In a sea of surf RUclips instructors, this is finally one who holistically knows what he's doing and has a MASTERY of all the techniques and philosophies. Good technique + form = speed and flow, less injuries and the ability to push harder at will; Good wave sense and philosophy is something few people look for but takes you to another level of surfing in and out of the water. I hope people understand the tremendous value you're creating and this channel grows.
A consistent forehand cutback is my only goal in surfing. Coolest looking move in my opinion. See this happen to a lot of surfers and it drives me crazy when I do it... go for the top turn and just flop onto my back. Never sure exactly what I am doing wrong when it happens. I am sure the cutback is an easy move once you get the hang of it, but it's definitely been a struggle to learn.
@@Scottdw80 Yes those are good maneuvers! Did you see my tutorial on how to do cutbacks? There is some good content and tips there to help you learn to do a cutback or a roundhouse. Check it out and keep trying!
I'll tell you, we all view surfing differently. I see a cutback as a type of carve - it's a specific carve (to me). Whereas a "slash" is different. That's where you lose your speed by pushing and holding. A carve is like driving through something whereas a slash is unleashing.
Thanks for your input. I like your view on a slash! I’d say a slash is in between a carve and a snap 😊 and a carve is in between a slash and cutback 😅 some turns have a bit of both and I think that’s why surfing is so unique 😊

Hey man. It is the Haydenshapes Holy Grail. A very good board when there is a pocket/ bowel to the wave 😊

Some might say you need to carve to do a fluid functional cutback.
@@erikhancock98569 That is a great point. There is definitely some carving involved in a good rail engaged cutback!
Carve , everything
Glad you like carves! I love them as they really showcase a persons ability to do powerful engaging rail turns in the pocket!
