When I was in grade 7, this show was my life. It meant so much to me bc I could completely relate to Angela. The writers and actors brought the characters to life and made them so real, the pains and struggles of being a teenager are universal and this show hit the nail on the head.

It was cancelled because Clare Danes didn't want to do it any more.
@@charliepeebles No it wasn't. It was cancelled because it was up against Friends and the ratings were poor. Danes was having second thoughts about doing another season because of her school work, but that wasn't the reason the show was cancelled.
@@Syklonus Claire Danes was also tough to work with, and did drop out. She had no interest in doing a second season. Danes is notorious for abandoning and turning down roles. That plus poor ratings meant the show was cancelled. However, I think this was actually a good thing. Show's go on and oftentimes ruin themselves...plus in two years ABC would have been bought by Disney, and the show would have been forced to incorporate Disney into it somehow. Which would not have fit the theme of My so Called Life, and would have assuredly made the show less profound.
i loved that show so much and they left at such a unresolved ending..
Honestly it's so good. Even with just 19 episodes it's perfectly done. Just this brief moment in these characters lives. so poetic.
I just LOVE the Theme Song of MSCL (in all versions), specially the one that plays when Angela thinks about Jordan. ❤

I remember watching reruns of this show when I was in middle school (the mid-2000s) and thinking it was so good! It was such a real and honest show and the characters were so easy to relate to...why do good shows always get cancelled :/

I watched this when it first came out. I was a grungy teenage girl and there wasn't many of us as far as I knew, so I understand why it was cancelled. I loved it so much. It had the music I was into, an actress the made me cry most episodes, hip fashion friends, Jared Leto. Interesting story lines all beautifully done. Was so sad when it finished as there was nothing out there that represented me.
Can't believe it's been 20 years since that show first aired. I can only hope the next 20 years goes a lot more slowly.

Such an amazing show, I have watched the whole season several times. It's still so relatable even today & takes me back to when I was a teen watching it on MTV for the first time. I so wish they had had a second season or at least finished the last 3 episodes of the first. So many cliff hangers left up in the air... Did Angela end up with Jordan or Brian, did Graham have an unfair with Hallie Loenthal, did Angela & Rayanne ever mend their friendship, what happened to my fave character Ricky, did Sharon ever move on from Kyle... so many unanswered questions... The writing, the acting, the cast, it was definitely a one in a million show. No other teen drama has ever matched up with My So-called life & I doubt one ever will... a reunion show would be amazing! To see where all out favorite characters ended up would make my day, my year, maybe my life!

Aaaw I just started watching the show bcuz of jared leto n also to see a very young Claire. I just finished watching episode 8.. my god its so relatable when I used to be a teen.. u know how u feel abt cwrtain things or say stupid things n u just know in your head how stupid it just sounded.. that feel of talking w your crush etc
plus Jared was like 22 and looked like a baby! he's so cute yet super good looking
Now when I think of it I think I might been a Jordan Catalano for someone else in high school (Im a girl btw) but also an Angela later to someone else lol!!

The entire cast was superb. Fully bright eyed and they all pushed the story as a whole which captured that faded haze that kinda lingers well past your adolescence.
Even though I first saw her in Romeo and Juliet and then followed her career after that...I only saw MSCL 2 years ago and will forever see her as Angela despite all I saw her do before I discovered the show!

her character on my so called life started out being someone who id loved. but then she started crying too much.... but i like how, even though angela came from a practically perfect family, she and her parents still knew how to have common sense, especially for her friends with the real issues around them. :) claire danes is a greeeaat actress.

Claire is so amazing and seems to be a genuinely nice person. I don't know why she gets a lot of hate from Kate Winslet fans. Why put these two women against eachother? They're both amazing in their own way.

19 out of 22 episodes suggests it was cancelled irrespective of whether or not Claire wanted to continue. She would have been obligated to do the last 3 but they pulled the plug anyway 🥺

If I recall, the show was on its way to get canceled, anyway. It was doing horribly in the ratings. In fact, this inspired the first online petition to save a TV show, to no avail.

Because if the network doesn't support it, actual ratings don't matter, only the top line on the Neilsen spreadsheet. This and Stargate Universe are two prime examples.
Oh, man SGU was the best Stargate series. Hands down.

I actually preferred Atlantis and SG-1, but SGU really did start growing the beard in Season 2... Stupid Skiffs (Syfy). Given another couple seasons, my opinion might have changed to agreement, but they had to cancel it. At this point, MGM should sell Stargate to Disney so that it can get revived like Star Wars.
Because sometimes quality shows don't get the numbers they need to satisfy TV executives. Firefly is another classic example of a much loved and critically acclaimed series that gets cancelled. Stargate Universe was not as highly rated nor critically acclaimed as Firefly or "My so-called life". SGU had issues.
