They stated that you´ll be able to buy heroes from previous battle passes for coins in the shop but I would like to know if this also works for other cosmetics as well especially if you don´t buy the premium battle pass.
@@crymater The issue is that Kiriko is half way through the battlepass for free players and is probably a completely wasted tier for paid players
I have a question. So the vault is open now for past event skins. They want me to use my overwatch coins to unlock the skins. However if I don't unlock all of them that I want to (like a Christmas skin) will it be available to unlock in OW2? They haven't been clear about this and I'm confused. @@phantommonkey26 In the newest update regarding the OW2 ingame shop they mention something about rotating bundles where for example you can get old skins from the original OW. Maybe in these bundles you´ll be able to get Winterwonderland skins.
Remember when one of the core principals for Overwatch was that every hero was available to everyone to allow fair team compositions?
Pretty sure you won't be able to queue a role in Competitive if you don't own all the heroes.

I hope you can earn enough coins in the battlepass to buy the next seasons battlepass like you can in some games. It’s nice when your able to spend money once and as long as your actively playing you can earn enough to get the next seasons
I don't which post said it, but there was information that you will be able to get one premium battle pass every two seasons. Also there are no OW coins in the Battlepass meaning buying it doesn't really make a difference in that regard. (Take this with a grain of salt because I don't know if it's true)
If not, it's only $10 every 9 weeks. Not bad honestly.

the idea of having to unlock hero’s completely annoys me as the whole idea of Overwatch 1 was having the ability to change at any time to anyone. Another thing is the fact that this encourages not having breaks from the game cause then you’ll b e out at a disadvantage as you lack hero’s

I can understand the criticism. I think it's solvable by preventing a person from queueing competitive f they don't own all the heroes in that specific role.
Kiriko is the first supp, maybe next hero is a DPS. That means in the following few seasons, someone queueing tank only is fine jumping into comp even if they don't own kiriko and the new DPS hero.

Yep that absolutely kills the balance of teams if you have for example a hero not available to your team because both support players don't have battle pass!

@@KB-rmn It's not a "grind" and this is very much what is expected to happen when a series goes Free to play with character releases. The new character is not locked to the Premium deal. It's just you guys massively over blowing your own misinterpretation when nothing is even out yet.

The heroes are still locked, this shit will lead to you sometimes maybe not even having a good counter to a hero because the other guy bought the whole battle pass on day one

Yea and you can’t earn coins anymore, you have to but them. This game is really selling out and it’s pretty sad to see, huge step down imo.
So play the game for fun. You're getting the game for free, and probably spent like $50 or more on OW1. Them switching to an "infinite" season-bp model allows new content to get added a lot more regularly. Imo that model maximizes the benefit to the company and the player. If you don't get to the target tiers you want to get to, you can always follow up with challenges to unlock other heroes. Some games would lock heroes behind a paid tier, so I'm just thankful they didn't do that.
Unlike so many people, I actually don't mind this model. I'll be playing, hopefully hitting level 55 to get that hero, and I'll be enjoying myself. If you're ever hitting a point where you hate the grind and it makes you hate actually playing the game, maybe the game isn't for you, and I highly doubt that whatever hero you're pushing for will change that.

My problem is that I maybe put 4/6 hours a week in. Right now I'm going to be penalised in playing because I won't unlock these heroes. And when they come back around for challenges, who knows if I'll have time to here.
I have a life outside OW, I play for fun, it doesn't dictate my life. I don't hate playing the game, I LIKE playing OW, I just have a problem with the hero unlocking
@@CUBKITS Overwatch was never about grinding forever, it was for fun. And in ow1 you can earn coins for skins without having to pay anything, just playing the game. This new game is taking their thing that made it special ( always being fair between every player ) and now they locked heroes behind ranks. Truly its less for fun and is going to die on a similar manner of Fortnite
@@richardpage2082 I mean, the hero unlocking is the weakest part of the BP, definitely, I think they could have done that better for sure. That being said, depending on the difficulty of the unlock challenges, I think that's much less stressful than "I need to get these heroes unlocked or else they're gone forever," and so playing for a few hours every week should be able to net you those. Also, if you're playing 4-6 hours every week, and there are 9 weeks, you should technically be able to hit level 55.
I also have a life outside of OW. That's why this doesn't really bother me that much.
4:03 I'm making some assumptions on how weekly challenges work here, but going off of this graphic, you can earn up to 60 OW coins completing weekly challenges. New content drops every 9 weeks, but it alternates between map and hero, so there's 18 weeks between hero releases. If you can earn 60 OW coins each week, then in 18 weeks you can have 1,080 OW coins, and premium Battle Pass is 1,000 OW coins. So in the 18 weeks between hero releases, you can grind weeklies to earn enough OW coins and be ready to unlock premium BP and next hero right as they release without having to pay real money. However, this wouldn't work for the first new hero after Kiriko since you only have 9 weeks between OW2 initial launch and the Season 2 hero launch. It would theoretically work for every new hero after that. It also remains to be seen how long getting to tier 55 in the BP actually takes so that still might end up being the less time consuming route to unlock new heroes without paying real money.
Yes this math is correct.
540 coins per season. Earning over 1000 coins every 4 months which is on tempo for new hero releases. This is okay for people playing on Day 1 but players entering the game in 2023, 2024 will need to catch up and we have yet to see what the special challenge to allow them to get previous season heroes are.
I hope they atleast make daily challenges to get 500 coins, so each season you could get the premium one without paying
A new hero every four months is insane progression and commitment.
As excited as I was to see all this, I suddenly felt kind of bummed again about pve getting delayed. Can you imagine how big it would have been if they actually dropped this all together?

