My wife and I travel almost exclusively on Royal Carribean. We’ve been on 8 cruises total, 7 with RC. Just want to say, the CREW does a fantastic job. I know you all work VERY hard and VERY long hours. You are the reason why we sail with RC.
I cannot believe how empty the I95 is. Even at night I have never seen it so quiet. I am loving your videos and cannot wait to return to ships. I really miss it. I think its amazing that you are making good out of a bad situation by doing youtube! Keep it up. I love it!
David Barnsley He’s home. When I said “it was fun to see the behind the scenes” of his creation process I literally meant it. Got to see how he edits and puts everything together in Adobe Premier... How RUclips Studio works, all that stuff. I know he already had this video in the works before leaving the ship, so once it got back to Alaska it was just a matter of doing all the editing. It’s nice to have him home for a bit!
James Tench well that is very good news I just watched another video saying a German cruise company has just started up again and it looked very possible So he may be back at work if he wants to I suppose maybe some time next year Bet mum was happy to see him 😍😍👍👍
Enjoyed the behind the scene tour; quite impressive to see those long passageways running the length of the ship. We now know how the crew moves quickly from one end to the other without skipping a beat. Thank you and continue the VLOG journey.👍🏼
Great tour! I’ve done the “behind the scenes excursion tour” on many cruise ships and we’ve visited the engine control rooms. For a technology nerd like me it was heaven! On very recent ships, the engine control room is fully computerized and even has a full video wall for all the sensors and whatever the engineers want to see on it.
That computer is called the “DCS” or distributes control system that can handle hundreds of thousands inputs and outputs. The display is called “HMI” or human machine interface and is designed by engineers. The screens are cascaded by priority even though you can access everything from a single screen. I’m sure every ship’s is custom with minor revisions to systems made over the years.
Me too Ashleigh. The whole operation of recycling and waste management is pretty impressive. Royal Caribbean has a program called Save the Waves which explains a lot more about their environmental efforts, if you’re interested: www.rclcorporate.com/environment/
@@RileyTench It's basically how garbage is managed in some European countries. Although I suspect that you guys on the ship where a bit more disciplined about it all... So cool to see all of this. Thank you so much! Seems like RC really cares about their crew members. We hope that we get the opportunity to sail with you again! And THANK YOU for keeping your videos clean/classy; so rare.

There's at least 1 person in most departments that stays as part of minimum Manning. From this video what I can see he's technical started staff. They were kept as part of warm minimum Manning on some ships. Same as broadcast
Really cool that they have spaces for entertainment for the crew, but when do they have time to enjoy it? As far as I understand, the cabin steward waiters and others work long hours by the time they get any time off; they prob have to do laundry, maybe walk outside on port days, and do errands.
So glad I had a chance to work on RCCL, HAL, NCL & Disney over the years. All those areas are so familiar like an old friend. Wish I'd have had you on NV or SC but I feel like I may never get to work on a ship, or even cruise as a guest, in the future again. Thanks for sharing with everyone else what we know so intimately.
once again Riley a great presentation tour of BEHIND THE SCENES. Love being able to view it. I am a Hotel General Manager so this was most interesting tour.. Thank you!
I love Royal Caribbean cruise 🎉🥰 my husband and I just went on our first cruise last week out of Galveston Texas it was amazing and the crew is amazing 💯 you guys do a lot thank you 😊 I'm happy Royal Caribbean takes care of you well🙏👍
Great video, thanks Riley. I've seen a zillion deck layout pictures on the interwebs but never the crew only decks. Do you think you could do a slow pan on some of those for us so we can see the detail?
I work shoreside for RC and it is fascinating to see how our colleagues do their jobs onboard. I can't wait to be dealing with normal issues instead of COVID issues all day.
Thanks again Riley, for the interesting tour. I had never really considered going on a cruise until I started watching your videos. And when things return to normal (which they will) probably will take a cruise on Royal Caribbean . And thanks to Royal Caribbean for letting you do these. He's a GREAT representative for your company. (just in case the boss is watching!)
Hi Riley, thank you for the tour. I've just stumbled onto this video. It's very interesting to see the areas that passengers don't usually get to see on a cruise ship. Just wondering though: are the ceilings quite low in the crew areas, or are you quite tall? It just looks like there isn't all that much headroom.
I’m about 6 feet tall, I would say the ceilings are definitely a bit lower then usual but not to the point you’re whacking your head on stuff. It can definitely get a bit cramped though!
The broadcast room! 🥺🥺 Rafael is still there! must get lonely for him without his techs. I was waiting for you to show a crew cabin but then remembered you're probs not allowed to do that. Also, had so much fun in that crew mess! 🥺 haha we had steamed buns every day :D great video Riley
Crew quarters, especially on the bigger ships, are relatively small but have everything you could possibly need. Depending on rank you may have a roommate (or 2). I worked for Royal for 6 years (11 ships) and I miss it every day.
I was on this ship for her take out and first season. She has ‘single share’ cabins for crew, which is great. You get a small 4x7 space to yourself. With a fold down bed-ad a shared bathroom with your neighbour. Small, but private. I loved it.
Glen Gamble the biggest cabin I ever had was on the Vision. Had a full closet and drawers PLUS shelves in another closet. It was a mansion by comparison to crew cabins on Oasis class. On Radiance I had a porthole. 9 contracts it took before I had natural light in my cabin. Awesome though.
Nothing special in crew rooms just a bunk bed with sinks and a small cabinet for clothes and toilet..its like a special prison room without windows🙂just describing my former cabin.we are all on the bottom of the ship last 2 decks under.
Thanks for this, but you’ve made my heart hurt, too! I truly miss Quantum, my favourite ship. We (my band Horizon) took her out of the shipyard in Germany and over to America, and then the Caribbean for her first operational season-shortly after that, she went to Asia. What a beautiful lady she is ❤️
Loved your video. I worked on the SS Norway in the mid '80s, and granted it was a long time ago, I'm still amazed at the difference in the crew areas. Our "I-95" was on B deck (Biscayne Deck) on the starboard side and was nicknamed Slime Alley. In your vid, when you knelt down to show I-95, my first reaction was, that would never happen on Slime Alley. It was nasty. Port side of B deck was all conehead cabins. The Norway was an old ship then as she was originally the SS France that was built in the early '60s. Times and ships have changed, but working on board a cruise ship is still an amazing experience. Smooth seas.

