Kansas City blues artist Samantha Fish performs one of SRV's earliest classics with a little help from Justin Murray at Dickie Doo BBQ on Dec. 8, 2011. Video by Randy Kirby.
Simply the greatest thing to happen in the blues world for years Samantha is so good she nails every song she plays even when she's not playing lead her voice is still owning the song simply outstanding!!
has it really been eight years since she did this performance? she is someone you genuinely cheer for her success. she's so talented, hard working and a truly decent person. sam, you are an angel from kansas city.
There's lots to get excited about here, a new blues talent keeping the blues torch lit and blazing. I love her enthusiasm and passion for the blues. Gotta love Justin Murray's licks too!
The Gaming Minion Love to see Samantha Fish and Jonny Lang do a show together and those soulfull voices singing together. WOW! Somebody please bring that on!
Larry Davis wrote this and recorded it in 1958... Mr Vaughan made it his own, but This young lady has the spirit. Watch and see... she's a keeper regardless of or IN SPITE of the nay sayers.
I hear you, vinegaroon1, I've been a fan since the first time I saw her play live three years ago. Samantha gets better & better and more relaxed each time I have the privilege to see her perform. Thanks for checking out my video.
I've listened to both Stevie Ray at Montrose and Samantha in this performance today and I just wish that I could hear a duet workup with the two on this cut. I believe it could be Awe inspiring.
Pretty good cover of Texas Flood. This was recorded 8 years ago?? Wow, I would like to hear her cover it now since she's got some experience and mileage on that Telecaster, it would bring down the house. 👍👍😎
Thank you very much randykirby1! It is a pleasure to hear this beauty! From far away (i'm from Argentina) They are excellent! There is hope!Blues is alive! A big hug! Gonzalo
She really gives you an understanding of how fucked up Texas is during floods ,whilst at the same time presenting a brilliant version of this oldie blues tune. How's she do it ?
These silly loudmouth drunks don't know what they're missing with that blabber and laughing. Things have changed as of 2019. I saw her last year and the audience was breathless while she played, then they went insane with applause and cheers when she finished one of her incredibly great tunes and went on to the next.
+ronnieguitar99 I understand that if you google "RUclips to MP3" there is a program you can download that will allow you to rip tunes off of RUclips. I don't know whether it's just the audio that you can pull off, I never tried it myself.
Don't forget Carolyn Wonderland, Dani Wilde, Joanna Conner, Sue Foley and Theresa Russel. There's others too that can't remember their names right now, and I'm just talking about the kick-ass guitar players.
She could be the next Hendrix. I'm not saying she plays 'just like' Hendrix. Her stage presence is powerful, overwhelming almost, and her remarkable talent is obvious. She could someday have a similar effect to that of Jimi, and I repeat she isn't 'like' him, but could be every bit as influential as he was.
HEEEY! let's not go Stevie Ray! He may have been high as a kite , but he brought talent to us that we NEVER saw before, and may never see again. I can forgive his choice of outlets if that is the only way he felt he could really cut loose, and produce the UNIMAGINABLE blues that will go down in HISTORY! I fell that if he would have gone straight he could still have done great things with his music, and mind. But just like Janis, Jimmy, and countless others their outlet was drugs to bring them out of the darkness, and into the light.
Stevie got clean several years before the plane crash that took him from us. Creativity and substance abuse are often found together, it's sad but kind of unavoidable.
sad that so many end up seeing the drugs as helping with creativity when in the end they destroy the creativity in one way or another. the drugs only fool people into thinking they help with creativity among many other things they seem to "improve". Janis and jimi died while others like page lived but their skills/creativity died.
If I were Bill Gates I could ask her to play my kids birthday party. People would be asking, say "isn't that.. " and I would say "no its just a cover band." they would say they are pretty good for a cover band.

Nice.
Early Sam vocal styling! And I believe that's Go-Go Ray on the drums.

So I gotta ask. What exactly does Sam do that a better vocalist, and picker couldn't do better with these back up members?
Shoulda left that one alone.
It's a damn good cover!! WTF were you listenin' to?!?