Delay is good delay means more work = better gameplay and hopefully less bug with more enjoyable co-op mode
I mostly agree although there's a chance it could be better for the game that the PvE is delayed. Since there has been a lot of negativity around some of the changes, I could see a world where waiting for people to adjust before adding a massive infusion of new content could ultimately be more beneficial to the success of the game.
Level 55 just to unlock a character is ridiculous, atleast for a game like OW where swapping is one of the most important aspects of the game
Edit: I know we don't have info on how long it takes to level up and perhaps leveling up through PVE is faster/differnt. But I still think of lvl 55 out of 80 to be high and a bad sign overall. Some people argued that this is to prevent people who don't play a lot from joining comp, but then this system wouldn't make any sense because you could just spend money to unlock characters and hop into comp
We don't know how much XP it will take to hit tier 55 in the BP yet.

The thing is, this is most likely not gonna be the last time they do this, they are most likely doing it so people spend more time on there game and grind for the character, rather then just play a couple games of the new character and hop off

@@MNiTFTW maybe that's a good thing? maybe players who want to play a new hero COMPETITIVELY will actually have to be active in playing the game more than the average casual. In the FAQ it states that new heroes will automatically be available from the day they release in the training range, arcade (deathmatch, no limits, mystery heroes), casual modes, custom game modes, for ALL PLAYERS. Just not competitive mode.
I absolutely hate the battlepass and weekly challenges and irl currency thingy. If the battlepass was cosmetic things only, maybe. But locking heroes behind battlepass is such a bad idea in a counterpick game like Overwatch.

@@flysoup3607 except valorant agents aren't even on a battle pass. theyre on a contract that you can unlock at any time for free. if they put all these new heroes on a limited time banner, without giving everyone the chance to have all the heroes down the line. that will fuck up the game beyond repair
@@KiIIerBean you will have the chance to unlock them any time by completing quest if you missed the bp, and the new heroes will not be playable for 23 days in competitive mode after their release, so even if you buy you won't play them in competitive mode.

Karq, is there any chance of a 1 tip with each hero series featuring teammates? Ex, Dva. Zarya+bomb, Cass, ult and matrix him, zen matrix him if he gets dived a lot.

I understand that Free to Play models need some sort of monetization. But I think that they way overshot the mark. I want to compare the monetization model to Valorant's, because it is similar...its just priced way higher. Also you can earn heroes in Valorant at any time. When the BP is over, if you didn't get to 55 you have to buy the character at that point. A BP with only cosmetics is more than fine, but tying the heroes to it I think is a horrible idea. make them forever earnable/purchasable like in valorant. make the BP for cosmetics only. lower the BP price.
did you even pay attention? It's mentioned multiple times that if you miss out on a battlepass containing a hero there is a specific challenge you can complete to unlock them after the season has ended. If you've ever played MW2019 the exact same system existed. For instance to unlock a new LMG, that you missed out on getting through the battle pass, you had to get a certain number ofkills with a specific LMG, attachment, etc. I don't mean to sound rude but this bandwagon of shitting on OW2 because of COSMETIC MICROTRANSACTIONS is one of the stupidest new trends of all time. Valorant has almost identical monetization models (I would argue way more egregious though) and no one bats an eye. The characters will be FREE, you might not have instant access, but if you're just playing the game you will get them (same as Valorant again, which no one seems to complain about).

