He has beaten guys that are blown up Middleweights (Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos - he wasn’t convincing in these fights either, both went to a decision). Gane has 0 ground game, and Stipe is past it (with his last fight being 3-4 years ago and it ending with him being brutally KO’d). I now think a similar thing is afoot, with the UFC giving Jon Jones a fluff fight, and potentially telling Stipe just to eat the loss, to continue to drive PPV numbers using Jon Jones.

  • @jaysharp789
    @jaysharp789 2 месяца назад +31

    This was really bad. I mean let's call this for what it is. Jon Jones wanted no part of Francis Ngannou, he never would've moved up to heavyweight had Ngannou stayed in the UFC. The second he left the organization, Jones jumped at the opportunity to fight The one dimensional kickboxer Cyril Gane for the vacant paper heavyweight championship. And of course, Francis had just defeated Gane decisively. That fight should've never been for the championship, a fighter coming off a loss versus a fighter who had never fought at heavyweight before.
    That fight was nearly 2 years ago. Since then he has held the belt hostage, refusing to fight who is clearly the top, heavyweight in the world, and the interim champion, Tom Aspinall, a 6 foot five, lightning fast, one punch, knockout, artist, insanely well-rounded elite athlete. Instead, Jones has remained inactive, waiting for a 42 year-old Stipe Miocic to come out of a 4 year semi retirement. And sure enough Stipe looked every bit his age and every bit the rust of a four year layoff. He has no legs under him, he had no speed, he had no reflexes. He couldn't beat a top 20 heavyweight, never less fight for a UFC championship. And then in all his post fight interviews he's asked if he will finally flight Aspinall and he says no, he says he doesn't like the guy, or think that it's a big enough fight for his legacy. Instead, he will opt to fight Alex Pereira, who is a great fighter, but someone who would be moving up to his third weight class. No fighter in UFC history has ever won the championships in 3 Weight classes. And Jones even admits that it's the easier fight. I'm sorry, he should be stripped of his belt immediately, and Tom Aspinall should be recognized as the undisputed heavyweight

Now I'm considering it not as blatant ducking but more about negotiating trying to get a large payout but that can end up costing us the fight. Jones will forever be known as the goat, but also ducked Francis and Tom if the fight never happens. Dana needs to not offer any fight other than this one and give Jones what he wants. UFC makes enough money to get it done.

      Don’t pretend like it’s the same situation, because it isn’t. 31 and 37 are in the window of typical and healthy fighting ages, especially for heavyweight. Stipe was in his 40’s, retired for 4 years, hadn’t won a fight in nearly 5, and was coming off of a brutal KO loss.

      It means nothing because Stipe has not been active, hasn't won in 4 years, close to 5 years, and to make matters worse, he was ranked number 8th. This is not the same Stipe, someone who's closing in on 43. That matters a lot actually. There's a reason why Glover is no longer there, why certain other fighters aren't there pass 43. It's not even just the 5-year difference. Alex is the same age as Jones, in fact, I think he's older than Jones and he's fighting contenders in their early to mid 30's. Show me any fighter in the UFC that's a top 5 pass the age of 40-43. You won't be able to, and if they are, they're way pass the totem pole at this point. And if they are still amongst the top 5, they haven't been active in a while. At the least for 2 maybe 3 years.

      It’s so fun to see people that seen the match think Jones has a better chance against Aspinall now than before when it’s actually the opposite.
      Jones leaves himself open to be hit and his leaning back tendencies will get him knocked out against Aspinall. What you should ask yourself is this questions:
      If Aspinall had hit Jones as many times as Stipe did in the second round with the power Aspinall has along with crazy speed and accuracy, would Jones have been able to take all those shots and still be standing?
      If Stipe easily managed to get from bottom side control and recover full guard would Aspinall not be able to do it that has way better ground grappling than Stipe and probably be able to get up or reverse position?
      To sum it up, Aspinall his bigger, way faster, his boxing is on a completely different universe then Jones. He used to train with Tyson Fury when he was a teen to give a an example of the lvl his boxing is on. And what has Jones weaknesses always been? Good boxers like Gus, Rayes. Imagine that but much higher boxing level and with more speed and power. Jones only hope is to dominate on the ground. And he couldn’t even take down old man Stipe after the first round, that should tell you enough…

      The betting odds disagree with you. Jon Jones in the betting odds is an underdog against Tom Aspinall (+130 and a massive favourite against Alex Pereira (-600). Jones ducking Aspinall to fight Pereira would be such an uninteresting fight, it wouldn’t even be worth tuning it. It would just be a repeat of Jones vs Ciryl Gane with Jones submitting Pereira due to Pereira’s lack of wrestling and grappling skills. Jon Jones fighting someone who’s an actual favourite against them OBVIOUSLY is the much bigger fight to see someone actually give Jon Jones a challenge.

      He didn't land anything with any serious power. And we are talking about a few shots. Jon slowed stipe down with his offence very early on. Stipe looked good at the start. Remember stipe was never some explosive guy. Look at him at the start of the second cormier fight. He got battered. But he managed to finish cormier. Stipe looked fine, Jon just softened him up early because he's got a serious depth of experience. His style isn't about explosive quick knockouts. It can be tho. The important thing is he can keep an explosive style at bay and pick them apart. Tire them out