Thanks Riley for a great video! You are a great representative for RCCL and one of the reasons I can't wait to cruise again. How about some hometown videos? Be well.
The I95 looks perfectly clean and spooky like a hospital hall so Im getting the feeling that a walker is going to come out of nowhere and gnaw at your arm.
crew cabins-bunkbeds, curtains around it for privacy, shared drawers /refrig/bathroom and cabins below sea level, crew goes thru inside to areas ///you see doors /it goes down or up/stairs , we get free laundry/wash/dry all we have to do is provide soap, food/free, we buy our drinks at stores at ports, have our own cafeteria unless you are priv to eat at buffets/musicians can, 10-2pm est, also crew have their own computer rooms, bars etc. it's ok to be stuck onboard for 6 mos if you like the sea life.
If u want to see crew cabins..just imagine the size of a walk in closet or a bathroom with a bathtub that can fit 2 people in it with double bunk beds😄
@@kathleencraig3804 actually no. At least on RCL Musicians aren't allowed to eat in the windjammer. From the Entertainment department only guest entertainers, managers and some cast members such as lead vocalists. Other crew such as musicians if they want to eat in the windjammer, they can only do so during a certain time frame in the evening. They need to fill in a list and will get charged gratuity. In some ships musicians might get away with eating in the windjammer. But officially they aren't allowed.

I never been on cruise ships before I never heard cruise ships have interstate on it I95 lol you can get loss on cruise ships big time it's so big. Cruise ships are fun to be on
Fascinating! What a great vlog, thank you. The crew area was actually much nicer than I expected, so well done Royal Caribbean for looking after their amazing crew so well ❤️
Hey Riley, if you get bored, I bet a bunch of us would love to see what life is like in Alaska. I'd be Interested in seeing the town you live in, the school you went to, and if you ever get up to Fairbanks, a tour of the city. And it would be super-cool to see what like is like now in summer, and then in winter, but I sure hope you're back on a ship before then!
I did a behind the scene ship tour on NCL a while back, including the bridge , theater, galleys laundry and engineering. It's amazing how much of the ship is actually unseen by the guests
Thank you for this!! I have always wanted to take a tour of the behind the scenes on a cruise. I have done the tours where they take guests through the kitchens, but mostly for the bottomless mimosas. While watching you go through the different floors, I was reminded of a haunted house my husband and I went through years ago (maybe 2013) on the Oasis. I have no idea where we went but that was pretty cool. Hope you are doing well.
Thanks for your videos Riley, really good to see how your all coping with Covid19 on the Cruise Ships and I see that you finally got home. Great news for you and your family
Really enjoyed this tour. Crew members work so hard and it’s nice to see they have places to socialize and meet up with coworkers. Looking forward to your video about your travel home to AK.
Hey bro hope you are well and your weekend went well. Just thought we would pop over again and see what you have been up to lately. Wow that is so spooky seeing it all empty. Totally eerie and mad bro. Thanks so much for sharing this experience with us. Hope to cruise again soon. Stay safe and catch up again real soon God bless you bro 🙏👍👍❤️
I’ve always wanted to work on a cruise ship but I’m also terrified I wouldn’t like it and then what....lol. Options become limited. Can’t just not show up the next day lol
That was really cool!!! Thank you Riley for showing us. Next , do the crew cabins.... if you can get in them now that no one is there.. Yes!! I was super excited about ICE-CREAM!!!! I was just eating a bowl while watching your video
Y'all have been on the ship for quite a while, right? And no new people are coming on, right? So why the mask? Also, I'm hoping you can find a mask that fits better! Thank you for the tour.
wow love this video. I really missed I95, Crewmess, gym, bar, gaming, deck 7 especially the whole ship of quantum ots. 😍♥️ Hope I can go back again there!
I was wondering "You're still on the ship?!" Thankyou for doing this tour for us when you were probably busy with packing and organising your travel...at 5am in the morning!! You must have been sad to be leaving but you are always so positive...even at 5am in the morning ;-) I wonder if lockdown exists in your hometowns - here in Melbourne, Australia we went into our most severe stage 4 lockdown just days ago. We aren't allowed to move more than 5km from home etc (unless you're deemed an essential worker)
Hi Ben. I had heard things were getting bad in Melbourne again. Hope you are doing well and staying safe. Actually, I just recently made it back to Alaska. This Vlog was the last big filming project I did while on board. So many people had asked to see more of the crew areas, and I wanted to go ahead and get this posted. Now I’m working on a video about my journey home, and then we will see what’s next.

