    Yes, I admire all the pianists mentioned below, each good in his own way, but Kissin's interpretation is incomparable. He has the pure spirit of Schumannn's lyricism in his finger tips.He makes the piano figurations in the last movement bubble over in a way I have always wanted to hear them. The work is not tragic, but despite its varying moods one Of Schumamnn's happiest and most fulfilled compositions. A glorious interpretation.

    I really like Robert Schumann’s use of both PIANO & STRINGS almost equally in the same compositions. I think it adds a bit of flare to his work that a lot of other mid-romantic composers simply didn’t pull off in a lot of their work. Marvellous!

    Pianista exquisito.

    every truly great artist proclaims his credentials in the same way...rachmaninoff,horowitz,hoffmann,kissin,to name a few.i think the 'personal' approach is more exciting and breathes new life into well worn works...otherwise they might as well be played by a computer.

  • @neonRTowner
    @neonRTowner 11 лет назад +9

    Kissin has enormous technical skill. He has the most unfortunate habit of "pulsing up" what ever phrases within the piece he feels need affectation or attention. Often playing along gracefully, within a measure OR even a few notes, he'll ramp up the output of his grand piano, or provide exquisite extra fingering attention to phrases. This provides for an interpretation that says "I'm Evegeny Kissin" this is how I choose to play Schumann. The performance goes all over the place.

      Por eso cada gran interprete es diferente y cada uno nos muestra nuevas facetas de una misma obra. Si todos se ciñeran a un estílo o modo único de interpretar sería fatal. Que nos guste o no es asunto personal...

      Si quieres otros ejemplos, se me viene a la cabeza el primer minuto de: Handel Organ Concerto in F Major 2 mov, esuchalo, veras que se parece aunque sean periodos distintos.
      Casi los primeros segundos de: Schubert - Drei Klavierstücke, D 946
      Pasando los primeros segundos de: MISA BREVIS a 5 - Hernando Franco
      Son pasajes muy cortos, entre 8-12 seg. que presentan esa progresión

The most you can say is that those versions are the ones you like best. That is all. There will be millions of people who will not agree with you on this.

    I’m a huge fan of Kissin. I felt that he played this Concerto beautifully. But, for my taste, the first and second movements dragged too much. They were quite slow and I kept hoping the tempos would pick up, but they didn’t. The third movement was spot on and I only wish the first two were the same way.

    Kissin is a brilliant pianist and there is NO doubt about that simple fact. Yet there are performances he has given which are controversial to say the least. Take for example the Horowitz Rach 3 compared to the Kissin version. Horowitz hits perhaps a couple of dozen bum notes yet the OVERALL performance blows the Kissin interpretation " out of the water ". I realise of course that this is only my OPINION - but I suspect the vast majority would share the same opinion as me !
