@Nick Ballard 100% worth it as a winter improvement. We are now looking into cladding our van for next winter as we burn a lot of electricity overnight in cold weather
awesome and gaps i will fill by expansion insulation foam... thx for sharing , u are smart woman ;) I jsut bougt mobil house and lookin for indsolation under floor, and this looks weky cool and easy ..... Did u see any better conditions inside after instalation ?
@@TheMahoJos thank you so much, did you find they made much difference...? I don’t think I can do another winter in my caravan like this one... 🥶😂 .. I’m even considering putting in a log burner for next year....
@@lockodonis It definitely made a difference under foot but we also added some rugs in our main living space as it's all vinyl flooring. Skirting helped to keep the draughts out. Plus we've got 3x electric radiators (2x oil filled) and the gas fire. Overnight we keep 1x oil filled rad on in the bedroom donuts nice and cosy. We have woken up to ice on the inside of the main door and lounge windows though! But when the gas fire is on plus rads it gets up to a nice temp.
Hey thanks for watching our video! We noticed a big difference underfoot. We have vinyl flooring throughout and for extra heat insulation in winter we add thick rugs too. Every little bit helps. If you can get a static with double glazing that's also a big bonus - we got new windows added to ours and that was a game changer for last winter 😀
@@TheMahoJos the one we getting has double glazing and central heating won’t be living in it full time just yet but if it works out we will be within the next few years keep up the good work and thanks for the videos they really do help us newbie’s
@@williamthomas5223 Oh that sounds amazing!! Central heating is a winner. We've done 2x winters now and keep improving things all the time. At the end of the day its a thin-walled home but there are lots of ways to keep them warmer. Keep in touch with any more questions!
@buckerooney2247 Good question! I think from memory there are 5 gaps between joists underneath, plus we used about about 6 boards along each groove. So about 30? Easy to work out how many boards you need with some simple maths 🙌
A job well worth doing, I used some thin plywood screwed under the timbers and filled the cavity with rockwool type insulation. It was a nasty job as that stuff gets everywhere and itches like mad ( and yes I mean everywhere 🫣🤣) . I would have used the same as you, but it was what I had on hand . Just make sure you lag the pipe work well , this resent frost we've had has burst a couple of my pipes 😡 .
You do not want to cut insulation board with an electric saw. Stuff is nasty and goes everywhere. You get a hand saw without teeth to cut insulation board. The fire retardant chemical in the board is bad news in the lungs!
We noticed a difference with it being a bit warmer under foot. But it's not a complete game changer for keeping the place toasty. Glad we did it as every little helps!
great vid, so useful as i embark on same job at my van . thanks
Glad you found it useful!
Hi - great video - we are in mid wales and have just bought a static caravan, could you share where you sourced the offcuts? Thanks a lot….
Hi there thanks for watching the video! We got the boards from a place near Caerphilly: www.insulationsouthwales.com/
@@TheMahoJos that’s great thanks so much. Seems like job worth doing?

No worries at all! Hope it goes well 👍

Thanks for watching! We noticed a difference underfoot for sure!
And check out our newest video all about installing a diesel heater 🙌
Great video, need to do this myself and was wondering where you got the seconds from...?
Thanks for the great feedback! We got them from 'Insulation South Wales' in Caerphilly

@Nicolas Alfred Thanks for the tip!
Great job we are getting a static van soon think I will be doing the same dose it really make that much of a difference?

Great job
Thankyou!
How meny 8ft by 4ft sheets roughly used?
@frazercannom2097 Our van is 30ft by 10ft so each van will be different. What size is yours?
How many full size boards did it take to do.

@@TheMahoJosbrilliant thankyou. A lot more than I thought it would be. I'm just doing mine now.
@@buckerooney2247 Great! Hope it all goes well 🙏
Did you leave a gap for air or is the insulation pushed right up to the floor
@michelleholmes5533 No air gap, no need, it's up against the underside of the van chassis 🙌

That's a good solution!! Yes we've had really cold temperatures here and another cold snap on the way next weekend ❄️

100% agree. If I did it again I'd use an FP3 or similar. Glad you enjoyed the video thanks for watching 😁
