That grease injector adapter is a thing of genius young man. Top tips, to advice and a top bit of kit invented with and for a purpose. Well done squire!
Class video Dan we got new seals and brakes on our 35 a few years ago our mechanic who has worked on MFs all his life made it look so simple that a brilliant tool for putting in the grease👍
Just started doing a seal replacement on my Massey Ferguson. Even though I only understood half of the conversation, I learned enough to help me finish doing the job. Well done and thanks.
Great job Dan, I need to do the half shaft seals on my Grey/ Gold FE35 as oil is leaking out and has got into the brakes, great info regarding this job and the greasing tool was brilliant Thank you
Using your video as a guide for our 135 1972 Made in England. Incredible machinery and Thank you sir for your videos!! Your garage looks more comfortable than ours in Canada Ha...
We always used to set end float so that half shafts just touch, if you turn one and the other one turns in the same direction then they are too tight, you then add shims so that when one turns the other one goes in reverse
Re greasing bearings, an alternative is to use the gadget originally intended for icing birthday and Christmas cakes using a plain narrow nozzle. I always found it quite successful. Not sure about the modern plastic ones, as I purloined my mother's 1950's metal gadget that withstood the pressure. (She did find out eventually, together with her old deep saucepan I used to heat pistons in, prior to fitting gudgeon pins).
Great video alot of detail i wonder if you have the part numbers for the seals and gaskets i have to do my dad's mf 35 cyl perkins both axle seals are leaking also would know the diameter of the lift cylinder piston the rings are wore and i want change that to, again thank you for the good video . Watching from New Brunswick Canada
Include to check the seal to the axle. Recently pulled one apart with seals that fit outside of seal yet it didn’t even touch the shaft. Rather important information. Think about it the gaskets are fine example.
Good video! Did you ever get round to filming a seal change on an older Fergie, got a continental TE20 so assuming its got the older style axle. Cheers.
You have to get in touch with someone who talks about tractor or mechanical repair , because your info is too 👌 to miss. I now know how to fix that thing
You can purchase that grease needle here in the USA I bought one over 45 years ago it's pointed so you can place it in the ball of a zerk fitting all so.Gill
@@CowfarmerDan I guess the outer seal was leaking oil that had passed through the bearing. Changing just the inner seal does hold the oil back though and is less of a job than trying to replace the outer one too. This video gives me confidence that I could replace the inner seal, refitting that shrink ring wouldn't be possible for me!
I have mentioned your Vintage Thursdays vids on Edd China's latest vid in the comments , as he has not released many vids recently. Hope you get some more views or follows from there
Another excellent piece of work. Your commentary is what makes it.
Very good video, encouraging us to do our own repairs. Thanks so much
One of your best videos Dan keep them coming I like the repair vids you do
You just have to love CowfarmerDans videos because he is very precise with his commentary.
Really good video. The two tools manufactured on the lathe are brilliant.

These workshop videos are great really enjoy them 😅

Just Clarence to get it🙄😁👍 I think you two need to do a collaboration vid!
Dan. You're so good at filming and explaining the technical then in layman's terms.

Great video as always Dan, the tool you made for greasing the bearing was genius, you should patent that and sell them.
Another great video, very interesting and informative and that is an excellent gadget to inject the grease
First class job Dan ,very clear and informative. I’ll be heading for my lathe very soon !
A really useful and detailed video thanks Dan.
If had that problem I would definitely tackle it after watching this 👍Dan
Brilliant, informative video Dan 👍
Good video. I’ve got one of them dial gauges but I haven’t got a tractor. Damn!
Another great interesting an informative video Dan👌
Love watching your videos some very interesting learning tips thank you for sharing your experience with us

Very helpful! Thank you for taking the time.
JUST PERFECT WORKMANSHIFT YOU PERFORM !!! THANKS.
Well done dan great very interesting and helpful, Keep up the good work bud.

Excellent and informative video Dan
I see brackets on the mudguards for a Clyde tilt cab
Very interesting video and good technology
Another awesome video! Cheers!
Good video.. Just thought I would mention those grease needles are available in Canada at most auto parts stores.
That's interesting, never seen one over here.
It was quicker to make than go and buy one though!
Enjoyed that vid dan 1st class job

Thank you for these vintage Massey vids. I need to do this to my mf50. Where do you source the parts, gaskets, seals, and brake linings and hardware?
I shop around.
I get most bits online, but some from traders at shows.
In the process of doing my seal . On inspection there is a grease nipple so the wheel bearing can be greased at any time?
What type of grease is used. Do you use any special type of grease on the bearings. Thanks.
Good video! Did you ever get round to filming a seal change on an older Fergie, got a continental TE20 so assuming its got the older style axle. Cheers.
I do have a continental engined tractor to do, haven't done it yet though.
Yes, it will be the older type axle.
You have to get in touch with someone who talks about tractor or mechanical repair , because your info is too 👌 to miss. I now know how to fix that thing
Did you do an apprenticeship in ag engineering dan🤔
No, just a self taught back yard bodger.
👍
You can’t set preload on bearings with gasket take gasket out put shims back in
I see what you mean, but workshop manual shows gasket and the chap I learnt from used them too.
do u know of a source for replacement axle studs or is it a trip to the breakers
I'm not sure if they're available or not.
Try Patrick Edwards tractor parts or Vintage Tractor parts
I see acron services vintage tractor parts has them on their website
Sure any bolt / nut supplier could source them for you
If use oil can nose screw that end on the grease gun will that work😀

You still need to change the outer seal. Even if the inner seal is bad, the oil can’t get by the outer seal if it’s doing it’s job!
Very true.
But just doing the inner is well within the capability of the average DIY mechanic without special tools.
@@CowfarmerDan By the way, there are three different thicknesses of those shims; .004”, .016” and .021”.
