- Here's a quick demo of some classic Frank Zappa riffs through an Electro-Harmonix Tube Zipper. This dual pedal featuring an envelope filter and a distortion, nails the mid 70s guitar tones. This is by far my favorite envelope filter pedal - it sounds great clean, but I'll save that for another day. Like alot of the classic EHZ pedals, it is massive. This is the setting I call Zappa Mode. The pedal is discontinued, but there's always a few on Reverb if you're interested.
In their words, the Tube Zipper is two effects in one, a warm sounding Tube Envelope Follower and a rich tube Distortion unit. When these two effects are combined into the same circuit the outcome are entirely unique new wild effects. The Tube Zipper uses two premium 12AX7EH vacuum tubes.
This demo was made with a 1997 Fender Voodoo Strat loaded with Seymour Duncan Texas Hot Antiquities, 9-46 Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's plugged into Marshall DSL15C. Nothing special mic wise, just an iPhone 12 Pro on a tripod.

Can't get enough Zappa. Your demo convinced me to grab a Tube Zipper, and I’m so glad I did. Just posted a video of an improvised jam with it, using a Behringer Edge synth and a Dynacord tape delay. The envelope filter is crazy fun to experiment with! Still getting familiar with it, but I'm excited to dive deeper with guitar and keys

On mine the tubes don’t not light up anymore, even thou still got the effects. Is that a problem? Maybe the tubes are burnt? Congrats for the video!!
Thanks! That's shouldn't be related to the tubes or a problem. Electro Harmonix used to do repairs for a really low price. Might be worth reaching out. But, if it sounds good to you, I'd leave it as is!
The tubes have a little led light underneath them to make them look cooler, if it still sounds fine then likely the little led is just bust
hey man thats a great sounding piece of kit. Love the florentine pogen riff too. Can you use this thing only as an overdrive pedal such as the Butlers Tube Driver if you turn the filter knobs all the way down? if so does it sound any good that way. Thanks!
I'll have to see if I can bypass the filter but if memory serves, you can use either side (Envelop or Overdrive) independently. When I get it out next I'll respond.
