      So if I was to say buy a 4 device package for a cruise but only need 2 devices can I gift a login of unlimited surf and stream to a crew member or are your devices registered and blocked from using another login?

    I was chuckling as you were describing your internet connectivity and the differences between how it works in the Caribbean and Alaska. I'm a satellite engineer, so I'll try to give you a simple explanation. At present, Royal's (and most cruise lines) utilize communications satellites that are in geosynchronous orbit (approximately 24K miles above the earth in a belt above the equator). When you are in the Caribbean, the angle from the ship to the equator is closer to 90 degrees or straight up and therefore more direct line of sight from the ship to the satellite. When you are in northern latitudes, the ships is still "in view" of the satellites, but you are looking up at them at a more shallow angle. This becomes problematic for you when you are in an inland waterway near glaciers where this angle may be obstructed due to the height of the glacier. You're basically looking for a signal that has to pass through a wall (the glacier) and that's why you have no signal. This is very over simplified, but I hope it helps you a little.

    It's zero if you work for Virgin Voyages. That was the one thing the crew kept commenting on when we asked how they liked working for VV on our Scarlet Lady cruise last month. Apparently the pay scale is higher than most cruise lines, but they said the free WiFi was number one their favorite perk. And it's good WiFi too, we had no problems streaming TikTok videos all day long and I added the $10 upcharge for the higher speeds to do two livestreams from the ship. The crew is also allowed to eat in all of the restaurants free of charge, just like the guests. And that applies to all crew according to those we talked to, not just the public facing crew members. There is no reason for cruise lines to charge their employees for WiFi. The guess are paying more than enough to keep the WiFi signals paid for. You all should have free WiFi to keep in touch with family and friends more easily.

    Is messed up the crew have to pay for internet, they already get hunger salaries and work every single day countless hours.. it should be free. No wonder they’re struggling to get crew

    • @aightm8

      I could be wrong. But I believe satellite broadband at sea is extremely expensive. 6/7 figures a year for a cruise ship. Since crew make up 50% of the people on board (and use 50% of the internet). I can see the rationale to it.
      What is messed up though. It should be free for crew when the ship is in port. Since the ship gets wired to the port at a way lower cost

    • @cesara136
      @cesara136 2 года назад

      @@aightm8 you are completely right but guests are been charged too money. How a dish or pot washer making $500 a month is going to be able to communicate with their families then? Wait while on port and get free wifi where available I think

    Hi Chris! This is my first ever RUclips comment 🥳! My absolutely fav place to grab a quick snack in Pike Place market is at Piroshky Pirosky. It’s an Eastern European bakery that sells all kinds of stuffed pastries. They have savory one and sweet ones, but my favs are beef and onion and cheddar and garlic. My go to sweet one is the chocolate cream hazelnut. They’ve been in the market (just to the left of the Original Starbucks. The line may look long but it moves fast, they are so efficient!!! It’s woman owned and community and culture focused, and there is something for everyone!li love your vlogs, thank you!!

    That gum hasn't been there for a long time. They actually pressure washed the gum off of the walls in 2015 and people had to start over again.
    As far as Pike Place, piroskhis from Piroshky Piroshky, croissants at Le Panier, anything at Athenian Seafood, chowder at Pike Place Chowder, anything from Beechers Handmade Cheese (grilled cheese is fantastic), all the drinks from Rachel's Ginger Beer. So many things to try in Pike Place. One of my favorite bars in the world, Alibi Room, is in Post Alley, across from the main part of the Gum Wall. Their pizzas are great.

    Thanks for the VLOG today. Regarding the immigration check. As a flight crew member we just had to complete a form, in the UK we were all on one from. As the Purser 99.9% of the time the crew bus would stop at a door on the ramp and I alone would take the one sheet of paper in and drop it off in a box. No immigration officers around. The was true at LHR, Gatwick and Manchester.
    However upon arrival in many countries, most often the UK and USA the Immigration and Border Patrol would be standing at the aircraft door as passengers were deplaning. In all cases they knew exactly who they were waiting for. When spotted they would motion for the person and walk away with them. Now, this would happen with crew. Sometimes they would be smuggling expensive ladiies shoes or watches and selling them at the destination city. So beware. Most likely they may ask the Captain for a crew manifest and then proceed directly to a specific crewmembers cabin for some reason. I do find it odd that the crew would be told in advance if they were looking to check one or ten persons. Be well. ⛔⚠

We were able to bring my wife’s mother with us, and we all had a fantastic experience. Somewhere there are waiters who have PTSD due to being attacked by my mother-in-law for mimosas! I actually will not cruise lines that charge their crew for wifi after learning about it.

    I've read somewhere that on Royal you have free whatsapp (only message) for crew, is it true?

    very nice video ..enjoyed bubble gum ...wow amazing. weather is unpredictable in alaska .your girlfriend doesn't mind you seeing other females guess she is very confident with your relationship. When i did cruise gigs I was divorced had no problems having guy friends in photos or showroom friends musicians met Joey D/peppermint twist before your time/my time and he bought me few drinks. Musicians onboard the ship are excellent by the way.

    Internet service and speed varies everywhere. I'm not sure why there are those that believe you should get free stuff. Internet is discounted like everything else right? My employers never gave me anything but a paycheck.

    I literally pay 7$ for my home wifi 😭 It’s 30Mbps. I know it’s slow for Americans but that’s more than enough for 3rd world countries.