@@brooklyngray1527 you're right, I can't argue with that. But tying character unlocks to a set time or purchase vs f2p earn anytime or purchase, I'd choose f2p earn anytime, everytime. On top of that cheaper BP for those that want that.
Comparing Valorant unlocks is kind of ridiculous. Unlocking Agents already is a long grind for just one, having to reach Tier 5 in their own respective set of tiers. Unless you play a lot, it takes what feels like almost a week to unlock one.

I miss the days of paying a flat fee for a game and 100% of its contents, especially one like OW1 where in game purchases are purely cosmetic.
While the BP isn’t exactly expensive, it’s still the cost of a triple A game over the course of a year, plus now you get the added “bonus” of having to actually grind for all contents. Money, I can pay. Time, not as much.

Online services that get updated need money to be maintained. The problem here is the locking heroes behind a pay wall. That is why I'm not playing
there are still many games that release a full game, yea some are shit and release half baked but this has always been a problem in the industry. Live service games cant survive without stuff like this, its not enough to just have skins. People really dont give a shit about skins that much.
It’s gotten ridiculously more difficult and expensive to make content, develop skins, make balance changes, and upkeep a live service game. This is the unfortunate side effect of games becoming more complicated and efficient.
Are you forgetting that 99% of games you bought for a flat fee either literally didn't update ever or had paid DLC maps and characters that cost more than a $10 battle pass to this day?

Hoping that ow 2 will have these features:
1. Access/Way to unlock OW 1 skins + emotes + sprays + etc....
2. Coins on Bp for lowspenders so they can buy next battle pass (Like in apex)
3. Non-expiry battle pass(Like in Halo)
4. Skin Crafting/Crafting Shards (Like in League)
5. Commissions/Quest to get OW coins for strict f2p(Daily Comms like in genshin)
1. Pretty sure thats why we can keep our coins from OW1
2. You get them from weekly challenges but one battlepass of weekly challenges only gives you 540 coins so if you never want to pay it will take you two seasons to get 1080 which is enough for s bp.
3. I highly doubt it, they wouldnt say that heroes require special challenges after the season if you could buy the season later or it doesnt expire.

I think the battlepass might kill OW2, not because of the existence of it but how it is. Many people ( like me) cycle through games to avoid burnout, introducing a battlepass that requires you to grind in order to unlock once in a lifetime items will kill any enjoyment you could derive from the game. This is the same reason I quit fortnite, I just didn't have fun in it after playing it for 7 weeks straight.

Well if your team desperately needed a character to completely change a loss into a win then its not solely that person faulte for that happening and most likely everyone is contributing to that fault.

Like an Ana to counter their Reaper or a Soldier to contest their Pharah.
Not being able to pick certain heroes will leave one team in a big disadvantage.
Especially once there are multiple unlock able heroes and multiple team mates have not unlocked all of them your strategies are severely limited!
It's hardly any competitive if one team has more to use as the other team!

Like do you see how massive are the implications? lol. You literally lose ENTIRE comps by missing certain Heroes. Now imagine the enemy DID have Ana, and Nano-Genji was the meta, you'd be at a MASSIVE disadvantage.

If the battle pass is monetized like Fortnite, then great. But I have a feeling it will be more aggressive.. especially since they are putting characters (main new content) behind a soft paywall
And yes I know they are free if you play enough. But they used to be free on release for everyone, and we waited years for new content... Now we will continue to wait or need pay for it every two months (in 4 months, that cost will exceed the cost of a full game, OW1)

The problem of the new BP is how much, investment needs, personally is one of the most stupid ideas to lock the central point of your game inside a lot of grinding, i don't have time to be grinding away just to try out a new hero i have a job and chores to do that take away my time, and setting up to play it's a chore on itself, and If i don't have time i have even less money, i can only put aside some hours of my month usually to play for a bit, especially since overwatch is not a pick up and put down kind of game, sometimes I just want to play the newer things or events even try to get some cosmetics but that's it, and it's a shame because I love the new character and even when I'm going to be able to play it since I have OW 1, then what next? I'm going to be locked out of the new content just because I can't pay a monthly subscription to a game a play every now and then? Is the game not letting me play because I can't put hours on it? im also a player but now since I don't have time nor money then Im lesser than other players? I really hope they reconsider this whole thing because it alienates people like me

It's literally 10 dollars, and it would be every several months. You're getting this game for free. If this wasn't a free to play game, you would shell out like 60 dollars. That's worth 6 battle passes. I understand where you're coming from, but remember this game is free and the company needs to make a profit. If they dont' make a profit, there is no game to play.

