh pit. It was just like when you take plug out of the sink. Water starts to quiver randomly until Earth's spinning causes vortex to spin in certain direction. I guess the audience was in such a good mood, that we were no way in danger. Nevertheless, I took my wife by hand and we moved a side pretty quickly. 😅

I would say it's melodic death metal. The folk proportion is too limited that I would call it folk metal.
A very good song, but I have one little complaint: the clear voice is so good, but it's too rare in that song. For my opinion the balance of harsh vocals and clean voice is not optimal. Maybe in other songs of them. I will definitely check it out. 😉

It’s epic folk metal according to Encyklopedi Metallum.
Go see them live if you have the chance, they are great live. Went to a consert about two years ago where they where co-headlining with Dark Tranqulity, almost felt a bit bad for them because it was really obvious that almost everybody was there primarily for Dark Tranqulity (I saw more people wearing Halo Effect t-shirts than Ensiferum t-shirts).
I would love to see them live. If they come to my area I will definitely check them out. From your show I situation, I am not gonna lie I would probably be wearing a Halo effect shirt. Now that I think about it, I need a Halo effect shirt : ). In fairness I would get shirts for all three bands.

I think that melodeath vibe comes maybe because Petri was earlier in Norther.
And as someone wrote earlier, fun fact is that Jari Mäenpää was in Ensiferum before Petri.
Petri is nowadays singer in Warmen too. Warmen started as Children of Bodom`s keyboard player`s side project.
