  • It was time to replace my dad's car and we wanted to buy an automatic and both me and my Dad's first preference was Tata Cars and we went to the Tata Showroom to book the Tata Punch or Tata Altroz automatic version but eventually ended booking the Maruti Baleno find out why and if you are buying an automatic car this feature is so important and many people forget about it.

@@sunilreddy5571 - The point you are making is not correct.
Automatic cars if have hill hold will automatically hold the car even if you pull your both legs up on a steep hill.
It has nothing to do having paddle shifters, or the speed or the RPMs. Its an extra feature which every automatic should have else it will go back if we don't have that.
In manual cars, the mechanism is already difficult and a person knows how to handle a car when on steep instead of people who drive automatics don't think much of the mechanisms because its way too easy compared to manual.
Thats what Ranjit also mentioned. It has nothing to do with automatics that when revved hard it cannot hold and all.

On top of it Tata's service is shit, and the engines and not even close to Suzuki or Volkswagen on Hyundai, But the thing is today everybody is concerned about safety as we all know our Indian roads are full of idiots and that's how Tata has made their mark.

Overall a car buying has a pull marketing applied that push marketing. Customers always walk into a showroom to buy the car, so the dealer principal should be help accountable for this and should also have benefits / reprimands linked to it.

I'm not saying this is the only reason but when i went to book a nexon for my friend this is the clear reason stated by that salesman. He feel bit under-motivated to have s smiling face all around.. Secondly YES tata do neglect the behaviour of their sales team a lot. If anyone had issue they just redirect the issue to that dealer only..
Coming to your point of having a Hill-hold control, TATA should have provided this. This new TATA ERA is soley based on SAFETY STANDARDS that they provide. And if they miss out this simple things it's really a neglected thing

@@antrixvarma Hill hold assist is very different from hill hold control.
What TATA had in older versions, to the best of my knowledge, is that when you leave the brake pedal, the car will hold for 2-3 seconds before you press the accelerator.
Hill hold control would be when you leave the brakes on an incline and the car stands still indefinitely.

The new baleno is filled with features like bmw style heads up display, 360 cameras no doubt but despite maruti's claims of toughened metal, can it match up to a Tata? The answer is no.
But I like the new direction maruti is taking with these cool features and finally offering 6 gear automatic gearbox

I just bought Altroz i turbo Dark Edition and sales the sales guy that was assigned to me was very lazy to say the least.
Luckily there was another guy who was very enthusiastic and i had a word with him once my sales guy went to talk to other customers.
Second sales guy was amazing and was actually very knowledgeable and had right infos on the car.
I am a Manual guy and i tested all three baleno-glanza and Altroz but the Build quality of TATA was not on the same charts as compare to Baleno or glanza.
The way Tata's Doors shut is amazing especially the interior quality was at par with Volkswagen and original toyota cars(not rebadged versions). Yes Altroz was a good chunk expensive as compared to glanza and baleno but I still felt the suspensions on Tata what is remarkable as compare to any other company except Volkswagen. since Polo is not available in manual now and is out of stock I had only one option now and I think I made a good choice.

Sir, on hills, during stop & start, can we put our left foot for a while on the brake pedal during the period of shifting the right foot to the accelerator, and then after increasing a bit of acceleration we can remove the left leg from brake pedal. Eventhough it is a cumbersome process, On steep hill heads rather than manual brake the main brakes can reliably hold the car from dragging back. It is just my idea, whether it is a good technique or not I don't know.

    • @hassanpkl

I too have tiago xz atm and am from Hyderabad. Very rarely these steep flyover trafic jam or near film nagar roads with steep slopes. Mostly it wont roll back as the creap function kicks in. If the steep is high, acceleration was not given the next sec, then you may feel this problem. I too use the same technique but it is not that complex or uneasy. Still hill hold and hill assist is good to have features and should be there in every kind of automatic variant cars.

Totally agree with you that it should be added to the base AMT version as well. Could the chip shortage be to blame for their disdain towards customers? As they have a lot of bookings and all cars have long waiting times?

Tata showroom guys are same everywhere. One of friend went to test drive the Tata Tiago AMT, the sales person did not hear properly and was explaining the pricing details which was of Tigor. Basically he did not hear properly and explained the pricing details of a different car. When my friend realised and asked, the sales guy was more keen on booking the car even before giving it for Test drive. He booked a Swift ZXi AMT instead :) This happened in Bangalore.

I have a tata tigor car myself, purchased, just a few months ago, purchased from Banjara Hills.
Yes, service in the showroom is horrible.
"I feel the main reason for this is lack of good pay and commission. If you don't already know, tata cars are built with solid steel instead of tin alloys of Maruti so the margins are too low." (There are the words of one of the sales person himself)
Hill assist is definitely a good feature to have but this problem is there even in my Maruti Swift car (manual) not just tata. Btw, Nexon has hill assist in one of the variants but it probably doesn't fit your budget.
The cars are actually really good value for money especially in terms of safety ratings and features. You already have used one, you must be knowing, the cars are really well built.
Tata cars are mostly non-noob friendly and are more suitable for little advanced drivers, while, Maruti definitely makes their car noob friendly. No offense guys. I have driven both Swift and Tigor.