I'm genuinely excited!! I know including new heroes in the battle pass is a sore point, and personally I agree it's not ideal for optics when Blizzard is under such intense scrutiny atm particularly in regards to monetization after Diablo Immortal. But, that said, if that's the biggest thing we have to complain about regarding monetization once the game is in our hands, I'll be very happy. This game is free, no existing content was monetized, and a new hero is $10 if you want them ASAP (and that's not to mention the cosmetic value you also get for that $10).
My only concern is if tier 55 takes unreasonably long to reach , as we've seen in other games cases where paid content you can "get for free" is behind an incredibly rough grind.
Look, I'm almost never willing to give corporations benefit of the doubt. They ought to be scrutinized at all angles. Blizzard specifically has given us many reasons lately to not trust them. And the last thing I want to convey is that we shouldn't be sceptical. I'm still worried that there are nasty surprises waiting for us like in Diablo Immortal, or many other AAA games. But, if this turns out to be exactly what they are communicating and with fairly standard grind for the battlepass, then I'm actually pretty happy.
The battlepass formula lets OW2 bring in consistent profits, which is an incentive for Blizz to actually support the live service game with regular new content and updates. We need this, and I should think we'd want this after the severe drought we experienced in OW1
Yea this is so true, and well i have seen so many people comply over ow being a free game with a seson pass, well thos player can go a cry in a corener becus ow is dead becus Blizzard didt change the game, and this is somewhat a new breaht of air and well like you say the grind to 55 to a new hero is painful but we don't know if this can change over the moths or years, becus we haft to think this is somewhat Blizzard first free to play game with a seson pass and yea is a rocky road att the start like always whit games. I agree that Blizzard are being twats, just about every shitty dopamine high-jacking pseudoscience incentive is being used to compel people to pull their card in ways lootboxes weren't. The severe drought was brought on by Blizzard refactoring their monetization in response to F2P market changes and hostility towards lootboxes as gambling from a legal PoV, it was not NEEDED this is what they wanted and they put a profitable game on hiatus for years because it wasn't good enough for them. There is no benefit of the doubt to be given, the only upside is that I wouldn't have given them a dime for OW2 to begin with and never will, so I get to play OW 2 even though I haven't had a desire to begin with, new heroes be damned.

Locking heroes behind the BP spoils the entire thing. I preferred lootboxes. I earned them fast and then used in game currency to buy special skins. $30 upfront and not microtransaction panhandling bullshit
@@redrox8283 The lootbox system was absolutely horrid earlier on until they actually let us get coins via the role que system though, ontop of the fact that OW1 base skins are not that pleasing to look at outside of a few exceptions

I don't have time in my life to grind battle passes and I don't think it's fun. Overwatch 1 was a good game and I am happy I had a chance to experience it. I'm out, have fun everyone.

Not allowing everyone to practice a hero at the same time and the ability to unlock it with real money is pay to win. There is no other way to say it. Very unfortunate.

Honestly the cosmetic stuff seems really cool I do like the idea of 5v5 and I would like to have more core game mods the only thing is that this is Overwatch and only time can tell if this game is a true successor to OW1

it would be better if new heroes were available on the first level of the free battlepass - this really eliminates the issue of having to put extreme effort to unlock a new hero, because you simply have to launch the game

I don't like the the way Blizzard is locking characters behind a grind/pay wall. Overwatch is a game about counters and swapping. Overwatch Heros are very unique and don't have a significant overlap with each other. This will hurt the game and is a disgusting business decision by Blizzard.
This is what bums me out the absolute most. Having to buy / grind for a character defeats the whole purpose. It's a big hit to what makes the game amazing.
I hate it, too, but what do you expect when every other hero shooter does this and gets no push back?
@@flysoup3607 the other Hero shooters, Like apex, or Valorant are shooters with some abilities and great Hero overlap. Everybody can play with the same weapons, so the "Heros" are not that important.

I can't wait to see all this new content because now the devs have to play catch up big time when it comes to how long the drought. Kiriko looks to be quite an interesting support and can't wait to give her a try. I'm curious if they are going to add something new during the seasonal events this time around. I'm also looking forward to more updates on the PvE once this all finally comes out.

Agreed - except it still feels completely counterintuitive to the point of the game to have to buy heroes when it's all about real-time changes for counters, etc. That one hurts my heart a little but otherwise I'm on board. I guess Apex struck gold with that model and it was only a matter of time before others fell in line.