@@Mika-85 WOW good thing I never worked RCL...princess was lenient ..I was able to eat at buffet between 10am-2pm est and rest time at crew cafeteria buffet . I am a lead vocalist musician keyboardist but actually I can front bands /shows/casinos /showrooms ...eh working princess was ok
Hi Michael. I hope to be back on a ship soon too, but I am working on some plans for Alaska content. Stay tuned!
I did a behind the scene ship tour on NCL a while back, including the bridge , theater, galleys laundry and engineering. It's amazing how much of the ship is actually unseen by the guests
This was fascinating to see - thanks so much for sharing this with us - I've always wondered what does on behind the 'crew only' doors!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks... doing well, and Cass is too.
Thanks for the tour. I miss taking cruises.
You’re welcome Joe. Me too! 🙂
Always love the behind-the-scenes tours. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks much for the entertaining and informative crew tour Riley!
Very cool! Thoroughly enjoyed the tour!
Awesome, David... thank you!
Been waiting for any video. HaHa. Glad you're home stay safe. Looking forward to more video's.
Thanks Sharon. Hope you enjoyed it, and I do have more in the works.

Thanks David. More videos in the works. Stay safe and well.
Thanks for your videos Riley, really good to see how your all coping with Covid19 on the Cruise Ships and I see that you finally got home. Great news for you and your family
You have held it so together...thank you for sharing you day to day with us all
Very interesting, just subscribed and checked the bell. 👍🏻 Thank you 😊
Really enjoyed this tour.
This was awesome! Gives a totally new perspective to cruising. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Armand. Glad you enjoyed it!
That was really cool!!! Thank you Riley for showing us. Next , do the crew cabins.... if you can get in them now that no one is there.. Yes!! I was super excited about ICE-CREAM!!!! I was just eating a bowl while watching your video
Thanks DeDe. Glad you had your ice cream to enhance the overall video experience! 😂. I think I’ll go have a bowl too. 🍨
Loved it! Thank you! Keep 'em coming.
Wondered how your travels went. Hope to see where you are now - pretty soon.
Glad you enjoyed it... and yes, I’ve got more Vlogs in the works.
Great video, and glad to see you back! Please do one on what life is like back on land and your future while you await to sail again.
Thanks Chuck... Trying to figure land life out at the moment, but I do have some plans for new videos.
Y'all have been on the ship for quite a while, right? And no new people are coming on, right? So why the mask? Also, I'm hoping you can find a mask that fits better! Thank you for the tour.
Or twist the elastic ear loops like figure 8's.
Been waiting the whole of lockdown on this one, yaaaaaas !!
keep it up man, the video's are great!
Thanks. Glad I could finally get it made!
Well done Riley! Blessings to you and Cass!
Thanks Jeff.
Love your vid. Great insight into cruise life and yours .Stay safe 😊
Thanks Kirsty.
wow love this video. I really missed I95, Crewmess, gym, bar, gaming, deck 7 especially the whole ship of quantum ots. 😍♥️
Hope I can go back again there!
I know exactly how you feel... Hang in there. We will be back out there some day!
Great coverage. Seel like crew area alot in the front and mostly from 1-6 right
I was wondering "You're still on the ship?!" Thankyou for doing this tour for us when you were probably busy with packing and organising your travel...at 5am in the morning!!
@@RileyTench Keep on Vlogging - your posts were a spot of sunshine during this crazy year of 2020. Any topic will do - and yes, let's see about your trip home. But keep up Vlogging about life for you in general or even about important topics you wish to discuss or share - or even life in Alaska during 2020. Stay connected. Peace
Loved it but was disappointed you didn't show the crew bunks
VERY COOL!!! thank you!! I love to cruise
Who agrees once you watch one of his videos you are hooked
Amazing job giving us those detals of the ship. I work for the sales team for the UK and I had never seen all of those features the ship. Awesome informativo Riley. Thank You so much. You rock!!!
